Hi Jim. Can you share an update on this little honey oakleaf? Would love to see if it has grown since planted. Thank you

I got two rooted cutting in 4 inch pots for $9 .00 each on sale & I google it & got your video. I am in zone 8a & like your delivery, so I subscribed.

Jim, the best pollinator I had this year was Lucifer Crocosmia. It was always full of bees, hummingbirds and butterflies.

I found two sources for this. Hirt's has them for $9.99, but they're tiny 4 inch pots, so not great if you're in a hurry. Wilson Bros has much larger ones. They're pricey, but at least the shipping is included. Please note that both of these places ship immediately, so depending where you live that may not be a good thing. I went ahead and ordered because I figured by March there would be none left. In PA, so hoping the shrub will get here okay, then I'll just need to keep it alive for two months until the ground unfreezes.

I love this plant but it took me 4 years to find one as it was always out of stock online and it is not usually carried by our local nurseries. Anyway, mine has been in the ground since last autumn and it is just beautiful. As Jim says, a 4 season plant!

Is there a link/ website if anyone wishes to buy this plant.
@mariasmith64383 жыл бұрын
@@jackieb1677 Maybe you can do a special order with your local nursery, otherwise you will have to do some online hunting to find it. Mrmaple has it listed in their inventory but it is currently out of stock.

It is hard to find! I had to order a tiny baby in a 4" pot several years ago and it performed beautifully! Keep searching the internet, may be in spring.... Good luck!

I found my Little Honey Oakleaf Hydrangea at Sooner Plant Farm in Oklahoma where I got my Flamethrower Redbud. They have a wide variety of plants.

my neighbor gave me a small planting of an oakleaf hydrangea that I ended up planting on the front corner of the house; that was about 5 years ago it is now 6' wide x 6' tall, the flowers are the same color as the one you are planting. The deer use to love it but now they don't bother it at all.

I love this plant but I’m getting ready to move mine. I’m in zone 8, north of Portland Oregon. I planted it in a pretty full sun location as per the tag, in front of an osmathus burkwoodii hedge. It’s constantly stressed and on the verge of scorching. I have extremely sandy soil, so I have no doubt hydration is an issue. As I’ve learned in the years since planting it, take the tag info with a grain of salt. It’s doing something interesting that none of my other hydrangeas have done. It has spread under the osmanthus. After the second year new shoots started popping up under the protection of the hedge. It hasn’t traveled far, less than 2ft from the original plant. There’s nothing in front of it. It chose to move toward the root competition of an extremely well established hedge to be in less sun. I think it’ll be much happier in the part sun, open woodland garden I’m developing in another part of my yard

This one is hard to find. But i have a nice 6 x 6 one in my landscape. The front side is exposed to sun and completely yellow. The front does get a little crispy by mid summer. The back side is green but it is one of my favorites. It is a very lovely addition to my garden.

Hey there, I had to go back and see the “before” of your new property! 18 months and it looks like years! We are battling the same ivy issue the big ole oak and surrounding area of your home has. What did you do to eradicate the ivy? If this is a consulting thing let me know an email to make a request! Thank you ahead!

I like all hydrangeas but oakleaf is my favorite. I bought and planted one once and did absolutely everything wrong, moved it twice in one year, pruned it too hard, planted in too much shade, planted too deep in clay soil and often forgot to water it. In spite of the abuse, it survived almost 2 years. I haven't had the heart to try again but this video has shown exactly what to do so the plant would survive. That's what I like about your channel! 🙂👍💖

Lucked out and found two of these at a local nursery early in the season when they looked ratty and half dead. Owner knocked a couple bucks off of the price for me. Then they bloomed out and looked fantastic. Definitely one of my favorites this year.

I know this is an older video but I hope you see it. I have some six to seven feet tall. So it's not the same as the honey but it looks like it. It has rooted everywhere. It was on our property when we bought it but it's on the back side of the land. I really didn't know what it was so I didn't really look closely at it until today. I researched it with a picture I took of it. I'm going to try and get a couple if possible. I'm wondering if I can put it in a large pot for a few years? It is a oakleaf but there's many. Thanks.

Really pretty leaf color on this one. I have some unknown oak leafs that are side by side. One must be getting too much sun because it tends to brown up pretty quick. It’s big now so I’m not sure if I should move it.

I have Little Honey. I am very, very deep south --- zone 8b & almost in 9. The flowers on mine flop way over & brown up pretty quickly. But I didn't buy it for the flowers but for the beautiful yellow foliage.

Jim, I have several different kinds of hydrangeas in my yard that have bloomed every year but this one. There is not a single bloom on any of them. Do you think the heat has anything to do with that? They are on the East and North sides of the house.

Got a Vaughns lily variety of oakleaf - planted it in a spot that gets sun from about 3-5pm and is shaded the rest of the day. I'm in Raleigh, but do you think that would be too much direct afternoon sun? I thought with it being a plant that can tolerate full sun that it would be OK, but seems that's mostly for the cold areas. It seems to be happy so far but it's only been a week.

Hey Jim! I'd like to use this hydrangea next to my house. Zone 8a in clay soil, the location I'm thinking of gets only half day of sun as it's on the East side of my house. The area I want to fill is roughly 3' wide x 3' deep x 4' tall. Would this beautiful specimen work?

Mine gets brown spots on the sunny side because but mid summer its gets a little burned. But it wont hurt it. If it doesn’t get sun then it turns green. My Little Honey is 1/2 in the sun and 1/2 in the shade so one side green and one side yellow.
