Two of the best options out there that would both lower your intake temp (especially at idle) dramatically, increase air flow and eliminate the issue of water leaking through hood vents are: 1. Use the stock air box, or even better to swap out the lower box to a hellcat one that has a functional inlet hole, and get the mopar air duct along with a radiator shield that fits right on to the lower box inlet hole, so it would breath fresh and draw more air from the fender grills. I think there are two types of mopar’s fender grill air ducts/tubes, where one would fit both the Non SRT and SRT front bumpers, whereas the other would only fit the 19+ SRT with 2 front snorkels/eyes on the grills. 2. Get an AFE GT momentum kit, the box also has a same inlet that would fit the mopar fender grill air duct tube. The open box design is good while the car is moving = performance, but you might have noticed that your intake temp would rocket up like crazy (2 times or even 2.5 times higher than ambient) at idle. The main reason why that is the case is because most of the heat generated by the radiator goes right through the open designed air box to the air filter when the car is not moving(some are exceptions if everywhere else is enclosed but the top). If say you got a hellcat lower box without also getting a mopar air duct, a good amount of heat would still go through that inlet hole to your filter. I see yours is like a half enclosed open box design, that’s even worse IMO. The AFE GT momentum box has a cap that you can put onto the inlet hole if you dont wanna use the mopar air duct. I have a mopar cai kit, and i have since noticed a tremendous difference in idle intake temps between mopar and stock boxes. I then blocked the rectangular inlet hole on the mopar box by riveting a piece of rubber, and the idle temp dropped a lot comparing to before, but still wouldn’t be as good as an entirely closed box design since there’s still some area not sealed (the top lid where the weather stripping seal ends). Getting a closed box would only benefit by eliminating the water issue and increasing air flow along with the mopar fender air duct. lmk what you thoughts are :)

Thanks for the shout out bro. Water control is one main reasons I like my specific brand of Viper hood - the vents have a catch-basin under them that funnels water to the front of the hood where it drains down in front of the radiator. So very little water gets into the engine bay. Looking forward to the meet this weekend - wear your long johns - gonna be brisk out there!

I didn't realize the Hellcat hoods were like this until I put it on last month. I bought those plastic covers first that mount under the vents, but they dont seal it shut. So, I sold my cai that is open on top and bought one by a company called Injen. It is closed on top with a see through port on top, it has the hellcat intake for the headlight, amd the tube that goes to the throttle body is a smooth piece. I like it so far.

@@RTLife on paper, you lose more hp in the close box intakes, and gain torque. But after getting it tuned, it was proven closed box intakes are better. It doesn't pull the hot air from the engine and runs cooler longer, meaning the fan doesn't kick in until later. I could physically feel the difference from the open faced one to the closed box. It broke all 4 tires loose on my Durango RT with just that change. For what it costs, it was definitely worth it!

@@jerendebardelaben1817 All cars come from factory with enclosed air intake systems for a reason. Open element air filters are more a sales gimmick like extended warranties. Hot air intakes increase IATs and profit for knockoff (aftermarket) air filter companies. Real racecars have open elements that they tune for specific day and specific weather and millions are put into the cars. Hot air intakes on open hood dynos show false hp numbers unless you are driving around with no hood or your hood up somehow

I also like the ones that are on the Steve Saleen SMS 570 Challengers, and always thought that they were really cool as well. Even though they are based on the RTs, it would still look cool on my srt8 and most people wouldn't know what they are anyway. Was gonna be one of my mods on my 16 RT before traded it off for on my Scat... I was concerned with this may be some of the issues with the after market hoods, with the money that they want for these you would think they would do a better job but again doesn’t surprise me!
@orlandoflores723 жыл бұрын
That was my question about this hoods, I want to eventually get one either the same you have our the classic hellcat hood, but I always ended thinking, where all the water go!!

They didnt add channels under the vents to draw most of the water away from the intake??🤔 seems like not alot of thought went into it, although if ypu have the cloth filter it SHOULD be fine with anything less than a direct stream of water flowing into it, as it wicks most of the water, and the oil on the filter is meant to keep it beading off. Also, personal experience, do NOT use vinyl wrap under the hood, use the heat resistant 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ whats it called..dynamat? Used it to seal my uncles '65 mustang hood, or fashion a tray lol
@RTLife5 жыл бұрын
No there are channels & for the most part they do a solid job of collecting the water. Some does get into the engine bay though.
@mrhyde07055 жыл бұрын
@@RTLife oh yeah its fine if some gets in, ive actually hosed my entire ebgine bay down multiple times, nothing will get damaged by rain. The filters are pretty strong too, my k&n with 96k miles on it, still suppresses most of the water, washed it today under a high flow of water and not much was making it to the other side. And the oil is water resistant. Chased the water that i missed right out of the filter.

Water is not going to hurt your washable air filter or your engine so why worry about it
@RTLife5 жыл бұрын
True but if it's really pouring out & i'm on the HWY water could get through
@glockmodder5 жыл бұрын
@@RTLife if you are moving it won't get in and it's like a small steam clean for your engine if the filter is slightly wet I would be more worried about water getting in the electronics but I am no expert I do have a water proof cover on my Tahoe but the filter is open air in front of the tire and it could get a big splash in a deep puddle and that would be bad peace of mind spend the money and get the cover
