Two things strike me about this scene: -when Todd and Janelle mention the 800 swinging by earlier, you could see the micro calculations the 1000 is making in that instance about how to answer them without arousing suspicion (great acting by Robert Patrick) -the 1000 is an advanced prototype over the 800 not only in physical strength and abilities but also in infiltration and how to deal with humans; you can see that he acts more naturally than the 800 does but there’s still something off or not quite right about him which shows the limit of Skynet’s programming (again, great acting by Robert Patrick) One bonus observation. The studio put a lot of pressure on James Cameron to cast an even bigger bodybuilding type than Arnold as the 1000 but Cameron resisted. He said the 1000 is an advanced more sleeker model over the 800 so while the 800 is a tank, the 1000 should be a Porsche. Well done, James Cameron.

I said something similar regarding the advanced model terminator in Dark Fate, people complained the character appeared too bland, normal, unremarkable. But that is what you would want in an infiltration machine. It should blend in.

Actually, the T-1000 can feel emotions. That's why Skynet rendered the T-1000 obsolete, for fear that it would turn against Skynet. That's also why most Terminator's CPUs are set to "read only". Meaning that they can imitate the behaviors of other people, but they do not have a personality to call their own. The T-1000, along with the T-X, is set to "read/write". Meaning that they can imitate other behaviors and improvise on those behaviors. Granting them the ability to understand, and even feel, emotions. If you pay attention, you may notice instances where the T-1000 shows emotions such as fear, frustration, amusement, and possibly satisfaction. I don't know for certain, but I think that may be why you never see a T-1000 in the "future war" scenes. Because Skynet only used one.

Yes, the point is that during this time in a movie, we still didnt know which one of the two is there to kill John and which one to protect him. Since Arnie was the big bulky bad guy in the first movie, and the guardian was thiner, more agile protagonist, we were led to believe that T-1000 here in fact is maybe the one to protect him. Not untill the hallway scene do we actually find out which one protec and which one attac.

I'm 32 years old & am a defensive tactics instructor & an American Ninia Warrior/Gymnastics coach. The body mechanics in this movie are truly amazing. Even though they are terminators, James Cameron shows precise decisions that any athletic human should and would make to preserve one's organism. The only CGI part of the t800 doing his tuck/roll at the end of the tanker chase scene showed us parkour 30 years in advance of us understanding that type of technique world wide via the internet. There are so many subtleties of tactical intelligence performed in this movie, most of which without CGI, that should show us humans what we are capable of. Or T-1000 cannot know if it's another terminator model or just a human (someone like Kyle)? The fights later on and I remember a Cameron's interview revealed that the T-1000 didn't know anything about the T-800 that's why it had trouble dealing with the T-800 properly.

@americancrimejournal
@americancrimejournal 2 жыл бұрын
Actually there is a bit of humor to it, however, the in both the script and novelization, the T-1000 was not aware John Connor had a protector as the T-1000 was an advanced prototype sent just moments after the original T-800 and Kyle Reese went through the Time Displacement Equipment. The T-1000 was never linked up to the "Sky Net"work, as SkyNet feared it would learn just how powerful it was. The T-1000 had little to no knowledge of how a T-800 operates. The first scene that displays this is when they first engage in the mall. T-1000 simply empties a clip into the T-800 as of it would dispatch him. When it didn't, the T-1000 grabbed the shotgun as if he was stripping it from some human and, the T-1000 goes to toss the T-800 around like a rag doll... that's when the T-800 jerked back and tightened his grip on the shotgun, that's the moment the T-1000 knew it wasn't dealing with a human and the started busting down walls. The second scene is when the T-1000 thought it dispatches the T-800 by bashing it with the 40000lb manual lock and then runs a piece of steel through what he thought was the power core. He has no knowledge of the T-800s ability to reroute power and survive.

That's why I wish they would have kept this scene in. Actually, I wish they would have kept ALL of the finished deleted scenes in! ESPECIALLY the one of the T-1000 malfunctioning after getting frozen, blown up, and reforming, since it showed us how John Connor was able to figure out which one was the real Sarah Connor and which was one the the T-1000 in disguise. Because that scene was deleted, every time I watch the movie I had no idea how John could have possibly figured it out!!! I hate that James Cameron's masterpiece got chopped up just so some suits could make more $$$ (the vast majority of the completed deleted scenes were cut because of concerns of how long the movie was, and that a longer runtime means fewer showings in a day which = less $$$

There’s also another moment later where the guy who first hit her with the billy club is strapping her into her bed for the night (right before she makes her escape) and, seeing her in an apparent catatonic state, licks her cheek to see if she reacts, heavily implying that she’s been sexually abused too. I don’t know if that moment was in the theatrical version or not, though (the first few times I ever saw this movie was on TV, and that moment was cut, but I don’t know if that was because it was deemed inappropriate for TV, or if it was because it wasn’t in the theatrical version at all). But, seeing it certainly made me feel a lot less sorry for him when she bashed his face and broke his nose with the broom handle.

"Thanks for your cooperation." And, this is why I originally thought that the T-1000 was John's protector while the Terminator was the bad guy, as he was in the first film in 1984. Here, the T-1000 was so friendly and polite. I had no idea at this point in the film that he was the bad guy. It wasn't until a certain scene at the Galleria mall...which I won't spoil for everyone else. Who knew at this point that he would end up being the bad guy?
@therealmistahjay
@therealmistahjay 3 жыл бұрын
That was the point. The assumption was that he was the good guy as Arnold was the villain in the original. Yeah, you can see the ambiguity as to who the hero is up to the first encounter in the Galleria back corridor. But there is a pretty obvious give away early on. Upon arrival, T800 doesn't kill any of the bikers to obtain clothes, weapons and transport. Whereas T1000 kills a cop immediately and assumes his credentials to begin infiltrating. Compared to the first film, we didn't know which out of terminator or Reese was the hero, except for the hint that terminator kills the punks (and the gun store guy), whereas Reese escapes the police chase without harming any of the officers. Killing (and combat) is nothing to all 4 characters but their choice of how to act speak louder volumes about their intentions.
@davidcolantuono3622
@davidcolantuono3622 2 жыл бұрын
@C We don't know for sure if he actually killed the police officer upon his arrival. Well, at least, I didn't know when I saw the film. Since I never saw the trailers for Terminator 2: Judgment Day, for all I knew, the T-1000 could have simply knocked out the officer and stolen his clothes. Look at the scene again when he "kills" the police officer. There is no blood. Had he killed him with that arm blade of his (as he does with other victims later on), blood would have been seen pouring out. To me, it just looked like the T-1000 knocked out the officer with a well-aimed punch. Thus, it was difficult to tell which Terminator was the bad one until the surprise reveal at the Galleria.

This conversation right here is what makes the T-1000 so damn terrifying. He presents so well, he has great social skills, he's confident, adaptive and shows incredible charisma... And then underneath all of that, he's an assassin designed and programmed to kill. You wouldn't suspect him in a crowd of a million, and that's a horrifying thought.

To add even more to the paranoia fuel. He can be everyone, your nice neighbor you always had a nice cup of tea with, your teacher, classmate, friend, even the floor, or the mirror, everyone and many things and if you know about his skills and know he could be everyone, you cannot trust anybody again, you are alone, you need to survive, you need to be on the run constantly. They were tough, smart, wisecracking women who didn't take any shit from anyone. So, yeah, I do hate bringing genders into any movie. However, you have to look at these strong women characters because, back in the early cinema days, there were a lot of women who had to be saved by big, strong, he - man types. I think that Robert Patrick is real human...

Simply Now The actor is human of course but I’m talking about how he acts in the movie because he is not a human in the movie. He is a more advanced terminator.

robert patrick is so underrated as the t-1000, particularly when acting human here, interacting with the guardians of john who are just normal people. no excessive facial expression from the t-1000, no awkward silence, the conversation is flowing "well" but almost "robotic" what an achievement this film was

Literally everyone praises Patrick's performance as the T-1000. He is the opposite of underrated.

My parents had this movie on VHS when I was a kid. With 8 years I thought "Terminator sounds somehow awesome", so I startet watching the whole movie while my parents where at work. I will never forget, how the T-1000 scared the shit out of me. I wish I could turn back time and do that again!

Truly amazing performance. Think about how hard it has to be to make yourself the most intimidating person on the screen next to Arnold playing the Terminator. Yet this guy was way more terrifying

This was one of the best film-watching experiences I ever had. Great story, great characters, great action, great special effects, and a great genre of sci-fi entertainment. Great theatrical experience.

"No, I wouldn't worry about him" - The way Robert Patrick delivers that line is awesome! Like an actual machine trying to process that Information. What an awesome actor.
