yes, definitely. The hatchery area may be a bit crowded but there are several areas north and south of the hatchery that you can find shore spots with less crowds, and the fish fish close to shore in these areas as well. Just north of town are some beach spots, and south of the boat launch is another, smaller hatchery (Indian) that anglers fish.

certainly more room to spread out and anchor. So I would say yes it is.

absolutely, they will go after flies with aggression. We see guys out in pontoon boats at Hoodsport all the time.

you can use just about any rig you're comfortable with. I would recommend going with a smaller size hook, say from 1 to 4 on corkie set ups to avoid snagging as there are a ton of fish swimming around. Also, remember, barbless hooks required.

The fish are pretty marginal by the time they are staging outside the hatchery. I've seldom seen one I would want to keep.

dudes, right now Nov. 3-2013 is the time to fish for chum&some silvers in the canal! we have been hitting them all week in addition getting our limits of Dungeness crab. The commercial&indian fishermen pulled up 350,000lb. of chum salmon in 1 day last week. The state est. about 1.5 million chum returning into the Hood Canal this year. Fish-On!!!!

been a few years, not sure. I believe just a budget level shimano and 9 1/2 foot rod.

Why is everyone fishing just that small section between the boats and the fishermen?

It's a terminal fishery, the fish are working their way toward the creek that goes to the hatchery.
