On a slightly different note, I am part of Loose Ends Project. When someone dies or becomes disabled with an unfinished project, they find a volunteer to finish the project for the family. They do all kinds of crafts, so knitting, crochet, quilting, needle work....

My grandma was partway through a blanket for her youngest grandbaby when she passed. Someone in her knitting group finished it for us and I tell you I sobbbbed when I opened that package. I was told I was receiving yarn and some WIPS (with the hope of finishing some grandma sweaters) so it was a huge shock.

I recently cleaned out my yarn stash and donated a lot of new and leftover skeins of yarn and accessories to a nearby nursing home in my county for their residents to use. They were so appreciative to receive the yarn because their residents don’t have the ability or funds to get out and shop. Most are elderly and have the skills to crochet but not access to supplies. My mom loved to crochet and it helped her to be productive during her time in a nursing home. She crocheted numerous scarves and hand warmers and gave them as Christmas gifts to other residents and staff. She loved being able to give a handmade gift to those around her during the holidays. ❤

I want to thank you for creating this video. I have crafty friends who love to make all matter of crafts, but say they don't feel like they can justify continuing to produce items that nobody wants. Their family has all the blankets, scarves and stuffed animals that they could possibly use. I suggested we give items to charity, but they didn't know where to start because thrift stores aren't the answer. The list you supply is very helpful!

I have a charity I haven't seen mentioned. It is Project Chemo Crochet. They accept 100% acrylic 9 x 9 granny squares to make blankets for chemo patients young and old. You make the squares any pattern/style, as long as they are the size required and the founder has a team of joiners who put the blankets together. I also recommend small things that can fit in shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. Thanks for the list Tiffany. I participated in the shawl project last year with Warm Up America. It was so much fun. Also there are places in your own communities who, if you reach out, would be happy with your creations. If not, they could point you in the right direction. ❤

Thank you for this information. I am a cancer survivor and have donated several different items during my treatment, and now that I am no longer on treatments. I might have missed slippers, but one of the most asked for items that I have taken are slippers made similar to socks. I try and make slippers and hats to match. These items go very fast, and they are always grateful when I take them. The nice soft acrylic yarn is important as many that are taking treatments have very sensitive skin. Thank you again for all of this information. I have also donated to homeless centers that have food and showers, so the soap bags go very fast there and are so appreciated. ❤

I LOVE this! Thank you so much for posting all of these. My (newly formed) business I formed in honor of my Grandmother (Nikki), who for as long as long as I can remember, has crocheted cute animals that “lived” around her home waiting for new homes and/or even better…someone to learn how to make their own. I learned how to make (1st) blankets, and later amigurumi and my youngest daughter also learned how to crochet from my grandmother during a time when she badly needed a distraction from some tense health issues her dad (my ex-husband) was just beginning to deal with, knowing it wasn’t going to improve. Crochet has helped my Grandmother brighten many lives and in turn I’m making it my business to keep her legacy going by donating some crochet projects and money made with my projects, as well as raising awareness for a few conditions and illnesses that have affected our family. ❤ thank you for what YOU are doing & I intend to add at least one of the charities mentioned here to our list! ~ Christine F. O’Hagan 😊

In my community the foster care system runs a center where they can provide items to children who have been delivered to new homes with no personal belongings. They welcome things like blankets and clothing and accessories and stuffed animals to help these kids have something of their very own and take some of the burden off the foster parents. I’ve donated baby and kid blankets and hat, scarf and mitten sets several times. I’ll be checking out some of the links you provided to see where else I can donate. Thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure if the humane shelter is giving crocheted blankets to the dogs. I know someone who works with a state humane shelter and the donated crochet items are not used as crochet blankets are hazards for the dogs. Their nails get caught, some dogs chew them and the yarn comes apart...I've been told employees just take them home.

I was so amazed at your tutorial on the beanie crochet hats etc.to the point I continued to watch more of your videos. The yarn measurements I greatly appreciated though I wish there was a way to figure out how much yarn I would need before using one skein and measuring off of that so when I go to purchase yarn I would know how much to get. instead of having to go back to the store again. But what impressed me the most and thank you so much is the charities you suggested. I have been wanting to donate my time and projects to charities but was not sure how to go about it until now. I am now an empty nester as my children are grown and I now have grandchildren which I can only crochet so much for them and go along as they grow. With so much yarn left over and have run out of projects to do. Thank you again for such a fantastic video. Many of the charities you suggested hits close to home. I am so excited to get started!

Thanks for this great info! Now I can add a few more places to donate different items. Stash busters! Plus, making a variety of things is just the ticket for someone like me who doesn’t like to do the same project over and over. Switch it up and keep donating 😁

Thank you for putting this out. I'm retired and feeling like I need a purpose and this is going to help me share what I know how to do. I am currently making scarves for Handmade Especially for You. I've also made soap sacks for Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes. They are in need of everything.
