I don't know why this game needs a remake. I still play it on the 4 and I still go back and play. I played this when it came out the first time. I used to have trouble with the stalker, but if you observe long enough, it's easier.

I am still really anxious to know how they will handle Sylens in the 3rd game. I am PRAYING they don't try to just write him out of the story... That would be a huge mistake! However I would also hate a recasting... Thus I am truly hoping they can somehow get his family to sign off on allowing his likeness to continue to be used in game, & simply get another person to do the voicework & motion capture. Having a different voice will take some getting used to... But it's better than a full recast of the role I think. A full recast would be too jarring.

There was some annoying out of place pre-rendered cut scenes that resulted in Aloy having inconsistent outfits which I assume was due to time constraints. I hope these are fixed for the remaster.

It should be pretty trivial to "enhance" the inventory. Simply increase the stack size of items. So stacks of 5 like lenses/hearts could go to 10..25. I'm looking at you, watcher lens/heart. Plants and meat can stack in 50. Some of the ammo resource that stacks in 50 could bump to 100 like others. Even wood can go to bigger stacks. This can reduce inventory clogs. It is really zero programming effort so it is just do they want to reduce frequent/constant inventory clogs. Pickup animation disable is again trivial to implement. Auto pickup is another issue and not trivial. For medicinal plants it is trivial, but for others maybe not so much. They could do auto pickup if the pickup would not create a new stack in the inventory space. You don't want to add to the existing HZD inventory clog thing.

Thanks for the summary (nothing new though). I'm afraid they won't change any mechanics at all. Biggest downside of HFW is the too small inventory and the day-night cycle without skip. I had inventory (and transmog, also missing) fixed by mods, would be bad to lose that. 😞

Hey just a quick note the Nubis cloud system was used in forbidden west the voxel based solution is used in the dlc so what they are doing is making the volcano smoke from zero dawn and replacing it with that burning shores cloud tech the normal clouds uses the same system as forbidden west which by the way is amazing cloud system and is a massive improvement over zero dawns old version which is still nubis but a older version

​@@mr.h5566 they forced an update on EGS and Steam, then pulled the game from sale so no one could opt in to the $10 upgrade. GOG won't let them inject PSN requirements or copy protection, so they version will stay the base game (until Sony makes them delist it).

Adding some of the Forbidden West or similar features is actually easier than some of the new tools they had to develop in order to update some things for the Remaster. (like custom tools to help animators re-target mocap data like they've mentioned in the PS Blog about the difficulty they had with the character eye movement in Maya vs Guerrilla's Decima Engine) Some mods available for HZD do already provide to a certain extent similar things to what Forbidden West has so I assume it should be easier for Devs to execute such tasks than it is for a modder

My biggest issue with both games is ammo. It is really a gameplay buster. At least with the 10X inventory mod fixes that for HZD. It is tiresome in HFW to have to keep going to my stash and bench to get more ammo. I won't be bothering with the remaster because of that unless the mods work with the remaster which is unlikely.

The only 2 things I've wanted since playing Forbidden West to be implemented into Zero Dawn even before they announced the Remaster was to retrofit 1. the autopick item setting and 2. the stash system which could easily just be a singular stash in Meridian, helping to keep the overall, original integrity intact but also giving the player the better feeling of progression instead of feeling like having to throw away the rewards for "playing the game" when inventory got full. Being able to stash Hearts, Circulators, Treasures whose function is just to be sold would be enough of a game changer in itself; I also wouldn't mind being able to store reserve Coils & Weaves.

@CarterElkins I'm saying creating a SINGULAR stash location with maybe 2 types of very simplified ui tabs for 2 item types would not be that hard to create at all... as opposed to a whole array of cherrypicked stash locations with tabs for every type of item... and they have not announced everything... so it's premature to definitively conclude anything... they've been very quiet with any quality of life details relating to the actual gameplay but very open with cosmetic changes (graphics update, redone motion capture, reusing character models from FHW, widescreen support, adding more npcs to Meridian)... I would also like to add that this is more of a remake than a remaster...my definitions are along the lines of Remaster = modifing assets from the OG with maybe some completely new things tossed in but still using the OG assets, whereas a Remake = taking OG assets and completely replacing them with newer ones... and a Remake inherently requires more work than a Remaster by my definitions (yes, they're pulling assets from HFW but there's plenty they still would've had to redo from the ground up that didn't make it into HFW). so imo, now is the perfect time to also borrow the stash from HFW (even if it's simplified)... and as i said, their advertising team seems to be more interested in showing off cosmetics (which is still good btw, not saying I'm against all the graphical updates)... at the end of the day, we'll have to wait and see 😁

This is a remaster, not a remake, and your definitions of those words do not match the industry's. They've been quiet about quality of life changes because there isn't much to disclose, and they don't believe the small tweaks there are would interest the player base. They've chosen each word of their marketing and presentation carefully, and we, as fans, would be wise to take their words as they intended, and avoid the temptation to attach hopes or expectations about things they've never even hinted at.

I welcome all the technical improvements and enhancements but as far as I am concerned, I was much more expecting updated gameplay and accessibility features I loved Zero Dawn at the time, but Forbidden West brought so much to the formula that I don’t think I can replay Zero Dawn without being frustrated all the way through

I'd like some news on gameplay improvements. Haven't played both games in a while but the thing that is stuck in my head is terrain traversal like getting stuck on some kind of minuscule object that Aloy refuses to hop over and forces me to use the jump button 😂 It wasn't even addressed in Forbidden West. If they're gonna remaster a game that still looks decent, I at least want them to address annoying gameplay issues lol

I have the original Complete Edition on Steam, and I pre-purchased the upgrade to Remastered edition. In my Steam games list, I now have the original Complete Edition, and I also have the new Remastered edition as a separate game (with no Install button yet, obviously). So Steam is currently treating them as separate games.

Any news on if you'd be able to start a new game plus straight away from your original ps4 game save files like with the forbidden west ps4 to ps5 upgrade? or will you have to start from square one?

As mentioned in the video, you can use old saves. For a PS4 save, you’ll need to load it on a PS5 with your game disc in it. You can do that now to prepare. You can upgrade for $10 with the disc inserted on launch day.

Digital Foundry already has official footage of the Remaster, & based on the interactions w consumables, there is definitely no Stash...😥 That said, I REALLY hope we at least get Gyro aiming as well as Transmog! I can't remember if Zero Dawn had Transmog or not.

Im looking so much forward to this remaster! Alot pf good things seems to be brought over and borrowed from Forbidden West and things that have been enhanced. I loved the original and everything about it. But like mentioned, expression capture could have been better in the original. Which Im glad they did work on the DLC and the seaqual. But I do hope they kept Julie Elven's, Aloy's theme song in the map overlook. I just really loved listening to her voice while I was figureing out where to go and honestly... My only worry is that HFW tends to run poorly for me despite meeting the recc requirements, so I’m worried that will happen for the remaster too

I wish I could be 100% happy about this - I mean, I think this sounds great for this game, from this developer, they made the remaster worth the money for people. But I also fear that this kind of approach (and Horizon is clearly a trend leader for Sony's ecosystem) will be abused by lazy publishers, and they'll just replace the original $10 version of their old games with $40 versions with a coat of paint. Anyway congrats on 100k - this was a serious detailed review of this news, exactly what you always bring to the table

Don't get people whinging about Sony raising the price on the full version of the game, it helps pay for the development of this and future remakes. Personally I'm stoked with the $20 upgrade (in my region), I put a ton of time into the original when I played a couple of years ago but saved Frozen Wilds, so will have some new content to play with the best visuals. 🤓
