When I saw you didn't want to hit the first wolf I was cheering for you! Only to see you solve the "puzzle" and hit him at the last moment hahah. As always, thank so much for playing my games :) I 100% agree that The Wine has way more "traditional" scary elements. The Beggar was always going to be the experimental game of the saga. Spoilers ahead: Yep. You are the monster in the beggar. You are the scary part of the game... or at least I designed it so you discover it to be that way by the end of the adventure! The things you can do to the wolf cub if you want to are... not happy :) Glad you choose not to do them but still aknowledged you could do them! I know I tell you this in every one of your videos but thanks for everything you do for the indie horror community. I don't know if this is going to be the last time you will play a game of mine because I am afraid this will be my last horror game. After 4 horror games I want to explore new genres and yes, Iron Reich will be a Half-Like. It has been an absolute pleasure to see you and your community engage with The Wine and The Beggar! A special little green thing got delayed but as soon as I have it I'll send it to you :) On the other hand, what do CJU's viewers think about The Beggar? I want to hear your thoughts, if possible :D A big hug to everyone. I really hope we cross paths in the future! Carlos, solo gamedev.

The Wine was definetly stronger on the horror aspects but there were times were I felt bored, nothing bad or against it. Honestly the best parts were that Roige guys bits when he was hunting you. The Beggar was way more dynamic & kept my attention for longer. Really good story (bummer about the ending, but I see what you did). I have watched the trailer for Iron Reich & would love to see it on this channel. Looks awsome!

I really enjoyed the Beggar, thank you for making it! Is it possible to get a different ending? Maybe if you don’t kill Morvin at the end? Or is the character doomed no matter what? Several jump scares got me good, even having watched the demo. Can’t wait to see your next game, and hopefully Chris will play it even if it’s not a horror game!

Horror is a very broad genre, and now that I've had a deepere look at your February announcement, it sounds like Iron Reich will be what I predicted: A Terrminator-style FPS. Just because the game won't be standard horror fare doesn't mean it won't appear on this channel. In fact, Chris has played quite a few games that weren't horror on this channel. And since this will be the conclusion to the Horror Tales trilogy, he has every reason to play it, especially if we learn more about what happened to the world in the decades sine The Wine. To be perfectly honest, I preferred The Beggar to The Wine. It was more abstract, but reminded me of games like Half-Life Alyx and Drake Hollow where the horror elements are there but you're more focused on the environment and the way the world is a shattered mess. The implications we see as the Beggar overcomes his supposedly imaginary nemesis add just the right amount of psychological horror and in a way that doesn't feel cliche. I grew up watching Alfred Hitchcock and classic horror movies, and The White Mountains was read to me at bedtime when I was quite young. As a result, I'm not a fan of loud noises, over-the-top jumpscares, or monster chase scenes where the goal is to create an artificial sense of panic. Instead, I love horror that plays with your mind, subtle jumpscares that make you wonder if you really saw something, and philosophical dilemmas that leave you up at night. On the other hand, I also was there for the beginning of the slasher subgenre, as well as movies such as Alien, Terminator, and The Black Hole. I loved playing Shivers, the original X-Com, and a lot of other early sci-fi and horror games that came out in the late 1980s and early 1990s (I didn't own a computer until around 1986 unless you count the Atari 400 as a computer and played mainly text adventures before that). As a result, my appreciation for horror comes from a very different place to most of the people on this channel or on Steam. The way you blend different genres and subgenres into Horror Tales means a much wider audience will be able to enjoy it. Everyone will have their own preferred game in the series, but I think thew way each game evolves while sticking to one main storyline is a perfect way to experiment while also keeping your audience. The first game was a bit more like a slasher, with the protagonist always running from an enemy and often dreamlike sections that made you wonder if everything was real or an illusion. The second is more psychological. You're no longer running, but instead have to battle with yourself in a dreamlike post-apocalyptic world, eventually giving up what's left of your humanity without realising it. And the third looks like it will be more of the classic man vs machine style of horror, similar to the old Cybermen from classic Doctor Who, the Cylons from the original Battlestar Galactica, or SkyNet from Terminator. The Beggar and Iron Reich are therefore not a departure from horror, but instead completing a trilogy that pays homage to almost every horror subgenre out there.

Translation: 45:33 same on 46:52 (on the flowery wallpaper) "farewell, azure skies, we've never seen anything more beautiful" 46:26 (sign on the top of the building) "need food, need water" 46:35 and 46:43 (chalk writing on the wall) "your ideals were devised by someone else" 46:50 (in green letters) "quit whining, *last word is quite unreadable but I guess "jump"*) 48:50 "these birds were born and fell in the world where someone sacrificed much more than his comfort ... *last 3 words are unreadable*" I've no idea what that means, its not a proverb. "Birds" are obviously people, who didn't have long to live, but what sacrifices were made and by whom is unclear. All of the above feels off somehow, like they were google translated or written by AI.
@generalhibernator7 ай бұрын
"...чeм-то гораздо большим, чем привычка давать им..." Don't know what is that about either. The first one, about the azure skies, looks like a verse. There are some parallels with some obscene songs popular in soviet army or scout camps - like Целина, целина, голубые дали, мы такую целину на хую видали In general, these all remind me or some "deep" status messages from VKontakte

When The Wine first came out, I don't think anyone could've imagined what a magnificent and varied story it would create. While this one wasn't the usual blend of monsters and jumpscares, it did a wonderful job of mixing environmental horror with non-Euclidean and borderline liminal spaces, with just a touch of psychological horror for good measure. A lot of the spaces remind me strongly of Drake Hollow (excellent light horror game with multiplayer support). It was also interesting that most of the game was "set" in Asia with just brief spaces in Australia and North America. The Spanish near the Australia portion COULD be proof that the Beggar was found in Europe, but Spanish is actually pretty well-known in the West Indies, so the Beggar could've been found somewhere in Indonesia or the Philippines. It makes me wonder if the Beggar couldn't be found because he was in some form of other dimension where parts of the real world were ripped away. Also, I REALLY love the way this game gently transitions us from the more fantasy-style mood of The Wine to what looks to be a Terminator-style sci-fi romp in the upcoming game. Sadly, when it comes to translations, I know way too little to translate most of the languages featured. And while I DO know some Russian, the decals used were purposefully erased in sections, making it pretty much impossible to translate unless you're fluent and can "guess the word". One example is the text at 45:30 (and backwards a little after 49 minutes, as well as many other places), where a section of the bottom line is completely absent with a few letters partially visible before the last word. Another example is 45:36 (also repeated throughout the level). Many of the letters are partially rubbed out, with several being so badly erased that by the third line, the text is almost totally illegible. There were also numerous other decals throughout the level that were really hard to make out or were awkwardly placed. All in all, I really enjoyed this entry in the Horror Tales series. It not only takes the series in a new direction, but hints at a lot of potential untold stories we might one day get to enjoy set prior to this one. The next game should be a real blast to play, especailly if we get to use actual weapons to take on the biometal monsters while still having the same creative Horror Tales puzzles.
