Nice to see someone give an opinion and state it as such. Your points are all valid and give me good consideration on my next pistol build.
@evey02593 жыл бұрын
Hard disagree. When I totally accidentally shoulder my not-an-SBR, the SBA3 doesn't feel as solid and the narrower contact point with my shoulder and pec feel flimsier and less stable. The SBA4 feels like the best not-a-stock around. I do hate the positioning of the QD cups on the SBA4, but that's my only complaint.
@MrBlahblahblee Жыл бұрын
Yeah the QD point on the SBA4 gets in the way of the charging handle but just put a QD endplate and run the sling there. And in the event that the brace happens to accidentally/inexplicably touch the opposite shoulder, the backplate mount option prevents the sling from getting in the way upon swapping sides

I have both as well, and for just shooting I prefer the SBA3. The SBA4 looks and acts very 'stock-like', but with my wider jaw I generally don't like wide cheek welds on stocks, and the rear 'corners' of the SBA4's brace are kind of uncomfortable when accidentally shouldered. The SBA3 on the other hand had what I feel like is a much nicer contour for my check and when occasionally shouldered feels much more comfortable. I have a Splitfix strap on all my SBA3's which definite helps with collapsing, but as pointed out in the video, not having extra support struts doesn't really come into play when shooting. Actually for my SBA4 I shaved down the width of the cheek weld and rounded off the rear corners for comfort. Obviously doesn't change the function of it whatsoever, but just makes it a bit more 'ergonomic'. Still I prefer the SBA# even though theoretically it's not as sturdy. I even prefer the SBA3 over the Tailhook.

After playing with it a bit I sort of concur. That 12.5 AR has a QD endplate that I normally put the sling on, and I'll go back to using that instead of the QD on the brace.
@Nuke-China4 жыл бұрын
@@Hoplopfheil Waiting for an SBA4 that changes the placement of the QD socket to the rear of the stock and changes the orientation of the latch so that it allows use of all 6 positions. The whole argument over length of pull on a pistol with a stock makes no fucking sense seeing as length of pull involves the length from the trigger to where your should contacts the stock, and braces aren't stocks. Brace manufacturers need to stop being pussies.

Castle Doctrine The ATF has to approve the brace. When they do that length of pull is one of the factors. SBA wouldnt be able to get it approved for sale. If they did sell it they risk their whole business being shutdown. @@Genesis23OPB Oddly enough, the SBR law is an "orphaned regulation" with no real purpose. Originally, back in 1934, they were going to make all pistols NFA weapons requiring a $200 tax stamp to purchase, like machine guns. However, the outcry over that was intense enough so they dropped the idea like a hot potato almost instantly and pistols remained unrestricted beyond normal firearms law. However, one piece of that -- the "short-barreled rifle" ruling, which was intended so that people wouldn't add stocks to pistols and thus circumvent the restriction of pistols -- was adopted and got legal force, even though it no longer accomplished anything practical. There were supposed to be two categories, pistols and rifles, with short-barreled rifles effectively counting as pistols. However, because pistols ended up being treated legally the same as rifles, it created a third category, SBRs, for no particular reason at all, completely detached from the original purpose. Since pistols weren't, and aren't, restricted, the SBR thing has no function. It's supporting a restriction that doesn't actually exist in U.S. law. It's literally a regulation intended only to support another regulation that was never adopted, and so at the moment does nothing except create a hassle, while firearms on "either side of it" (pistols and rilfes, respectively) don't have restrictions on them. That's why you Swiss chaps have a more rational classification -- you're not dealing with what's literally an orphaned, pointless leftover of a much more restrictive, widely-applied regulation that was abandoned and never used. Interesting stuff, if kind of depressing in its pointlessness, also.
