Honi Honi In The Glass It Was Served In!

Trader Vic's Honi Honi was served in an interesting little ceramic mug adorned with cartoons. We are making another cocktail simply for the mug that it was originally served in. The Honi Honi had a few recipe revisions over the years, but we will be using the recipe that was most likely in place when this mug was created (1963).
To make the Honi Honi:

1 oz fresh lime juice
1/2 oz orange Curaçao
1/4 oz orgeat syrup
1/4 oz 1:1 simple syrup
2 oz Blended whiskey
Shake with ice. Garnish with fruit stick and Trader Vic's swizzle.

The Honi Honi was my first Trader Vic's drink that turned me on to Rum. Prior to that, all I knew was the typical Captain and Coke. The bartender made me try the Mai Tai after, and bam! The curse of the spiced rum and sugar water was lifted.

Agree with power_lunch. "Blended whiskey" would be Canadian whiskey, ala Crown Royal or the like, as opposed to bourbon, rye or scotch. Lime is notorious for not playing well with whiskey, which is why lemon is usually the go-to citrus with whiskey cocktails. Would the drink show an improvement by subbing out the lime for lemon? I'm not sure I'm curious enough to try it myself.

Try angling the glass a little when you whack it in place. I had that problem until I angled the glass to be roughly a straight line with the tin on one side.

But research is necessary to make sure the improvement is not just theoretical. (Took shots of both books' recipes for this, tagged you on them on IG.)

@@BreezewayCocktailHour There used to be two Trader Vics in Japan. The other was in Fukuoka Japan but its closed now. If you go to the one in Tokyo you can still order the ''Hakata Sling'' ( a signature drink from the Fukuoka location ) Its not on the menu but they will make it for you, and it comes with a ceramic drink topper. Very cool!
