Should only have a large o-ring for the filter housing cap. If the small o-ring is yellow then you bought the wrong filter.

It kind of sucks that GM doesn't usea traditional enclosed oil filter. Because of this you cannot fill the filter with oil before you install it, which has been shown to allow the engine to get to proper oil pressure faster.

Thanks for the pointers, tool sizes and torque specs. That saves me a lot of guessing and research time. Now off to do another oil change for my C7 Z06/Z07. Going to need two jugs of Mobil 1 and a second catch pan for that one. :)

No disrespect but only changing oil once a year or 15k miles is I'll advised. You already made a good case how you can do a $30 oil and filter change. Now, $30 certainly constitutes a more frequent oil change considering price. I have a small fleet of trucks for my service business. I use a blend in service vehicles to save a few bucks every 5k mile and always new filter. 4 personal vehicles I use full synthetic and change every 7500. I've also been using Synthetics since available on retail market. I was using synthetic oils before then in th US Army as an Abrams Tanker. We ran exclusively Synthetic because of high Temps and friction reduction. I'm sure at that time it's p rice kept it off retail market. Btw, I use full synthetics in my farm equipment and anything else that says it's OK which is everything. In the course of many years, I have never had an engine failure . I have sold, trade or kept a lot of especially service vehicles with 300-450k and still running. Soooo... dont be cheap, change your oil and filter more often, And don't forget also all your other systems requiring oil. Transmission, Differentials, Transfer cases....etc....Always use a Synthetic if applicable. There are many great products on market. Seems like a small price especially these days when you pay 40-100k on a new vehicle. Again, just my opinion. You know the rest. Thanks for your channel!!
@mattp.73186 ай бұрын
100% agree. But don't be cheap and run blend to save a few bucks while you're touting changing your oil because it's cheap insurance. Just use full synth. It's even better cheap insurance.

Cheap oil filter for a synthetic oil. I'm a Amsoil dealer only use them You can go 25k on the oil or a yr. Amsoil filters are 20 micron filtration. Gm filters are 40-50
@HorsePowerObsessed3 жыл бұрын
Better filtration also limits flow. GM also has a very specific bypass valve that most aftermarket manufacturers aren't using.
@cr99533 жыл бұрын
Bypass valve is present in most performance filters, Including Amsoils. Better filtration oil stays cleaner longer. Before you change to a full Syn add a flush to the oil to prep it for the syn. Otherwise if any sludge present you will cause issue's. You also man want to run 0w30 in winter months for better cold starts. W means winter. I usually run 0w30 year round since I do once a year. Mobil 1 is # 2 to Amsoil. I only own chevys and will not use any GM fluid in anything. The transmission fluid is the worst
@HorsePowerObsessed3 жыл бұрын
The bypass valve is available in all filters but it's specific in a GM filter to be 22 PSI whereas the rest of the aftermarket filters are typically somewhere around 15.

I have a 2015 and follow the oil life indicator (GM is rock solid in its algorithm for this). I was surprised to find out at 2% life left it had only hit around 4400 miles this first time I did it, thinking I should be able to hit 5K-7K miles (full synthetic). So I sent in the oil to be tested the next two times. Results came back rock solid. It's been running strong all these years and has about 85K miles on it. I am also in PA so a lot of cold starts (which the sensor takes into account) so of course my "expected" oil life is higher than actual.
