Horse Project started as a solo dev's passion project but, over the past couple of months, the development team has grown! With changes in the team, came a visual adjustment to the tech demo, as we learn to work together, and figure out what we can realistically achieve with the experience and resources we have.
We are not professionals, and this is not our full-time job, so we hope you can understand that we are taking our time and learning as we go. For that reason, we also want to welcome your feedback and active participation in the Official Discord ( / discord ) upon this new release. We want to hear what you, the player, think about the tech demo and what you would like to see this horse game become!
No. We likely won't be able to implement everything, or even have the capacity to do so, but we still want to do our best to deliver a fun horse game experience. We'll take your feedback to heart as we move onto the next stage of the development cycle!
The next step for us is the Alpha version, which will introduce the skeleton of Horse Project's gameplay loop 🐎

Guys, I commend you on the MASSIVE improvement in performance! The game now runs smooth as butter, though I would love an option to turn off motion blur. The animations need work, mostly because they are a bit jittery, but overall good job. Very enjoyable for what is just a demo. :D Can't wait to see the full game some day.

Also tip for making foals, don't worry about the stats (because i hope they won't be ridden) but disable breed restrictions and set them to the lowest height. then you can fiddle with the personality and color and stuff!

I also would like to note a bug, when I exit the game, my horses do save, but when I come back, the already-made horses that I deleted before are there in their places again, along with the other horses I made! (so basically there's two horses in one stall and its annoying bc i have to go back and delete them from the stalls and pasture again) Please fix this for the next update! Thx!

Hi! We hear you, the jump is not the best! The horse animations are constantly being worked on and improved behind the scenes, but the Lead Dev is a hobbyist and this is a passion project which means they're learning and evolving alongside it. It may take some time for the jumping animations to feel more fluid :) The devs are super open to constructive feedback over on our Official Discord though! 💚

Yeah, they had me until that. I wish I wasn’t this picky, because it means there’s almost no horse games I can play, but bad animation of their movements kills the whole game for me.

I don’t know what I expected of that jump but I burst out laughing when looking at it. I don’t even know what to compare it to, it’s like a goat prancing over a small obstacle. Did nobody get reference or photos of honestly any mammal doing a bigger jump, let alone a horse? Also the dressage bits look wonky, especially when turning around because the tail model is being held out stiffly when in reality gravity should pull it significantly more down

Y’all it’s made by one person only do u know how hard it is and yes free alphas have ‘freely janky animation’’ I mean it’s called pre alpha. Not even demo or fully alpha stage yet.

Horse body’s look so stiff, the tails look awful, and their movement and way legs look, look just wrong or off. As somebody grew up on small horse farm and owed few horse. RD2 is only game atm that I’ve ever seen that comes close for horses looking and moving right. The only thing they messed up was draft horse were way too small. And kinda messed up on mares too.

Hi! Just to help clarify, Horse Project is being developed by a hobbyist gamedev who is also an equestrian herself! Animation, creation of 3d models and programming is a very difficult process which requires a lot of time, effort and skills. Our Lead Dev tries her best to make and animate the horses as best as possible, but they're still learning! We totally agree that the 3d models and animations in game are far from ideal and there is still a lot of room for improvement, which is why the Pre-Alpha is free and we're asking for constructive feedback 💚 The in-game models and animations have already been changed several times along the way, as the game development progressed and our Lead Dev gained new skills. The content you see now is not final! Red Dead Redemption 2 is a great game that we truly appreciate for it's look, complexity and attention to details! But, it is a AAA game with a budget of nearly 500 million US dollars developed by a game studio with nearly 2k staff members. Thanks to such resourses, developers had the opportiunity to hire the best of the best and use Motion Capture techonology for creating animations, including for the horses (and that's one of the main reasons why they look so good!). Sadly, we don’t have the same amount of resources or experience, but we’re committed to learn and do our best to deliver a fun horse game :)
