Great video Gash. I hop grower in Ontario posted last fall they were cloning hops. I was planning on do that this spring with a few of the new shoots when mine come up. I use my hops, although for bittering its a gamble, but mine have turned out great. Cheers!

thanks for the vid- when i was cutting back my own plant growing on a veranda in central tokyo, I didnt intend to propagate the plant but for some reason i cut off about 4 inches and stuck it in a pot, curious to see how long it survived, and it is now thriving. Repeated several times to give plants to friends.

Cheers Tony, I think being outside helped a lot with the lighting, in the garage everything looks a weird hue from the light reflecting off the driveway, and yep the phone has a better camera then my cam does by a mile! Cheers mate

Top stuff! Nothing like home grown freshness! What happens in the picking and storing process before boiling or dry hoping in the FV? Do you just cut them up and store in glad bags? Thanks Gash!
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 7 жыл бұрын
You just pick them when they are ready and you can dry them on fly screens or in a dehydrator, or use them immediately. Once dried yep just vacuum pack and freeze or fridge! Cheers!

Nice video Gash, I'm new to brewing, like when I say new I mean I just bottled my first brew, I used 1 can of Thomas Cooper Brew A IPA, 1kg of beer belly light dry malt and 5 days on I dry hopped with 100 grams of galaxy, I love hoppy beers and love my coopers session, does Bunnings still sell hop plants? Would buy a s**t load as I have a pretty sizeable back yard. Cheers for the great content mate and cheers 👍

They do, but often hard to find, go and talk to some one in the nursery that has some pull or does the ordering and ask, other wise I'm not sure I can send stuff like that across the border, but there are places you can buy the rhizomes, even check ebay, though be careful, check reviews etc

Great Video mate, i've got cascade and Chinook on the go at the moment, first time so looking forward to the result. They've started properly climbing now, the growth is crazy! Bit worried about the excess trub of whole hops but reckon its worth a go.

They grow like mad when happy, easy 6 inches a day sometimes! They soak up a lot of wort, good to put them in a big grain bag so you can pull em out and squeeze it at the end if you feel the need. Cheers mate!

Gash, you da man! i always thought i had to be in Tassie to grow these, but am just about to go to Bunnings and try my luck. here in Newy, we get pretty cold winters (i think your on the CC yeah?) love the vids mate. keep up the good work. cheers
@HomeBrewNetwork

I live in melbourne now mate, but I think you should give it a go to grow one in newcastle, you'd get at least one year out of it, if the winter is cold enough you might get more. I dont think you'll find them in bunnings now though they have all died off now, maybe in spring. Cheers mate! I might dig mine up soon and see if I can divide it. Cheers mate!

I have never seen hops in Bunnings what type of weather do they like
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 5 жыл бұрын
I guess moderate temps, they grow best in the southern states of Australia, they like a cold winter as they go dormant. Cheers!

Most awesome - video quality excellent. I always learn something from your channel. It is rhizome time here in the US, I thought about starting some hops but decided I was not prepared this year...maybe next year. Do you think it might be successful planting and producing hops in a greenhouse/hothouse? I wonder if you might simulate 2 seasons' growth in 1 year in a hothouse? And as always - thanks for sharing your techniques and tricks - it is much appreciated!
@HomeBrewNetwork
@HomeBrewNetwork 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think they would, they aren't really humid type plants and they need that cold spell over winter to die off so they grow healthy each year. Thanks for watching mate!

Really depends on where in brissy you are and the spot you have for them, they need a fairly cold winter, but I know it used to get to near bloody zero while I was on night shift at the EKKA! Worth a shot. Cheers
