This was a prime Kovalev ....his cardio was shot after this fight against the two andre ward fights. It's amazing a 49 year old made it 12 rounds. Hopkins got a few good punches in there...but he did not throw enough punches in bunches to put any pressure on kovalev.

I wasnt a Hopkins fan before this fight, but after seeing this fight i have tremendous respect for him. At 49, he took on a prime Kovalev and went the distance and looked comfortable doing it. With the exception of Roy Jones' commentary, which was spot on as always champ, I didnt like some of the negativity towards Hopkins from the others. Kovalev didnt make Hopkins look old and slow, far from it. On the contrary, Hopkins did what younger fighters failed to do with Kovalev: He went the distance, his face was unmarked, and he never looked phased or uncomfortable. Tremendous respect for you champ!

He opened up both eyes and Lacy's nose in the fight and hit him 1006 times in the fight . Yes , 1006 TIMES ! If I remember correctly , he had 32 knockouts and also beat Chris Eubank earlier in his career and was as fast if not faster than Roy Jones . His punch out put could not be matched and had quite the chin . He for real looked like a skinny nerd but could throw hands better than anybody . And I'm an American saying this . O he also beat up on Kessler for 12 rounds . He had hand problems like Floyd the second half of his career so his KO's went down , but his output , again couldn't be matched . His last fight was against Roy Jones Jr. in 2008 I think when they were both in their late 30's . If you want to see some amazing offensive skill , watch the fights with Jones , Lacy , and Kessler and even the one with Eubank . The Hopkins fight with Calzaghe was boring , as Hopkins held on for dear life the whole entire fight . His two best was against Jones and Lacy if I had to pick two .

In truth, none of us know who would have won any of those matchups in each guy's prime. It's why boxing is so frustrating as a sport for refusing to make these fights when guys are at their peaks. Obviously with Kovalev-Hopkins, that wasn't possible, but it sure was with Kovalev-Ward, but Ward and HBO seemed like they wanted to wait for the right moment to ensure Ward would come out on top, which they did. Easy to do when you have spies in Kovalev's camp, which Ward's team admitted to having. They will tell you the right time to fight a guy, they will tell you the moment he's no longer at his best.

Hopkins best defense is his reputation for ramming his head into the opponents face. Every opponent has to guard against that dirty shit first and foremost. That's exactly why Kovalev fought very cautiously and didn't knock Hopkins out. Clearly Kovalev could have knocked Bernard out one minute into the first round. He played it safe and smart, because he refused to be another Hopkins victim of head hockey. When Kovalev finally got busy in the last round, Hopkins was within a punch of going nite- nite. The commentators should be embarrassed of their horrible act. They praised Hopkins because they said he was taking the shots,.....then for the last rounds they constantly criticized kovalev for trying to knock the hell out of Hopkins. I'm going to replay to count the number of times they said kovalev wasn't being smart and was playing into Hopkins strategy. Roy jones insisted Hopkins will surely knock him out because he was giving Hopkins the chance to do that. With 10 seconds left in the fight, jones said Hopkins id going to knock him out. How about this; leave kovalev alone and let him fight the way he feels. He beat the hell out of hopkins all night, then was critisized 100 times by the commentators. Why don't they convene before the fight, write a script for each round and give that to kovalev? This was the most nauseating sucking up since malignaggi hugged broner's balls after getting spanked..........

In their prime both Hopkins and Kovalev would have beaten Canelo at light heavyweight. I also believe a prime Hopkins would have beaten a prime Kovalev. You have to remember in this fight Hopkins was about 2 months from his 50th Birthday and kovalev still 31yrs old. Personally I think this fight should never have been made but was only made due to BP's great boxing achievements and his unbelievable longevity. BP is one wily old fox to last the distance.

idk what has you thinking ward (a superb boxer at a younger age) wont look any better than hopkins did on this night. this old b hop was able to not only make sergey miss more than he shouldve (with hop being up there in age) he was also able to land a good shot causing kovalev some problems for a few seconds. ward is crafty/tricky. he can fight on the inside and definitely on the outside. if his chin can hold up (which I assume it will) I see no way that sergey can beat him.
