I hope this man does more of these classroom re-enactments and uploads them to KZbin. I've learned more through a few videos than full documentary series on History Channel. *But the "arrows will blot out the sun" - History Channel* vs groin strikes, armor weaknesses, etc etc etc. Literally night and day.

I know its been awhile, but would love to see a video on the armor's actual construction and how the various pieces tie together. Why you chose a leather suit as opposed to a linothorax.

There's really not much evidence for linothorax made of multi-ply layers of linen. There are only a handful of references to linothorax and one is from The Iliad about a group of soldiers from a particular city who wear quilted linen armor. Some of the other references are of linen armor given as gifts to Greeks from foreigners. Linen would've been expensive, hard to fix, and difficult to construct. Leather on the other hand would've been plentiful, easy to work with, and cheap, plus provides excellent protection especially if layered. My armor is 3-ply saddle leather. I lose torso mobility but I'm a tank in it. Unfortunately, I didn't construct the armor and am not skilled in making armor. All of my gear was made for me by my friend Mike DeMik. Mike passed away in 2022. All I have is what I have now. We do have a detailed tutorial on how to build the armor on our website TheHoplites dot com. Look under "the Goat's Pen" and you'll find it.

Absolutely amazing job by Mr.Castile! Feels like been in a time machine straight back to Ancient Greece! I've never seen so interactive presentation of an hoplite's armour! May I ask what is the cost of the whole set of armour been presented in the video?
@gamalcastile4 жыл бұрын
The panoply I wear is more than $8000. Everything else on stage is another $10,000+

@@gamalcastile Very expensive indeed! My sincere congratulations for your excellent work! I really wish I could attend one of your presentations by myself! My deepest respect from distant Greece Mr.Castile! Alexandros Panagiotopoulos (Alexander in plain English)
