6:02 One explanation is that she lost both of her parents so her grandma was assigned as her legal guardian, but because Granny's bakery is the most renowned bakery in the land, her grandma set her up to be the main store runner in town while Granny does all of the actual baking in her house up in the mountains, so she was kind of forced into a middle management/distribution position and Red feels too ashamed of herself to just up and leave since she's the one who took her in after her parent's passing, and is just wishing for an out without looking ungrateful to her. As to why the book was with Red and not Granny, we'll say that Granny used to live and do the baking at the town store but then retired to her house in the mountains when Red turned 18 and could be the legal shopkeeper, and just left the book there since she already knew all the recipes and had no need for it. The movie's implying that nobody can make the recipies without their recipe books, but we can say that its more like stealing trade secrets and undercutting them thats driving them out of business.

This is such a Nostalgic Classic that it’s the Prime Example of don’t judge a book by its cover in Animated Form, the Casting is Great, the Animation is Bizarrely Appealing, the Twists are Fantastic, and it has such Imagination and Creativity with this Fairy Tale Parody unlike the abomination of a Sequel.

Hoodwinked is such an underrated classic. It took inspiration from Shrek, but managed to go in a different enough direction to get an identity of its own. Still, I kinda wanna see the director’s cut with Red’s original voice by Tara Strong.

Is a director's cut even possible? This isn't a live-action movie. Do any of the people who worked on this movie even have the assets?

Hoodwinked is probably the only successful low budget animation movie I know of. I mean compared to other films like it it's unironically a high enough quality as to not be enjoyed unironically (like Pinocchio: A True Story).
@DoctorInk206 ай бұрын
I saw _Hoodwinked_ as an in-flight movie the first time on an aeroplane in Summer 2006, age 11. Honestly, I liked it. Years later, I've re-watched it a few times and now I think it's brilliant, though undeniably flawed. Like you've said here, the animation truly lets it down, but even that has its strong moments, particularly during the snappier comedy, e.g. the Wolf and Twitchy segment. It's not in _Foodfight_ territory, though I'd prefer to call it "unpolished" rather than strictly "bad". On a plus side, a lot of the character designs work for me in many aspects - more so the animal characters than the humans. Kirk's model is the worst, though I like him conceptually as this jolly, chunky German man. The script and the voice performances are great, I find myself laughing at it consistently when I revisit it (The Schnitzel Song in particular, which no doubt says something about my sense of humour 😂), and I truly enjoy the atmosphere of the sets and the lighting. With what little the production team had, they made a big effort to do their best. An admirable feat for an independent studio. I think it's also important to look at the animation landscape at the time: Around the 2000s, unless you were one of the major studios - Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, or even Blue Sky - 3D animation was an expensive new technology that wasn't as widespread nor user-friendly. It demanded a lot more technical knowhow compared to hand-drawn animation of the past, and robust software with sufficient hardware to run it was especially inhibitive at the time. I see the flaws, but it's still a gem to me. Good to hear it talked about. Nice job. 👍

Apparently Cory Edwards, the director and screenwriter for this movie, also did the screenwriting for “Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp.” Which, despite its crappy visuals and mediocre dialogue, felt a lot more enjoyable to me compared to the first film which like the former that I mentioned was a live action/CGI hybrid film. Something like those live-action Garfield movies or Alvin and the Chipmunks. Mainly I did not like the first Woody Woodpecker film at all while the sequel felt more like a guilty pleasurable experience in comparison.
