A real way to validate if Bruce Lee’s one inch punch is real and not a parlor trick is if it can be taught. If there are students of Bruce Lee who learned the technique and can teach others then there is no question it is real. Even if those students can only do the punch at five inches instead of one if they can demonstrate this is the technique they learned then it lends unarguable credibility to Bruce Lee.

Oh Bruce's 1 inch punch is Very Real.....and he had a 3 inch punch also. I saw him demonstrate these live in 1964 Ed Parker's Karate World Championships. I watched Bruce do demos at the Long Beach arena--side mat--for hours over 3 days. He did hours of demostrations, and this was before he was known as a master and American actor. I believe he was discovered here and got the job as Kato in the "Green Hornet" T.V. series due to these demos. I was there and I saw it...it is all true...Bruce's fighting ability was *REAL!*

It’s crazy how back in the day people would get so impressed by “demonstrations” against completely static and non resisting opponents. Such demonstrations are actually pretty meaningless when it comes to real fighting ability. Even Lee himself had the line in enter the dragon that “board not hit back” meaning that such demonstrations are useless. Thank god we have mma and all kinds of full contact and grappling competitions to show what works now.

He probably learned how to control his body, especially his joints from Wing Chun. But his fighting style, especially his stance, is very different from Wing Chun. He still practiced Chi Sau after he left Wing Chun. But other than that, he seldom used any Wing Chun moves. His punches, stance, kicks, .. are totally different from the Wing Chun system.

@@TheSaint-g7t You should consider that Bruce Lee never considered himself great, rather it was other people that interacted with him and saw him in person the ones who say that he was one of the greatest martial artists to have ever live, and many of those people were professional fighters themselves. Joe Lewis was a heavyweight kickboxing and karate world champion, he knew Bruce and had met him several times, Lewis claims that he never felt someone punch as hard as Bruce could, that for being such a small guy he could punch as hard as any heavyweight, and that most of his power he got it from his insane speed.
@TheSaint-g7t
@TheSaint-g7t Жыл бұрын
@David Hernandez Thank you for your reply, I can assure you it all pure nonsense. Joe Lewis was a boxer before he did Karate, he got beaten badly by Jerry Quarry in a boxing match, obviously in full contact. Thereafter Lewis went into Karate which was more of " points fighting " one stop no real contact predicted points, referee stopping every second. All of the other Karate guys fought the same way " Points predicted scoring " this a crap way to even be called World Champion. Joe Lewis never got hit by Bruce Lee in any fight, it was purely demonstrations, in other words don't move, just stand still while I hit you as hard as I can, it's rehearsed and staged. In a REAL FIGHT, it doesn't go like that, the other fighter is hitting you back and moving. Bottom line all those Karate guys were just paper tigers, they wouldn't last two seconds against professional Heavyweight Boxers, especially against prime Muhammad Ali or a Mike Tyson, MMA guys would beat them too. Those Karate guys spoke nice about Bruce Lee because they became movie stars, Bruce Lee too. If it wasn't for the fictional staged rehearsed scripted kung-fu movies, you would have never of heard of any of them. Bruce Lee real fight record speaks for itself, wins ZERO ZERO ZERO, his only wins were in fictional kung-fu movies.

NOPE Bruce's one inch punch was not fake. I attended Dan Inosanto's seminar and he asked Bruce to demonstrate his one inch punch while Dan was bare chested. Dan said he was sick for three days!!!!!!!!! Also I have a copy of James De Miles' The One Inch Punch. In one paragraph, he warned that the One Inch Punch was a deadly punch and should never be used in sparring because if hit the person in his head, it could break the neck and he advised that when you apply the One Inch Punch use @ an angle where it doesn't do much damage and NEVER demonstrate it on someone with heart condition!

All that sounds ridiculous, honestly. The “too deadly to spar” excuse has been used for decades for people to avoid having to prove themselves and their techniques in actual fights. It is seldom true. The truth is the one inch punch was an impressive looking demonstration when done agains a completely non resisting opponent who stood relaxed in a parallel stance. But it’s basically the same as board breaking which, as is pretty common knowledge today, has little bearing on actual fighting ability. Even Bruce himself put the line in Enter the Dragon that “board not hit back.” Well, neither did the guys letting Bruce push them over with the one inch punch.

I’m sure if you just stood there and let someone punch you in the solar plexus it would hurt. Might even be sore for a couple days! Lol. That doesn’t make it some devastating technique. And, in fact, it was definitely more of a shove and not a snapping punch. It also was performed on completely non resisting opponents standing relaxed in a non stable stance. So yeah, that does make it a bit of a parlor trick in that it looks way more impressive than it would against live resistance and causes people to overestimate it’s effectiveness.

@Matthew 98 You don’t read so good, do you? Lol. I didn’t say it isn’t a big deal, I said it has nothing to do with martial arts skill. Steve Irwin could grab a cobra without being bitten and wasn’t a martial artist. It more has to do with understanding the snake and not being afraid of it. And all this, of course, is merely academic because that story about Bruce is clearly made up! It’s probably a bastardization of when Bruce grabbed the cobra in ETD. He really did that, which is kinda cool, but that was a defanged cobra with a professional animal handler on set telling him what to do. Not at all the same as what OP is saying happened, who admits that he doesn’t know its true.

1 inch punch is nothing but a push. A strong punching force always had the element of distance traveled and acceleration of the mass/fist. A 1 inch punch can never be stronger than a 12 / 24 inches or whatever punching distance possible for one's reach. So, it's bogus and ineffective.

The one inch punch is a wing Chun technique, Bruce learned from his master, and uses wing Chuns method for generating power thus doesn't need any distance to generate great power or do damage, the true version actually doesn't even require great power to do great damage when mastered. Needless to say it is the most complex technique in Martial arts, but actually any and every attack can be made through this same method of power, and it's not just about generating the power, but actually transferring that energy inside of the opponent to travel through the body and damage organs ECT. Also imagine the ability to move and shift your mass around without actual physical movement of the body, you don't see the outside moving but The insides are very active

The original one punch man! I saw a video where he did his one inch punch and the guy was forced into a chair and slid several feet. One person said it was a push more than a punch but if you push someone you have equal forces and you too would move in the opposite direction a little ways too, how much depends on the stance you have but Bruce lee was not heavily leaning foreword enough to counter act the force that would have been against him had it been a push. This counterforce effects punching too but if you work your muscles right throughout your body you can dampen that counter action which is why he was a master at what he did, he used his whole body in a way most people don't in the martial arts.

If you teach top tier boxer's how to do it they can pull it off and proof it's real. The 1 inch punch is to prove how refine your punches are not something made to use in combat.
@friktionrc
@friktionrc 3 жыл бұрын
100% agree but I dunno about not being used in combat...part of me thinks it can be used in combat...after all its not just abouy power but that 'snap' or 'acceleration' of applied power in a short distance/space...in combat especially street fights where folks are coming in properly close, I'm sure it will work...imagine a punch like this to the solar plexus 🤢🤢🤢lol....also I'm guessing the training involves understanding body kinematics and thay can be apllied across everything not just the one inch punch. Its like you said if people train to do it can then be applied as needed.
@Ming1975
@Ming1975 3 жыл бұрын
@@friktionrc Actually I meant the demonstration technique is not for combat. I can do 1 inch punch both ways which is arm bent to punch (basic) and arm straight to punch (advance). The practical of the training is to control power and not speed. To see actual boxers who can do this but don't know how to "show demo" look up George Foreman in his 50's his punches seems slow but but still KO young boxers. Also look up Vasili Lomachenko he punches at various speeds that can be real or fake till his opponent don't know what punch he throw is real anymore. This guy made me realize what people meant about the legendary technique called "shadowless fist" ( you can't see it coming because you can't tell if his fucking around or not). So lets not forget, Bruce Lee was also an amateur boxer too.

I can’t understand why anyone would question the validity of Bruce Lee’s one inch punch . He displayed this many times on and off screen. His philosophies and techniques are still taught and learned to this very day. Everyone around the world knows who Bruce Lee is, you can’t say the same for most of the people who make claims about him, most of them aren’t known in their own neighborhoods. So many like to try and discredit him, only to get some attention and maybe get their 15 minutes of fame. All they do is make themselves look and sound ridiculous. There’s far too many people who know and highly respect him to this day!! Thanks for sharing.

Once my co worker asked me if I know anything. My response, "Attack me and you'll find out." End of conversation from my co worker who rides a rice cooker (Kawasaki motorcycle) and used to play hardball baseball and is a nice Italian guy. Challenge Bruce Lee or anyone it will be a fight to the death. No rules, no ring from stopping you to back up, finger jabs to the eye, groin grabbing, blows to the back of the neck causing paralysis, knee joint kicking, anything goes. That why it means size doesn't matter if someone is possible to do lethal moves on you. Unfortunately if your black or asian and you beat the crap out of a white guy the cops will charge you even if it was life threatening but not if it's a white guy or 2 white guys against 1 Chinese guy resulting in the murder of the Chineses guy they won't be charged. That is one of the injustices in the good old USA (lol) recorded in books that happened around 1980-1990.

Mmmm not totally true. The mechanics involved in hip and weight displacement derived from falling step make the BL punch a bit more complex and powerful than WC which is hip fixed. That’s why he stated many times “You need to project your hip” “too many fixes posses on classical kung fu”. These two statements point the same issue about WC.

It requires a great deal of energy just to perform basics. Tie a rope chest high across your training area, one at hip height and one at knee height. Maybe 30 feet long. Punch and duck under the tallest rope. Move head from one side of rope to the other. Same with second rope except deeper squat. Lowest rope drop for push up on fists moving from one side then the other to full stand up. Even on days when I don't feel like it, I just perform slower. It is always a heavy work out.

I used to study tae kwon do in the 80s. My sensei was an old 67 year old man that fought in Korea a d after the war stayed and learned martial arts there for 10 years then moved to Japan for 13 years and learned some styles there. In 69 when Bruce did an exhibition in Hong Kong my teacher was there with a small handheld video camera. He recorded hours of footage for his home collection because he was interested in meet kun do and planned to open a school in America when he went back in 1978. When i met him he had already retired and let his top student run his school and he gave me and another kid personal lessons to try and curb my rebellious nature. My father asked him cause I was an angry kid and my father didn't want me on drugs so he figured some structure in my life that was almost military like was warranted. it worked it did give me focus I did calm down but there was days it would rain so no practice because we practiced in his back yard. He would take us kids inside his wife would make us lunch and he would break out his old films he made from many martial artsbtournaments or ceremonies. He had one from 69 with Bruce doing his punch. I was already a Bruce lee fan because my favorite weapon was nun chucks even before I started martial arts I was making my own out of high tensile rope and thick pvc pipe. Those things hummed from the hollow insides when you swung them. Even my teacher said they were good construction. He an quarter inch pvc. But yeah Bruce was my idol for years.
