I believe that a historical resource like this will have so much more longevity than just a simple video game. But even if we decide to look at this project from the lens of a video game or an interactive experience, this excruciating level of detail will only serve to future proof the project. And as an aside, I can only imagine how fabulous this would look if adapted to VR.

This could be a great asset in the meta verse. In the not so distant future, people can pay a fee to have a virtual tour and experience of this very authentically recreated iconic ship. Friends and couples could choose to have a date on the virtual Titanic. Imagine even more immersice experiences for enthusiasts where they can role play a Titanic voyage. Imagine 3000+ people roleplaying individual roles virtually over the metaverse. That's the future.

Yep. Thomas Andrews included. And it's understandable as a consequence, why James Cameron dedicated the amount of time and detail in the 1997 movie as he did. You know, that includes building a 14/15th model of the ship (biggest movie set ever built at the time) and recreating the Grand Staircase (10% larger) and letting all the original cutlery and carpentry etc. remade, including by the same company who made them in 1912. Titanic truly is a piece of art, and thus, in both the movie and this video game it deserves that.

As a big gamer AND Titanic enthusiast this project is kind of like a dream, a realization of a childhood dream even, for me. I so appreciate the level of detail and I think you're absolutely right that this isn't really a video game. It's an interactive, digital museum experience. No one is ever going to be able to recreate the Titanic to this level of detail in real life so I think this is the best way to do it.

I still feel so sad for all the hard work Harland and Wolff did and man power to build that ship and 8 lives lost to get in to the water. The people who designed the eloquent doorways and those two DOMES above the staircase well it had to be so sad and deeply hurt when they lost that ship so fast. I know one designer saw the paper and the title was Titantic sunk.well the designers son said he just cried and cried. So taking the time to make the ship perfect is the right thing to do. I can not wait to see the whole ship and i bet I cry too.

@@martinb6461: It sounds like the main project of the team is the digital recreation of Titanic. The videogame is just a side project so that large numbers of people will get to explore the ship. @@martinb6461 you might be correct. It seems that each time a new version of Unreal engine is released the whole project is restarted. I think it's wonderful the dedication to building the ship exactly as it was down to the most minute details. The wreck isn't going to be here forever and when it finally disintegrates then all of Titanic that will remain are the artifacts and other forms of media keeping her legacy alive. This project is basically making it to where the ship itself exactly as she was will always be here in some way. And I agree with some other comments here saying mod support for the game once it releases would be fantastic for creating longevity of the project in addition to all other aspects. Fan mods remaking Adventure out of Time would be great, or maybe even a world sailing mod where you can take Titanic to different ports around the world and essentially give her the life and career she never got to have.

Perhaps the greatest complement to all the work is that these WIP shots are dead ringers for scenes from the H&W photos back in the day and the replica that was being built in China in the present. What I would absolutely love to see eventually is the ability to not only explore this great ship, but also drive it on the seas as it was originally intended, taking and making voyages. Taking on a variety of roles, whether that's being a fireman, or the captain. Or, having the ability to 'switch' into any role you see fit at a given moment. That, whilst I think more and more is beyond the scope of this project, would be truly the stuff of dreams.

The part I don't quite get is that we will never see the double bottom as part of the experience. So while I'm fully behind your mission of creating the most accurate and true to life version of the ship to explore, I question why time is being put into sealed areas that are physically impossible to access.

Because this model will be a historical document too. If you're doing everything as accurate as possible, it's only a small step to include that. If people were ever wanting to see how a double bottom was constructed, you can demonstrate that with this model. Not only that, but the general shapes actually help with getting everything in place. I can imagine that in the virtual experience they might remove the parts you are not able to see.

Probably because they are trying to recreate the ship digitaly, titanic was drawn with a ruler and pen not on a computer like QM2 and newer ships who have a digital build. You could import the blueprints of QM2 and other cruise ships into a videogame engine and make a game out of it (theoretically) but not with Titanic. So priority no.1 for them is to have a fully rebuilt model of Titanic from original blueprint to digital and then (maybe) import it into a game and create a story around it.

As someone whow as fascinated with the History of Titanic since she was 11 yrs old, I have no problem waiting more years to explore so a passionate recreation! Please don't let impatient people discourage you or the team. these projects are so worthwhile. It's exploration/design/art for exploration/design/art's sake. So yeah, I definitely see why it's so important to the team to do THG the way you are. It's a case like the Guédelon Castle project in France; the Medeival castle that has been in the process of being built faithfully with medieval French material sourcing/gathering & construction techniques, since 1997. It was an experiment to re-discover forgotten engineering techniques via fragmented historical information. As of 2023, they project that it will be finished in 2030. That doesn't stop tourists flocking to see the progress in action, though! People who "get it" will always know why you need the time! (Fortunately enough, discoveries made on the Guédelon Castle project have been really useful in restoring the Notre Dame cathedral after the 2019 fire.) I think your THG project could have wonderful implications for the future of video games and digital re-creation!

Imagine someone made a first-person platformer game centered around completing a certain goal by climbing the Arrol Gantry while Titanic is being built. Obstacles include weak scaffold floors, catch boys, riveters, large gaps, heavy steel plates, searing hot rivets, the big hydraulic riveter, all the dangers of Belfast 1911.

@@user-is7xs1mr9y I was thinking this. I thought 401 was a demo of THG... But it seems that 401 is separate and THG has just started being made. Which if true would mean its 5 maybe 10 years away. As it's taken 5 years for 401 🤔 I'm happy to wait, but it shocked me seeing the state of THG

@@UHDGamers-re2xj considering that 401 has 50% of the ship complete, we could get another one with 75% completion later on?

I'm a game developer and Titanic enthusiast just like you guys I 100% agree that the historical side of the project should be the first priority.

With all that work going into the hull, might be a little moneymaker for you guys to consider selling plans for the ship somewhere down the line. There was a guy who used to offer CAD drawings but he seems to have pulled the plug on his operation. Might make a fun companion piece to the deck plans already available, anyhoo

Given this level of effort modeling the hull, you could do some incredible stress analysis simulations. This would be by far the most accurate virtual model for the iceberg damage, breakup, and how pieces of the ship ended up in the places they did.

Will buy it and will experience it! I love stuff being recreated in 3d to the atomic level

In all honesty, this makes sense. The practical uses for these models past your guys' hands, for study and setting a precedent, will do more than what a video game recreating Titanic's sinking would do.

It would be cool If you guys made a mode where you can explore the wreck in 1912-1986-2022. Anyway this is the best Titanic game ever made. And yes Titanic VR is cool but this is beautiful😍 good luck on the project and wish you all the best. Thanks for keeping Titanic “alive” for the next generations🙂

Wow! Got into digital recreations of the Titanic through the Left4Dead mod, it’s incredible how far a dedicated crew can go to simulate the iconic ship!

I hope this work will solely be displayed in an X-ray mode with 3D viewing for enthusiasts, because if our PCs have to render every single detail in order to play it in first person, oh boy, it's gonna be less than 1 FPS lol
