@@Z23go Does the regulator do filtering just like the filter by itself would do? Or does the regulator only do regulating and no filtering?

@bluenetmarketing It only does regulating, no filtering. If you have a hose with a regulator on the tank end or a high pressure hose you don't need a filter. Here is a video that helps explain that... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKCkm6GDqraZh9Esi=I4ew9cvrKl3V9ez1

There is no need to bleed the line. Push the button down and give it three (3) rapid clicks and it will light every time. Each time it clicks, a small, metered amount of gas is released and three (3) clicks allows enough gas to build up so it will ignite successfully. Once it lights, do hold the button down for a few seconds to allow the thermocouple to get hot so the gas will not shut off. This is a safety device that prevents gas from spewing out if there is a failure to ignite or the heater loses flame. I am surprised you got it to ignite with one (1) click. Most people will give one (1) click and wait which is why they are experiencing ignition problems. Not enough gas has built up. Hope this helps.
@Z23go3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip Daniel. Do you use the (3) rapid clicks on 20 lb tanks with a hose or just the 1 lb tanks?
@newapologist2 жыл бұрын
You definitely need more than that with a hose to a 20 lb tank. I think he’s talking a 1 lb. Tank
@danielbaker98472 жыл бұрын
@L Parker It is a 20 lb tank. If it is a tank I have just installed, it takes 4 rapid clicks at the most. The key words are rapid clicks. I just survived this massive winter using only this heater so I offer that as proof.

Thank you so much, this solved the "do I need a filter or regulator or both?" question for me. Thanks for clearing that up because it was pretty confusing, but what happens if you are "over regulated" i.e. if I put the hose regulator into the 1lb (the end with the refulator) end rather then the quick release side? Im not going to do this but I could have....;)

Ty very much. The least thing you think the company could do is overhaul their entire process of picking and choosing the right hose for whatever application you’re using it for. It is a cluster ..ck to say the least! If you’re wondering why they do it, I guarantee you it’s to mix you up in your head so much that you buy every single accessory that they sell. It’s absolutely complete and total BS that they can’t make the process much easier and simpler for people. On top of all that when you ask any of the associates working at the stores who sell these things they also have no clue? In this video, you hook up a hose with a regulator built-in to it, but I’ve read in many many other places that if you do this, it will absolutely be counterproductive because the Mr. Big Buddy already has a regulator built into it? I just purchased one yesterday at my local tractor supply, but I’m currently getting ready to take it right back to the store and get my money back just because of the headache that your videos are trying to explain. Ridiculous!!!

What if you put a 1lb bottle on the other side and light the heater while the 20lb is bleeding?
@Z23go2 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank, I haven't tried that. I'm guessing the pilot would light but may be blown out by the 20lb tanks air bleeding. Interesting idea.
@KingdomUploaderАй бұрын
I haven't heard you say a word about hose lengths. Isn't it true that only the 10 foot long hose is designed to not leech oil? The 10' version is unaffected by the tank's high pressure? And with the 10', we will have to screw the heater end to one of the two 1lb tank connectors - and those are regulated? Are you saying that the big buddy quick connect fitting is NOT regulated? and that is why you used a hose with a tank-side regulator? and since you did NOT use a filter - that's saying your hose regulator lowers the pressure down to a point where it will not adversely affect the hose and cause it to leach oil? Even reading info on the mr heater site is confusing, sheesh

So if I use bottles (1 lb) or "screw in" hoses, I would need both sides to have a fuel supply to use on high, but the quick connect adapter operates both elements?

I have "screw in" hoses for my single buddy, but I may upgrade cuz Menards is running a hell of a deal on Big Buddy right now.
@bobdillon7832 Жыл бұрын
Nope, you can use just the one but it only lasts for like 2 hours on high. I used just one on high and it lasted about that time. No idea if the 1/lb was completely full or not though. High is 18,000 BTUs. Pretty hot for just a 1 pounder.

The hose will not click when I try to connect it to the Mr Buddy
@Z23go3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peg, Are you pulling back on the outside of the hose coupler (the gold piece) while pushing it on? It's a little tricky cause you have to pull back on it with your thumb and pointer finger while pushing it on to the peg on the heater. The spring is pretty tight on a new hose where you have to pull back pretty hard. Other thing would be to make sure you don't turn the propane tank on until it is hooked up, where if the tank is already turned on it will have pressure in the hose and will make it harder to push on. Hope this clears it up. Thanks

Why is it a big deal to keep the 20lb tank inside of the garage, worskshop...? Mr. heater has a propane cabinet heater (MH18CH) that puts out same amount of BTUs and has a 20lb tank mounter right inside the heater itself.
@Z23go3 жыл бұрын
Good question. I think with the Big Buddy the main thing is safety. Where if there was a leak at the tank and the heater was pointed at the tank there could be the chance of it igniting and exploding. Also, even if the heater is not on but the tank is leaking there is the chance all the gas could leak out and asphyxiate someone. With the tank outside if there is a leak the wind would blow away the gas and it is not near any ignition sources (heater flames or electric motors running). So why does Mr. Heater seem to contradict their own safety warnings. I’m not sure. I did look at the manual of the MH18CH cabinet heater and they are advertising it as a construction zone heater, which an unfinished building would not be fully sealed off and would have more ventilation. They say never to use the cabinet heater in an occupied dwelling, which would be more sealed off. Also, with the propane tank being inside the cabinet maybe it is considered more protected. That’s a guess. Really good question. Hope that helps. Since they are two different models designed for different scenarios Mr. Heater may have adjusted the safety instructions for each.
@RenoLaringo2 жыл бұрын
See my comment. Totally agree.
@m00dy711 ай бұрын
Read the specs on the MH18CH, its not meant for indoors like the Buddy is. Also, even for the buddy, the company says the 20 lbs tank needs to be outside. Only with the 1lbs tank can it all be inside. Inside as in a living area, home etc.
