Not just veterans!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have PTSD caused by childhood trauma and also having a stroke at the age of 28. I am hyper-vigilant 24/7. I am aware of danger ALL THE TIME! Please stop just saying its for veterans only.

I'm 27 and just had a TIA. It seems to be leaving some lingering PTSD (which I have had since I was 12) because I am very nervous about it happening again, especially without it having a cause we could find. Hope you are recovered and healthy 💜

Similar! I was abuse as a younger child as well. When I found out i was suspected of having ptsd, I kept think "how I could get the same thing that war veterans have?" I am still under 18 but after thinking I have realized that when are put into a constant state of fear for 3 years by your own father, you do not come out unscathed. You like you and them.

Helena, we know it is not just Veterans like myself. We understand that any life threatening event can cause ptsd. I just hope that any and all awareness about ptsd can bring about more research and treatments for all to benefit.

I have been diagnosed with PTSD by the VA. After decades of suffering in silence now I have a better understanding of PTSD. After many years being told by my wife and daughter I had issues. I finally decided to seek some help. Is been a struggle to bring up the thoughts if the accident I suffered in the military however I am optimistic that I'll somehow come out of this shell with the help I am receiving. Peace ✌🏽

My best friend , my only true friend, my husband died August 2016 from injuries resulting from a tragic head on car crash. I met him when I was 14.... For 23 years we grew up beside eachother....& now I haven’t a clue who I am anymore. I’m trying to be strong for our 3 little girls, but even 730 something days later..... the loss the trauma it hasn’t faded a single bit. Please pray for my heart.

16 and have had it since 14. Childhood abuse sucks. Wars are obvious. Abuse and manipulation are not. I think that is what most people do not understand.

lack of empathy is the cause. empathy is the solution. this is not just a 'veteran' problem... this is rampant amongst adoptees and those who experience all sorts of childhood traumas, rape, domestic violence, etc...

I was very interested in what Linda had to say as PTSD seems to be becoming more prevalent than in the past. I agree with Helena, it is not just veterans it is something that can happen to anyone and, to animals as well, let's not ignore them, they have many reasons to suffer from it. I am dealing with an elephant that has PTSD and I have no one I can ask for help. It is a very sobering thought that even in the human world there seems to be no real idea of how to help. Surely work is being done on this subject?

Does anybody care about trauma victims of domestic violence?. Twenty years since I was determined to be disabled by my injuries. Medical Providers are quick to mis-label their patients; and eager to issue meds with side affects worse than the condition being treated; but leave it up to the patient to seek therapeutic treatment. As a result, despite having a Law License and skills honed during this "healing" period, I am still bound by PTSD and and TBI; yet a Vanderbilt University primary care physician Pareira dares to ridicule and disparage me, "Surely you don't think you are still affected." Those matters you complain about are probably nothing. When I demonstrated my lack of confidence in them; they terminated me as a patient, alleging noncompliance. So I don't won't to be a guinea pig for experimental drugs; as you deny me treatment that could possibly make a difference, Duh! Is there any hope for empathy and understanding? Or is there simply no money in it?

Search for a good clinical neurologist and a good clinical neuropsychologist. Any doctor who treats a patient with contempt is himself or herself contemptible. Also, seriously, investigate the possible use of medical marijuana. I'm a TBI/PTSD patient. My neurologist believes its worth my experimenting with, and I've started to do so.

Okay, I listened to this video and some of the things Linda Fletcher said were bugging me. So I to listened again with a discerning ear. I see all the good things that are said about her on the page above. Then I hear her qualify herself in this talk. I just go wow, amazing lady. So now I qualify myself. I completed 6th grade. I agree with some of the things Linda Fletcher says. The things I really disagree is what I will bring up. If Linda has the degree of understanding I believe she is trying to impart to us, she would not say profound PTSD her father had. First off she isn't a clinician. It is either PTSD or complex PTSD. Then she talks about stress concerning PTSD. People do talk about stress, to be clear PTSD is anxiety disorder. Jails full of Veterans, not true. What is know about suicide, approximately half of the Veterans who take their lives never left America. Knock, knock who's there? Nobody. How about knock, knock who's there? National Center for PTSD. Little has changed since WW1. A great deal has changed since WW1. If you study the history of trauma this is apparent. In 1980 is when the DSM3 had PTSD in it. Then DSM4 to DSM5 there has been changes made because of the better understanding of PTSD. The VA also has a good understanding of moral injury. Jonathan Shay 1995 book Achilles in Vietnam. Is were the words moral injury comes from. The VA does work on the causes of PTSD. Exposure therapy and cognitive therapy. They also talk about spiritually and meditation. Psychiatry has done the same thing for a 100 years. Look up a little bit of the history and practice of Psychiatry. The CDC would follow the medical model. The VA follows the biopsychosocial model. Which is the medical, psychological social models together. There is peer to peer in places across America and more are showing up. And more are needed. On youtube here are some videos. Return from Chaos, treating PTSD. Peter Tuerk Tedx Carleston. Understanding PTSD effects on Brain, body and emotions. Janet Seahorn Tedx CSA. The effects of trauma on the brain and how it affects behaviors. John Rigg Tedx Augusta. And if you or someone you know might have PTSD. The National Center for PTSD has information for family members and information for Veterans on understanding and dealing with PTSD. It's not exhaustive on the subject of PTSD. It still can be helpful for some.

Military veterans currently account for 8 percent of the national prison and jail population, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics. It is unclear, however, how many veterans are under communit The Cleveland journal of medicine reports combat vets are more likely to have suicide ideation & to commit suicide. The cdc should be more involved in veteran suicide, but they'd rather be involved in pain management of people with rare & incurable diseases like ALS, PLS, EDS, RSD, MS, SPINAL cord damage, Syringomelia, cancer, etc... The cdc needs to get back in its lane & help stop the epidemic of veteran suicide instead of sticking their nose into the treatment of patients they have never even met.

There is enough evidence now that Psychedelics such as Ayahuasca, Psilocybin and MDMA have great potential to treat PTSD. These plant medicines deal with the cause not the symptoms. Ideally these medicines could be given in a therapeutic environmental with emotional support being given during the process of the experience.

There is genuine possibility for healing PTSD if you are willing to try an alternative approach. There's an amazing quantum energy healer I have worked with who can do profound healing of old trauma. Kaayla Vedder of B.C. She works just as effectively long distance as in person, you don't even have to go there. (We are just beginning to understand time-space, so try to keep an open mind. I am glad I did!) Kaayla is simply astonishing, how much she can shift and how rapidly (and how painlessly). If you aren't happy with the quality of your life, with how little current real help medical science can offer that doesn't involve nasty side effects, look her up on line. She can help you on all levels, because there is soul loss involved as well as neurological damage. Kaayla can help bring that realest part of you back. You can be restored. Don't give up, keep an open mind and look her up.

And she's not even talking about the PTSD the soldiers inflicted on the civilians. We need better politicians and an end to wars. The fascist leaders need to be taken out directly - not the innocent civilians. Let's stop glorifying guns and war and the yahoo 2nd Amendment malarky. How many women have PTSD from their gun-toting partners?
