This video gave me the idea for a possible future topic you could cover: some of the times you were wrong regarding competitive pokemon. Be it tiering, viability rankings or something else. Because it is really easy to point fingers at someone when they are wrong or discussing in bad faith etc, but to really understand something, you have to make mistakes, recognize them and learn from the experience. Which is something many people should do to have real meaningful discussions

A topic I'd like to see explored more is the inherent boost to usefulness for the Mega Charizard Forms, purely due to the unknown of which form it is. For example opponent has Charizard out, if it's Y then I can go Latias. But if it's X and it D Claws then I'm in trouble. Likewise if I go Hippowdon and it's Y then I'm screwed. Yes sometimes it's obvious i.e. if they have a Venusaur, it's Y. But the CTC "Which Zard Is It?" team was the classic where you could choose either Zard form, they both worked - it's only a single turn of guessing but can decide a game.

to be fair this is a thing with tons of pokemon. something like iron valiant can and does run physical and special sets that have very different answers. even just different coverage moves can have a similar impact. variance in not knowing what set your opponent has is far from limited to megazard

In theory yes, but in practice you could figure it out from preview 9/10 times. You could still be fooled by the set they ran as well though. Flare blitz zard y to kill chansey, defensive zard x which I think bkc helped come up with, etc.

Zard-Y structures are generally pretty cookie cutter tbh. Like even Reiku’s team it’s extremely obvious that Metagross is not Mega and is most likely some kind of Pursuit trap variant for Lati twins, cause there’s not really ever much of a reason to run regular Metagross except for Pursuit, and Zard-X doesn’t need that support to perform well.

if hoopa was unbanned it would force people to run faster teams in general because, unlike M-Zard Y, crawdaunt, excadrill in sand, kyurem-b, specs keldeo and the other 6 or so wallbreakers there aren't actually checks or effective pivoting in order to counter it but you need to guess correctly if choice or find a way to switch into a faster mon by still taking quite some damage if not choice Remember that choice band hyperspace fury does 40% to clefable, almost 50% to scarf ttar and about 55-60% to any wall that doesn't resist dark. Worth to mention that if you play brainless you do those damage to resisted hyperspace fury, but hoopa has enough coverage to just one shot the best "checks" it has and you have to guess what set it is running in the first place. Maybe it wasn't best pokemon you could build around, but surely it's unfair how you couldn't run slower mons than 284 or else it would be momentum for a free hit Back then I had fun to play ladder with hoopa, but it was a pain to play tournaments

Hoopa’s defensive frailty is further compounded by the fact that it has no resistances other than an immunity to Psychic. If it had a better defensive typing, it’s defensive stats as is might have been just good enough for a (decently) fast wall-breaker.

My dude, as someone who used MegaRupt in ORAS NU, that mon just came on way too easily on so many cores to wreak far more havoc than it should be allowed to. Even the bulkier RestTalk variants' increased longevity more than made up for the loss in power and coverage.

Hoopa-U is now UU in Gen 9 Then you realise Lokix is a physical attacking priority move user which can literally OHKO Hoopa. Even if it teras into fairy or steel type, Tinted Lens banded first impression OHKOs no def investment Hoopa-U

balancing Pokemon around Pursuit, a trapping move, is one of the biggest issues with oldgen tiering, so having one of your main arguments for Hoopa-U be "just pursuit trap it bro" and "just out offense it bro" do not appeal to me whatsoever

I would agree if those weren't metagame standards to begin with, and if there weren't pokemon dealt with similarly who are actually tougher to handle in this regard (nidoking is faster, has sr resist, sand/toxic/tspikes immunity, way better phys bulk)
