Hoover Tempo Widepath Whole House Cleaning

If you're looking for a cheap, great carpet cleaning machine, look no further. Yes, it has faults, but the overall performance is so good, it makes vacuums at 10 times its price shudder in fear. Sometimes simple, inexpensive machines do have the edge.

I have an old Kirby heritage II upright that is missing a bag, belts, a new brush roll. and also attachments. It also has a noisy worn brush roll while the machine is operating. It still cleans my carpet real good

I have one of these style WindTunnels (called a Limited) and it's a great little vac. Got it for $5 at a flea market and just needed a new belt.

@VacLab the older windtunnels with the fixed plastic hose and 12amp motors had alot of suction even for the bagless versions

This is awesome vacuum for its price and more! My Vax Impact is almost similar "case", same price range also. Biggest difference is, that it only has 700 watt (6-7 amp) "EU limit" motor. It's also bagless so 76 cfm from the hose end isn't all that bad. Brushroll in it is very much like in the Tempo. I have been surprised how much grit it picks-up after my other clean air vacuums. I am so tempted to get the Tempo (yes they still sell it), but I would need a expensive voltage converter.

I think that this may be the best budget upright around. From the second you started the machine it was immediately evident that Hoover has some sort of experience in building upright vacuums cleaners with brushrolls.I think that if someone needs moderately priced machines to fully answer all of their vacuuming needs then this Hoover Tempo and a Eureka Mighty Mite canister for floors and attachment cleaning would clean a house from corner to corner as well as almost any machines in almost any price range.

Amazon actually just raised the price of these again. They're now $85. I keep saying I want to get one but I looked on camelcamelcamel and they were only $43.95 BRAND NEW from Amazon in May 2017! Only four months ago! And they've doubled in price since then! It might be a great vacuum and it might be a *relatively* cheap price but I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on it when less than half a year ago it was under $45 and Amazon has only been jacking up the price since then.

There's a funny thing about how Hoover labels their belts. The 190s are about 3/4 the size of the 160s, but they'll both work. However, after 2 years of matted carpet and strong belts, it burned the bearings out in our Windtunnel Bagless' brushroll because it would literally seal itself to the carpet. That also made 160's last MAYBE 2 months and 190s about 3 and a half before they started slipping pretty badly. On the bag check indicator, the Royal CleenSeeker has it and the electronic dirt sensor as well. Basically it's a 2003 Windtunnel Supreme but without the see through bag door. You can still get a used Supreme tohugh for about $50 on ebay, but it may need some work. The only thing I couldn't figure out on our Windtunnel Bagless was how on earth to get the motor out. On my Panasonic, it's pretty easy, to get to to blow out all the carbon dust and whatever else made its way through the bag, but on this... not so much. One thing I'll always remember is having to explain how the vacuum flew UP the stairs when I accidentally got the hose stuck to the carpet.

I love that these were the last of the better Hoovers (apart from the Self Propelled Windtunnel, that's still in production today). I would take this or an older Windtunnel over anything Hoover makes today.

Since the Tempo is based on the older Windtunnels you can use the hose and tools from the old windtunnels just fine.

I’m a little surprised that vacuum was manufactured in Mexico instead of China…at least the Mexican models, I’m guessing, must or were a little more reliable than their Chinese companions…

Fantastic Steven sometimes she vacuums on Wednesdays, but it's not really her favorite thing to do. She prefers painting and cooking, which is just fine with me. :)
