I found the Hornady original recipe for their Leverevolution FTX 160 ammo and used that. Works great! Deadly load, deadly bullet!

Nice. Not saying it isn’t deadly, just had jacket/core separation regardless of velocity. Thanks for stopping by, watching and the comment

Don’t doubt the performance of these bullets on actual game! They drop in their tracks and they make big exit holes!!!!

Oh, I don’t doubt them with all the great reviews by folks who used them. Just showing what they did in my little test with various velocities. I have yet to have a chance for myself to find out

I have a 1977 30-30 and a 1953 Marlin in .35 Rem. The .35 LOVES the Lever Ammo as does the 30-30. I have seen on other videos as to the jacket separation with this line of ammo. It works wonderfully on deer (I have shot both large northern deer and smaller southern deer), but that separation makes me leery about using it where bear is a very real possibility. Which in the GA mountains is always a possibility. I know it will work in either caliber but I feel better using the 300 Win Mag. Great video!! I enjoyed it!

Interesting video Josh. Like you, I mark my work up test rounds as well as place an index card in the ammo box listing the charge level of each batch. Always good insurance. About the FTX, I know many disagree with me and see jacket separation as a fail 100% of the time and that's OK. I still say that bullet will do just fine on deer sized game. Bigger angry critters? No, I would not use them. But deer aren't built like mastodon and aren't tough to kill with good shot placement. That said, I don't think I've ever seen the FTX bullet touted by Hornady as being a "penetrator" type bullet. It is designed to dump alot of energy in appropriately sized game. I've personally witnessed what a 44mag FTX does on two different deer and it was absolutely effective both times. No bullets were recovered when field dressing or processing either animal. You can tell by the reaction of the jugs and where the damage occured to your table that the bullet exerted alot of energy into jugs 1 and 2, particularly jug 1. And yet enough of the bullet passed through those two and still had enough fuel in it's tank to go through a couple more, albeit separating somewhere in between. I would still have zero reservation using that bullet on deer sized game. Nice tight groups too! And that is the often overlooked part of the equation when sometimes so much focus is placed on terminal performance. If you can't put the bullet where it needs to be, then everything else is pointless.

Yup, I agree 100%.

I haven't had jacket / core separation issues with the FTX bullet when shooting them into animals, Elk aren't mastodons, either. Stay away from bone, and they're just slightly over-grown mule deer on broadside double lung shots. I made my longest elk kill at 178 yards with the 160 grain FTX at 2,380 fps out of my Marlin 336. "One and done," just as I expected that it would be.

I think I'll stay with Core Lokt when shooting my 35 Rem.
