In rehab they told us to listen to this song and imagine we were singing it to our past selves. Healing our inner child and all that! It was actually really helpful for me. Man the early 2000s were such a great time. You could feel the world changing with the internet, but social media hadn't yet taken over. Music that requires actual talent was still prevalent on the radio and on everyone's home made CD mixes. Movies and games were breaking so many boundaries and were still original, opening up so many people's eyes and minds to the possibilities ahead. The future didn't seem so daunting as it does now. Maybe it is the ignorance of my youth in my high school days, but those were the times I miss the most.

The Reason is such an iconic song. It's one of those songs songwriters wish they have written. It's that magic moment that doesn't happen very often. The song's message is about redeeming yourself and trying to be a better person. It's very relatable and sincere. As an artist, if you're sincere about your work, people will resonate with it. I mean the song has a pretty simple melody along with simple lyrics. It’s a good song, but I wouldn’t go out and say it’s something artists wish they wrote. You have to remember this was like Hoobastank’s one hit wonder. They didn’t change the face of the music industry. Look at a band like Nirvana and what they were capable of doing in less than a decade. Kurt’s songwriting had really dark and raw meanings to it. Sure the melodies were simple too, but it was so different that it completely destroyed 80s glam metal and ushered in the new genre of grunge. Coldplay is another band that was very popular during the time of Hoobastank and they too have written a lot of “magic moment” songs that have influenced a lot of bands, especially on their first 3 albums. I just feel like you really like this song a lot and are making some bold assumptions toward a band that hasn’t had a history of being iconic except for 1 song.

Gonna be my Daddy-Daughter dance song when my oldest daughter gets married some day. She was just a few days old, sleeping on my chest, and this song came on. The magnitude of what it meant to finally become a dad hit me like a freight train as I listened to this. I realized how critical my choices in loving and raising her would shape the person she would one day become.... and I realized that I would happily die for this tiny little one sleeping on me. I knew from that moment this song would always be a special representative of my relationship with her.

I can't believe I am back here again. Last time I rediscovered it here 3 years ago. I was 36 then and now I am about to turn 40yrs old in next 3months...... There's magic in this song. The tune, the notes, the singing, the lyrics, even the visuals (original TV version's video)... can't forget the first time when I saw it's video on MTV. while listening to my childhood and teenage playlist, I get so nostalgic and emotional that it scares me so I just stop playing it and divert myself in another activity or thoughts. It scares me because I feel that I will cry so intensely that I will drown and die in my own tears. The grief is about not able to turn back time and live those days again. It's also about how I can't explain in words to the current generation what it was like back in those days.

This may be lost within the realm of comments... but I’ve recently been doing doing a lot of soul searching ever since I broke up with my ex 3 years ago, and this song just played in my head out of nowhere.
