In regards to splinter groups best you study the multitude of factions within your own catholic denominations. And best study the factions in the original churches such as in 1st Corinthians chapters 1, 2 and 3. One seems right in his own eyes until he is cross examined. Perhaps its time you cross examined your catholic church for once. I'll trust in the word made flesh for salvation and you trust in the catholic church for salvation. Drahcir First, this is not the theme we were talking about. We were talking about how manny pagan legends and cultures have floods in them. You said manny, and both of us mentioned somwhere around 4. Considering that there are hundreds of cultures, this is very little. Not to mention, that Hawaii is surrounded by sea, which means that it will play big part in their culture already. You straying away from theme, that we were talking about with an argument, that doesn't prove existence of your belief, but it it does prove that you don't have much of a substance. But alright, I will play along. And what makes you think i should trust it more, if it was made out of clay by some Thing? Nothing more than bunch of chemicals? These chemicals make up a living and breathing organism, have found a way to store the information of an entire human being in the DNA and make an immune system with responses to billions of possible harmful substances. The more you know about the biochemical processes in your body the more amazed you are with natures capabilities. I trust my own thoughts because I know that evolution has led to the development of an amazing system capable of rational thought and understanding of ideas that go far beyond what the eyes can see. And yes, there are sometimes malfunctions. Seizures, illness, psychosis, etc. Chemicals such as alcohol, THC and other drugs can alter your thinking process and you shouldn't trust your thoughts while on those. But other than that, nature has amazing capabilities and I trust, that evolution wouldn't have led to a brain this complex if that wasn't the most trustworthy storage of information it could come up with. So, can I trust my own thoughts? Do I have a free willl, without existence of some God? Actually, YES! Brain is deciding for itself, if the brain itself is a result of these genes and everything else that compose it, then that means the only one influencing its decisions is its own being. In other words it is choosing freely of anything other than itself how it is expressed, how it attains its goals, it is capable of recognizing it has options and choosing which one to go after.Then the only thing influencing its decision is none other than itself. Not only that, but the brain can even reason with itself. Everything happens for a reason. The brain, through reasoning is altering its own perception, its own point of view. Nothing else but the brain can do so, and nothing else but the brain is in control. Again you point to influencing genes and chemicals, but all that does is enable the functions, enables self, enables reason, enables the power to choose (willpower). That doesn't change the fact that a self is reasoning and choosing. We may not have gotten to choose the starting point, but we do choose everything from the starting point. We ARE the brain that is deciding and we can decide to go as far as to even alter our own point of perception which is akin to altering ourselves because perception is everything. So I guess I would have to see I believe in free will with some limits. Limit being, I have to choose and that I must operate within my perception of reality. But within the perception of reality, my choice is my own. Since it is MY perception and I am my perception, nothing other than me is making the decision for me. Even you say in your perception of reality where you do not have free will the illusion persists. If that illusion has the same longevity as your existence, it is not an illusion. It is reality. It is the same as how you tell the difference from a dream and the real world when you are awake. Consistency, you wake up from the dream over and over again to a consistent reality with consistent physics, you remember it and you know it is the same. That consistency causes you to conclude that the inconsistent dream states must be a sub-reality within your greater reality. Genes and environment provide a makeup, they are not some separate entity forcing you to decide. Just because of what the brain is made of, is not a good enough reason to doubt it's use. Your navigation is made of just some electronics and plastics, but you still trust it to take you wherever you need to go. For that matter, argument neurons are forcing me to do something, is not gonna work eighter. In scientific terms is just the 'dopamine neuron' influencing your choices. That's all. The neuron is not something ULTRA CELESTIAL BEING slaving you to do this or that. That's nonsense as Its finest. This simply doesn't work. When science uses "neurons decided for you before you", was your subconscious feelings (dopamine neuron as an example) influencing your choices. For example. There is a chocolate cake and a Tea, your dopamine neuron will be like "CHOOSE CHOCOLATE", and you'll choose chocolate, because It is good (boost dopamine and release stres) and tea has nothing to offer but bad tasty. Yes, normal, but you can still choose tea, but will be hard, but for more people will be easy, because they have less stress and more will power to choose tea. Like any guy who is addicted to cocaine, he can still choose to not choose cocaine, but he will be depressed. But for other people will be easy, as they have more will power and less anxiety. So, yes, the subconscious influence our choices. Even though, we can still control our subconscious with many techniques, even MDMA can change subconscious. so It's useful to spread this information... because people will be more aware of this, and will be more easy to avoid the subconscious influences. When people consider the imaginary to be real, then their thinking and reasoning has become debased from the source of truth, sensible reality. It's not about the existence of God, it's about ascribing to an imaginary thing, reality, and using that to think and live. For example, Jesus supposedly says the greatest commandment is to love God with all one's heart and strength or some such. The thing is, the nature of love is that it cannot be commanded to be, or to cease. If you love someone, my telling you to not love them cannot change the reality of your heart, your love will remain, as it should. Similarly my or anyone telling you to love someone, when you don't, will not change the condition of your heart. This is because our disposition toward others is not something to be determined by a command but by reality. The prime rule if one is to live by truth would be to treat all things according to what they are. Commanded love is a contradiction to the nature of love. That's one of the things infallible Gods and their progeny are needed for ... to justify, lift up and enshrine beyond true to reality examination, things that are unnatural. (It's not just religions that do this!) Societal lifting up and 'enshrining' as true beyond criticism can also happen with the virtual deification of certain knowledge because it is from such supposedly 'brilliant' scientists e.g. Darwin, Einstein, Newton ... or historical narratives such as Auschwitz. If things are beyond open honest holding up to the light of reality via questions and discussion, then it there is likely something 'wrong' for: In reality we live and move and have our being. It's rules or laws are consistent and determine all things. They self enforce and cannot be broken ... unlike artificial laws and unnatural laws which are not laws but mere proxies speaking the imaginings of false truth. Any law or way of reality can be interrogated as intently as possible and all that results is the deeper and truer revelation of it BUT when some imaginary shadow is interrogated using the laws or ways of nature then it is shown to be nothing in reality for the light reveals it's lack of substance and reveals that the shadow pretending to be substance was a lie. Easy. Start with the fact that pretty much only English and German use "Easter" or a related word, and it's pretty easy to see that this even if the word derivation hypothesis is completely true, it's irrelevant to the core Christian doctrines related to Easter. If anything, Easter is a co-opting of Passover. Look at the name of the feast in languages closer to the origins of Christianity. Consider the fact that the date of Easter is pegged to Passover. The writers of the New Testament documents even refer to Jesus as the Passover lamb. It's clear from the writings of the early Fathers that where Christianity derives from another religion, it strictly from Judaism.

They know people will be shy not to pay or tend to pay more when others could be watching. He noted that the similarities didn't all happen in the same geographical locations and in the same order, unlike the parallels in the histories of Josephus Flavius and the Gospels having parallels between Titus Flavius and Jesus Christ. I had a professor teach that December 25 was chosen because of the festival of sol invictus. Which is a crazy assertion because the earliest attestation of Christmas being celebrated and the festival being celebrated on the 25th comes from the same source. The festival had also been celebrated on other days in the past which suggests that it was the pagans trying to compete with the Christians that changed the date not the other way around.

There's two REAL reasons why we celebrate Christ's birth on December 25: First, based on historical data in the Bible the Roman church deduced that Christ died on March 25; the doctrine of the day was that martyrs died on the day they were conceived and December 25 just happens to be 9 months after March 25. Granted, the whole death-conception theory has no basis, however it DOES disprove your false paradigm. Second, based on historical data found in the Bible, scholars deduced that Zachariah (John the Baptist's father for those who don't know) was serving in the Temple in late September when he was informed his wife was with child. According to the Bible, six months later (late March) Mary came to their home pregnant; which would make her delivery sometime in late December.

Actually there are 2 dates that it could be because it depends on whether Zacharias was serving in the first or second division. But as I stated before it is not worth bending yourself in knots because, imo, its not what the celebration of Christmas started off as but how it ended up.
