Are you for real? Tell me this was just a show and that you were not that smart to put the belts on and just take them off then to replace the water pump. Chances are the old water pump is fine - it’s the seal / o ring between the water pump and the cylinder head. We had an exact 1987 Volvo 740 Turbo and we (son and I) did everything on it. Original clutch till 180K miles and both our kid learnt to drive on it. Still wish the rust had not claimed it. Ziebart had blocked up all the drain bolts in the frame rails. Loved that ‘Silver Bullet’.

Been there, done that...front struts/rear shocks/replacement (salvage) head on the B230FT/water pump/belts/probably a few others...all about 10 years ago now. Turned a '90 745T with a bad head ($600) for about $200 and sold it for $1400...225K miles or so. 740/760 with the 'ol B23/B230F is amazingly great to work on, just takes a bit of practice. When you're done, don't forget to replace that turbo inlet hose from the airbox...the duct tape is leaking and costing you valuable boost. 😉

Good video. I do most of my own work but I have to accept that I'm slow. If I put a price on the time rather than considering it therapy I'd not be saving money.

Does anyone know how to view “car issues”. I’m outside of the States.

I always say, anybody can do basic maintenance on a car. I was wrong, you sir, cannot. Best regards. Thanks for the laughs

El Pepito I’ve tried to do it as well. I’m equally as useless, maybe more than hoovie. Since I work at a dealership in sales, I’d rather (much rather) just pay the professionals in the shop.

Great video, really liked seeing you compare the costs, etc, to paying a mechanic really useful to see that and of course the experience which is part of what the hourly rate you pay is for.

@hooviesgarage here's a quick tip for getting oil out of your clothes. Use 1/2 the amount of detergent you'd normally use, and add 4-5 drops of Dawn liquid dish soap. Your clothes will come out like new again. Dawn can also be used for spot treatment and food stains. 👍

This is probably the most enjoyable and funniest video I've seen from hoovies garage oddly though my best part was when he was talking about angry RTD2 that was hilarious

This is why you make a list of all the things you need to do to a car, go through and examine each thing on the car, and then decide what needs to be done first. The water pump should have gone first so that the reinstall of the belts covered the install if the new belts.

You’re not alone, Hoovie. I do most basic maintenance on my motorcycle, but not my car. I just don’t enjoy wrenching that much, plus I don’t usually have the time and tools needed.
