I’ve come to terms that there is an ALTER film for every feeling we’ve ever felt, every thing we experienced and perhaps some things we’ve tasted.

And every time we got a little bit of something that we wanted more of. Honestly, these short films get my heart pounding more than full length films because I'm left knowing there's more to the story that we're not getting. It's kind of brilliant and cruel at the same time.

That scene looking up in the bare trees was very weird and haunting. The desperation was palpable. Really well done short!

The black and white was a nice choice for this film and sets up the contrast of good versus bad decisions quite well. We have a guy who owes money to someone who wants it back. He reaches out to family and friends and doesn't get anywhere. This sets up his conundrum. What do I do? The guy then makes a bad decision and in this case a life altering decision that he is stuck with the consequences of said decision. We all can wear masks and like how this ending could be literal or metaphorical. It had that same vibe as The Masks episode from the original Twilight Zone. Great work by Mike Smith, the crew, and actors. Wasn't quite sure where it was going but it worked well. Peace.

Matt Smith: I am a difficult “scare”. This was frightening… the black n white winter atmosphere, the actor (bravo!) - I can def see that situation, his complete back against the wall, then that Mask. You could almost hear his gears turning out of desperation. It’s alarming how a mask can cause such dread! This was really good!! I hope you keep doing this type of work/art; you are excellent at it. The whole production - even the female victim made it very believable. 👏 👏 👏

@@TheMacgician I started making little shorts a long (so long) time ago in art college and then started doing quite boring corporate work for a long time. I always wanted to get back to narrative and during the pandemic we decided to come together and make something - and BUGBEAR was the result. The film came about when I came across a secondary meaning for bugbear - a mythical creature in the woods.

That was creepy, I seen two sides to the short, the obvious first and then The latter scenario struck me as "you can't undo what you've done". Tried to make sense here without writing a spoiler for everyone else. Good short and acting. Thank you.

This was my first time watching an Alter short. I’m currently diving into Sam Perry-Falvey’s work as I’m a huge Ren supporter. Just kinda getting to explore all Rens talented friends work. So much talent from that whole crew. I thought the story was quite good. I guess it’s a good thing when you’re left wanting more. I’m not accustomed to watching short films, so I guess I would have liked for the story to continue. But I suppose that’s just it…you’re left wondering and imagining what will happen next. It’s a bit annoying if I’m being completely honest. 😂 I have questions. The story seems incomplete. But I get it, that’s kinda the whole point. We’re left hanging, left to concoct our own ending. Artistically, this was very well done. I guess I’m just spoiled from watching full length features where there’s a conclusion; closure. Not having that, is a bit strange and foreign to me. But I guess that’s just my own hang up. Overall, I liked it for what it was. Nice work by all involved. Cheers!

Wtf??...this does not make any sense. What did he find in the woods that changed him?? 🤷🏻‍♂️...he didn't "find" anything that changed him...looked like he was looking for the mask, he knew exactly where it was and like he recognized it...and it seems like he used that mask before to cover his face for whatever reasons. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm sorry that there is very little to this story. A guy needs money and Rob's a woman in the woods and kills her. I've seen it a hundred times. You need some detail or a special item that makes it stand out or gives the story some plot.

more like a notion than a story...no intrest in anyones character cuz there was not sufficient set up and the narrative seemed split between objectives....cheap and booga booga, nothing there, seems a cop out for an actual story...just cuz you shoot in b/w doesnt inherently make it classy....look ill cut away to the tree line during implied violence...then what....couldnt scare a flock of birds to take to the sky at the ultimate moment or....the "im really trying to take this off but its stuck" moment with the camera flailing around to try to sell it...oh well back to the hack drawing board for your plotless self ehhhh
