I didn't realize the poodle was blind until the rescue was over!!!

When we received the call on the Hope For Paws line, I thought I was responding to a call about a dog who was hit by a car. I had no idea the dog was paralyzed by fear of moving around... blind.
Rescues like this are possible only thanks to your donations. It costs thousands of dollars to do eye surgeries, but turning him around in the way you will see in the video is definitely worth it!

But keep in mind that some owners imagine it's "more humane" to abandon a sick dog on the streets where they hope someone will take him in, rather than surrender him to the city shelter where a death sentence is all but certain.

Rachana Pawar - Abandoned because of his behavior-- blind and snapping, especially if there were kids in the home. Owner unwilling (or didn't know how) to do behavior work, and unable to afford vet care. Ignorant about the no-kill movement and where to go for help. So dumping the dog looked like the easy answer.

You can tell by the behavior, but when you are rescuing the dog you typically don't look for signs like this. The main goal is obviously to secure the dog as quick and stress-free as possible.

I could tell that he was blind within seconds of the video starting. He has a very bad glare to his eyes, and an injured dog that could still see most likely would have gotten more aggressive much faster. One big example of this is the rescue of the pit bull who had her leg broken in 3 places but still got up and actually lunged at Eldad when he approached. But, I understand how the different factors (the sun, the highway close by) had influenced Eldad's judgement.

I'm guessing cataracts. We had a white poodle develop diabetes, then cataracts at about 6 years old. Had the 2 surgeries, one one each eye, to remove them. He lived a full life with us. We had named him Kramer after wacky Kramer on Seinfeld.

There are other circumstances, like if a dog was born on the streets or if it ran away and never found its home again... like I agree that humans shouldn’t treat animals the way SOME of us humans do, but it’s not all of us. YOUNG you can already go in shelters and Spca, after the covid for sure, and pet rescued animals, give them treats and toys or even take them for a walk outside. It cost only a big heart and you truly have a big one!

I'm really sorry that I can't contribute right now, I'm barely keeping my dog & myself fed but when things get better I'll be sure to make up for it. You kind, sensitive and caring people are the best! It kills me what little regard some people have for animals. I keep you folks in my prayers nightly, The Lord has a special place for you & you're always in my heart. 💕👍 Sorry but I have to go now, your videos always make me cry, it's disgusting how some people treat animals, thank God you're there to help some of these poor creatures out and restore their trust in human beings.
