Check out this video I did on The Race of Gentlemen, an event that brings back the golden era of vintage drag racing in modern-day California. This awesome event started on the beach in Asbury Park, New Jersey, in 2012 and has now made its way to the West Coast. Mel Stultz, the mastermind behind it all, found the perfect spot at Flabob Airport in Jurupa Valley, just 60 miles east of Los Angeles.
Join me in this video as we explore the thrilling event at Flabob Airport's auxiliary runway turned dragstrip, complete with a beautiful backdrop of vintage airplanes, palm trees, and clear blue skies. You'll see over 100 incredible vintage hot rods racing, revving, and being worked on!
It's so cool to see that drag racing, which has roots in California dating back to the 1930s, is still alive and kicking today.
The Race of Gentlemen truly captures the spirit of hot-rodding and pays homage to its early days. Thanks to Mel Stultz, this video offers a fantastic opportunity to step back in time and experience hot-rodding as it once was.

There was a DC3 and a C47 in this one, the silver one is the DC3, the green/olive one is the C47, essentially the same plane but one is military. What surprised me was the Bearcat doing the flyby. Watching the Stearmans flying Vics is sweet.

That is some great documentation for the kids of the future Ben.. the only thing keeping guys your age out of hotrods like that is because the old guys with money have driven the cost of them up. Just like the boomers did with muscle cars when I was your age, didn't stop me from getting some ratty GTOs and Trans Ams. Sure a nice one brings lots of money, but even now the really rough ones can be had for cheap. You just have to rebuild it, like they did with roadsters before and right after the war. It was the junk nobody else wanted that they built. I got my pre war hotrod too.. 1932 Pontiac two door sedan.. its VERY rough but most of the body is there. Traded a very rusty 64 Fairlane 500 and a non running 74 F150 for it. Will be dragging it into my shop later this year, but I need to get the Mustang and Cutlass done.

Hey Ben awesome video! Have you ever thought about doing a piece of old-timer's giving advice to the new hot rodding generation? What their concerns are and advice? I don't think there's many young people into older cars these days and would love to see what people have to say. Cheers!

That's a great idea! Hot rodding is a dying art for sure. Especially metalwork, fab, paint and body, etc. I love building and modifying hot rods. I'm not that young, but I just turned 40. I do everything but paint and body. None of my friends my age or younger have the patience for it anymore. The ones that used to be into it have given up:( I have to mention that there are some real "pieces of work" here where I live in the south/east coast who do people very wrong with paint/body. It surely doesn't help recruit new guys and gals to the hobby.
