I think the reason the app doesn't allow you to remap the XYAB buttons is to prevent you from locking yourself out of the app. Imagine you remap all your A buttons to do nothing and don't map anything to A. Because the app can not be controlled by mouse (and on the console you wouldn't have a mouse anyway), you'd end up with no way of resetting the controller. Hori would end up with support issues and people returning their controllers to the seller who would complain to Hori. So they just removed the feature. The same reasoning was probably behind the earlier version of the app that only allowed you to swap button functions. It was all to prevent people from shooting themselves in the foot. What they should be doing instead is add a factory-reset command to the controller, like holding Start, Select, Guide together for 3s. Then they could allow the remapping and people would always have a way back. Maybe someone at Hori will get that idea at some point.

The solution to that is to not allow the user to not map buttons for A and B. Totally doable.

they need to add macros to these 6 buttons pads as well. the macros can be on the back or any other button. just asking the SOCD in Hori Octa if you press back+forward= forward ? is last win command or neutral ?

Yeah, I've been checking for updates daily, so I was really eager to see what improvements were made in this update. It only takes a few minutes to make one of these videos, so I figured I'd give everyone else an update.

please i need help, i manually installed this new firmware on my playstation octa and now it seems like it's bricked. PC nor PS5 is picking up the device at all. How can I factory reset my PS5 Octa????

I don't have the PS5 version. When did you purchase it? If it's still within the return window, then you may want to return/exchange it. Otherwise, try going to Hori's Web site and contacting them for assistance.

I'm looking into buying one of these. What I'm most concerned about is if I change the D-Pad sensitivity for a profile, is that stored on the controller? If I take the controller with me and use it on a different console/PC, will the respective profile have the configured sensitivity or is this stored in the app on my computer and everything reverts to default when I use the controller somewhere else?

The profiles are all stored in the controller as far as I can tell.

They updated the xbox octa app for pc, but i don t quite understand what they changed on it. Maybe just some cosmetic things in order to match the ps5 octa app? If that s the case, that sucks, man. See ya and take care.

Windows 10 prompted me to restart for an update, so I did that and just happened to check the Microsoft Store for app updates. The update had already been installed automatically. It did state that it was modified today, so it definitely came in sometime today.

Just wanted to follow up and let you know that I did finally end up receiving an email from HORI about the firmware and app update. I didn't receive it until yesterday, and it got sorted into my Junk folder, so I didn't notice it immediately. It does seem that HORI is emailing anyone who complained about the issue to notify them of the updates. I think I'll respond to ask them if they plan to eventually enable us to remap all of the buttons, though.

@@CalcioRoma I ended up sending them an email, giving them a few suggestions as to how to bypass some of the issues they seem to be trying to avoid by not allowing full button remapping. I was thinking of maybe going through my games library to find good examples of button mapping screens that I could edit together into a video to show them. I really just think they need to ditch the current layout and have a picture of the controller to one side with a vertical list of the other buttons you can reassign ONLY with the d-pad (by using Up/Down to highlight buttons and Left/Right to change their assignments), along with an option that prompts you for every single button in sequence that allows you to just remap them all at once. I mean, I understand why they don't seem to want to give you access to the A and B buttons at least (since those are kind of necessary for navigating the current app), but that shouldn't keep us from being able to fully remap the controller. It's a solvable issue.

If it's like the Xbox version, then you may need to rely on the store on the console itself to download the app. You can only use the Xbox Store or Microsoft Store on Windows to access the Xbox version. Try checking the PlayStation Store.

I have the device manager but how do I actually get the firmware to update the controller?

It may depend on the version of the firmware currently on the controller. Not sure. If it doesn't give you a clear way to update the firmware for the controller through the app, then you may still need to download a newer firmware version through Hori's Web site and flash that to the controller beforehand.

@@kubev my controller version is 1.2.9 and I checked their site I don’t see anywhere I can download firmware update for it. Unless it’s hidden the only one that pops up for a firmware under support is the Xbox model of the controller not the ps5 one. You have a link? What version is your controller on?

@@kingace1713 You're using the PlayStation version? I believe the PlayStation version of the Octa launched well after Hori had incorporated the firmware updates into the app. If you're not seeing an option to upgrade the firmware, then it's possible yours is already as up-to-date as it can be. That would make some amount of sense, as Hori did sort out most of the issues with the Xbox version before the PlayStation version even launched. I have no experience with the PlayStation version of the controller, though, as I was so disappointed in the Xbox version that I wouldn't have purchased the controller for another platform.

@@kingace1713 My controller is on 4.0.9, but there's no guarantee the Xbox version uses the same version numbers as the PlayStation version.

I just bought one of these for the xbone. Seems strange that you cant remap the stick. I mean you can turn the 4 Dpad directions into other buttons but cant turn the stick directions into other buttons. Strange. Also strange you cant seem to do macros like L2 being A and Y or whatever. All this xbox and sony trying to cut out 3rd party controllers not giving them money to be licensed is just a pain on the gamer. Some of us like myself have multiple controllers for each and every platform when in reality, as we see on PC, 1 controller could actually be used on every platform. Like this hori. The Xbox and PS5 versions are basically the same. Different button icons though the buttons do the same thing and the PS version has a touchpad. There should have just been a universal one able to be used for all platforms.
