Helens chase scene has to be one of the most intense cat and mouse sequences in horror movie history next to Scream 2 with Gale. The outcome is so heartbreaking, yet poetic because its the reason we remember it. She went fighting.

This movie will always have a special place in my heart. I was a kid throughout the 90's in a rural fishing town. I was around tons of shrimp boats, a town square with the historic buildings and the long back alleys. This film got a lot of things right with the setting. As someone said in the comments, we did NOT lock our doors to anything during that time period except maybe at night right before we went to bed, and some people in my hometown still don't today. I love the direction of the film, as well as the cinematography and John Debney's score is my favorite horror score with the exception of Halloween. I enjoyed the chemistry between the four main actors and didn't ever feel like a single character was just a "throwaway" character for death scenes. The script could have been polished just a tad more, but this movie did give us Sarah Michelle Gellar's iconic chase scene which is arguably the best in slasher history. The sequel is a fun watch but it is more of a straight up cliché horror slasher with a higher body count, booming music, and a crap ton of strobe lights. It also throws Julie's entire characterization out the window and sets up a pretty contrived storyline.

It is quite rare or unique that the sympathetic character with the most development within a slasher film is not the final girl as it was SMG aka Helen. Her chasing scene is iconic and one of the best chasing scenes next to gale in S2 and Jessica Alba in Texas Chainsaw Massacre and probably Laure Strode from the rob zombies Halloween Remake. Hope future slashers focus more on intense, creepy chasing scenes instead of jump and kill sequences. That’s real horror.

It’s funny to me people insist she had all this “development”. We knew nothing of Helen. Maybe not much more for Julie, but Helen was NOT developed. She liked being in the pageant and wanted to move to NY. that’s literally all her character is about lol. I also wouldn’t call her the “most sympathetic” either. I think yall get caught up in the emotion of her chase and overflow everything else lol One of the BEST chases in final girl history? Yes. Her the better character over Julie? I can’t see it. We are meant to resonate with Julie because she was the only one against doing what they did, Helen was perfectly fine complying. Eh, either way Julie is the final girl and she proved her worth for the doubters in I Still Know. So it’s fine lol.
@CoasterTrax5 ай бұрын
@@MBG.426 we knew more about her than about Julie. Therefore, she is the most beloved character in this franchise. You can deny it and argue against it like crazy, but it doesn't change the fact that Julie couldn't inspire the majority. It's not that I don't like Julie, but Helen is the better and more likeable character. Her scene IS iconic. She got also the best scenes overall. The home Invasion scene, the chase, the home coming queen scene when Ray died. All in all, she is the better character and her acting performance also made us relate to her. She conveyed the emotions better than Julie.

Great reaction as always 💜. I live in Wilmington/South Port NC where this was filmed. They also just filmed the latest Scream and Halloween movie as well.

You should watch Urban Legend! :D It's right up your alley I love how you call people by their previous characters, real names and other assorted nonsense - "Cruel Intentions", "Sonic", "Ryan", "Fred" hahahaha

I've only been watching your channel for a few days and you've already become my favorite reaction channel on KZbin. I love the juxtaposition of your witty commentary alongside all the blood and carnage lol. If you're interested 'When a Stranger Calls', 'Black Christmas', 'Hush', 'Misery', and of course the Hitchcock classic 'Psycho' would all make really good reaction material. There's also a more obscure movie - 'Wait Until Dark' starring Audrey Hepburn as a blind woman, that has what many think is the greatest jump scare of all time.

With it being a coastal town that profits off the selling of fish it’s not too surprising there’s a lot of people in slickers unlike other horror films. This film is is such a guilty pleasure. But I just loving your references and throwing in your own survival instinct needs. This is just so good. I love horror! Let me adopt someone else’s issues and anxieties for an hour and half. I know I said Night of the Living Dead (90s) for the beauty of Tony Todd and Barbara. But now I’d love to see the sequel (however that third direct to DVD film is trash). Girl I love this spooky train! I’m SHOCKED you do not have a Patreon or promote one. You’re a classic!!
