Two things strike me about this scene: -when Todd and Janelle mention the 800 swinging by earlier, you could see the micro calculations the 1000 is making in that instance about how to answer them without arousing suspicion (great acting by Robert Patrick) -the 1000 is an advanced prototype over the 800 not only in physical strength and abilities but also in infiltration and how to deal with humans; you can see that he acts more naturally than the 800 does but there’s still something off or not quite right about him which shows the limit of Skynet’s programming (again, great acting by Robert Patrick) One bonus observation. The studio put a lot of pressure on James Cameron to cast an even bigger bodybuilding type than Arnold as the 1000 but Cameron resisted. He said the 1000 is an advanced more sleeker model over the 800 so while the 800 is a tank, the 1000 should be a Porsche. Well done, James Cameron.

Actually, the T-1000 can feel emotions. That's why Skynet rendered the T-1000 obsolete, for fear that it would turn against Skynet. That's also why most Terminator's CPUs are set to "read only". Meaning that they can imitate the behaviors of other people, but they do not have a personality to call their own. The T-1000, along with the T-X, is set to "read/write". Meaning that they can imitate other behaviors and improvise on those behaviors. Granting them the ability to understand, and even feel, emotions. If you pay attention, you may notice instances where the T-1000 shows emotions such as fear, frustration, amusement, and possibly satisfaction. I don't know for certain, but I think that may be why you never see a T-1000 in the "future war" scenes. Because Skynet only used one.

The only CGI part of the t800 doing his tuck/roll at the end of the tanker chase scene showed us parkour 30 years in advance of us understanding that type of technique world wide via the internet. It also projected a false sense of security to the audience because up to this point of the movie, no one knew who was supposed to be John's protector. And given Arnie's role in T1, you'd expect Robert Patrick's character to be that.
@americancrimejournal2 жыл бұрын
Actually there is a bit of humor to it, however, the in both the script and novelization, the T-1000 was not aware John Connor had a protector as the T-1000 was an advanced prototype sent just moments after the original T-800 and Kyle Reese went through the Time Displacement Equipment. The T-1000 was never linked up to the "Sky Net"work, as SkyNet feared it would learn just how powerful it was. The T-1000 had little to no knowledge of how a T-800 operates. The first scene that displays this is when they first engage in the mall. T-1000 simply empties a clip into the T-800 as of it would dispatch him. When it didn't, the T-1000 grabbed the shotgun as if he was stripping it from some human and, the T-1000 goes to toss the T-800 around like a rag doll... that's when the T-800 jerked back and tightened his grip on the shotgun, that's the moment the T-1000 knew it wasn't dealing with a human and the started busting down walls. The second scene is when the T-1000 thought it dispatches the T-800 by bashing it with the 40000lb manual lock and then runs a piece of steel through what he thought was the power core. He has no knowledge of the T-800s ability to reroute power and survive.

Yeah, you can see the ambiguity as to who the hero is up to the first encounter in the Galleria back corridor. But there is a pretty obvious give away early on. Upon arrival, T800 doesn't kill any of the bikers to obtain clothes, weapons and transport. Whereas T1000 kills a cop immediately and assumes his credentials to begin infiltrating. Compared to the first film, we didn't know which out of terminator or Reese was the hero, except for the hint that terminator kills the punks (and the gun store guy), whereas Reese escapes the police chase without harming any of the officers. Killing (and combat) is nothing to all 4 characters but their choice of how to act speak louder volumes about their intentions.
@davidcolantuono36222 жыл бұрын
@C We don't know for sure if he actually killed the police officer upon his arrival. Well, at least, I didn't know when I saw the film. Since I never saw the trailers for Terminator 2: Judgment Day, for all I knew, the T-1000 could have simply knocked out the officer and stolen his clothes. Look at the scene again when he "kills" the police officer. There is no blood. Had he killed him with that arm blade of his (as he does with other victims later on), blood would have been seen pouring out. To me, it just looked like the T-1000 knocked out the officer with a well-aimed punch. Thus, it was difficult to tell which Terminator was the bad one until the surprise reveal at the Galleria.

Mighty fine acting by Robert Patrick here (and by his character). The way he switches from an emotionless terminator to seem like a normal police officer around John's foster parents, then how he acts when he learns about the T-800's arrival. We need more actors like this man.

I love that line, "She claims a machine called 'The Terminator' was sent back in time to kill her. It looks just like a human of course, hahaha...." Hilarious. Reminds me of the shot when Patrick glances at the plastic fake metal manaquin, taking just a moment to verify it's not another T-1000.

@@borris3768 hey, I get what you mean. But it does actually show a very strong female character. Sarah definitely is no shrinking violet.😳 And it is nice to see that here. In addition, I think that's why I always love most of the female characters in George Lucas movies: Princess Leia in Star Wars A New Hope and Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark. They were tough, smart, wisecracking women who didn't take any shit from anyone. So, yeah, I do hate bringing genders into any movie. However, you have to look at these strong women characters because, back in the early cinema days, there were a lot of women who had to be saved by big, strong, he - man types. So, in that sense, it was and still is, good to see a strong female character portrayed instead of a weak, vulnerable, and sometimes even stupid female who could in no way defend herself. That's my take on it anyway.🤷♀️
