Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered On The Steam Deck, Worth The Upgrade?

It's so insane to be able to play a game that large, intricate, and detailed on a handheld. I would have died to have something like this growing up. And it's not even being streamed from another PC, it's being rendered right there in your hands. It's so crazy. I took it for granted for so long, but I have the ability these types of games literally right in my hands and it feels great!

I love this comment and feel the same way! I don't have a Steam Deck but really want one. I remember buying a PSP for the first time and being amazed at the graphics and dreamt we would get to this point. The Vita and Switch were stepping-stones. Amazing technology.

In my opinion even a 2017 Horizon Zero Dawn on a PS4 looks that good it didin't deserved this remaster for a PS5 and PC, but looks a FREAKING AMAZING on Steam Deck OLED and I know it's going to be on the PS5 Pro! 😅

It's for sure worth it if you already have it, mainly because you get a bundle with the complete and remastered edition, so if you already have the completed edition, you get the remastered for $15 AUD

I’m an old school gamer. To even have this running on handheld is amazing to me. I have an Xbox and ps5 but I’m constantly more on my Nintendo switch. Take my money

One of the reasons why i prefer PC as you can remove the DRM on most games so you own them for real. You can of course not remove DRM on any online only game.

Online multiplayer ones, maybe not. But games that need a server-client connection just to efkkyou over. Have occasionally been made to run offline, without digital dumbfuokery.

@@yasirrakhurrafat1142 Yeah. Someone recently managed to get Battleborn work again with a custom server as not even single player worked offline. Several people gave up that game, except for one as it were a hard nut to solve. When Velan Studios closed Knockout city, the released a free server program so people on PC only could play it forever. Crystal Dynamics made a offline mode for Marvel's Avengers too, and Arkane made offline for Redfall. There are some developers who cared too, as their games would be lost forever if they didn't do anything about it.

I'm actually surprised this runs so well, I expected worse. However I doubt the graphical upgrade is noticeable enough (on Steam Deck) to be worth playing over the original.

It definitely is noticeable, but considering it runs worse than forbidden West, and zero dawn has an original version that runs extremely well, it's not really worth it in my opinion

I've been waiting literal years for HZD to get down to $10. It got down as low as $12.49 during sales, but then the remaster came out and drove the prices up again, and you can't buy the base game without the upgrade. I guess I have a few more years to wait.

​@@DemonicGorilla I think you are mistaking FSR Upscaling.......and FSR Frame generation.....these are two different things.......Upscaling just renders at a lower resolution and upscales...........Frame gen is the one that has to delay, analyze, create and insert frames........it's frame-gen that causes input lag....especially at lower starting FPS like (80fps and below). Regular upscaling is just fine and needed especially at higher resolutions.

​@LuisPerez-5 I think what Maverick is saying is that there are many older games that look as good or better and run as well or better than games coming out today. There are a few reasons for this (over-reliance on deferred shading, TAA, and canned "optimizations" in UE and other engines [i.e. auto-LOD], and over-reliance on faster hardware rather than doing proper optimization). At least those are the rumors. I don't know the tech details that well, but I do get the feeling some old games do work and look better. Think Star Wars BF 2 vs Hogwarts Legacy.

it doesn't matter what fps you run, if it matches your screen refresh rate, you will have perfect frame time.

This game wasn't good. It's was overly repetitive. 95% of all story encounters were skippable without hurting the story. I don't understand why gamers pretend they enjoyed it.

Nobody is pretending anything. When it came out it had very little competition in the space, Breath of the Wild on switch and that was it. Even now it has very little competition. Action adventure game with minor rpg elements where you fight robotic dinosaurs. People got excited at the original trailer because the concept alone got people into it. delivered exactly what it said it would. That being said, it did get old for me about halfway through. I got it for free through ps plus and made it about 20 hours in and gave up. Picked it up on steam for $7 and made it about the same amount through and gave up. Others played it through multiple times and loved it. I really don't think the massive success is people pretending.
