It's the sort of movies they used to make in the 80s and 90s - but somehow managed to use CGI to enhance it, instead of destroy it. The way they talk too is brave, it's comic like but somehow seems gritty and realistic. This is an absolute masterpiece and they got it so right.

The best part about this scene is that Dredd did not approach the situation with his gun trained on the criminal. It was to his side and he was speaking in an even calm tone. If i was the criminal then i'd choose death too, even if it was by means of "hot shot". You want redemption? Give him a few years in prison and then let him back out. I think it's a magnesium shell meant to burn through solid metal obstacles or damage high-impact armor. Provided I'm right it can feasibly melt its way through an engine block killing a vehicle with one shot. And he used it against a soft meaty skull. It was not instant and it was not painless. I can only assume the Geneva convention means dick in this world because using such a shell on a human target would be 5 different kinds of illegal along the lines of War Crimes IRL. Same with the incendiary shot he uses in Peach Trees. However, I am sure that was using phosphorus and therefore WAY WAY WORSE!!! Why you may ask? (rhetorically speaking) Because of splash damage and that it causes horrific injuries without the intent to kill. Again IRL, Very Very Illegal. My point: This world must be next level messed up to allow such weaponry to be used at all let alone be made available to a Street Judge for regular use. This is one Sci-fi world I want nothing to do with save for watching Dredd mess up criminals.

@@doceideer7993 I like the magnesium idea, but I'm not sure how that'd work. If you lodged the round in solid metal, relatively little of the surface area of the round would be exposed to oxygen to make it burn. Plus, based on the fact that it didn't exit the back of the perp's skull, it seems like it doesn't have much in the way of penetration power, so I'm not sure what good it'd be against heavy metal targets. I agree these definitely constitute crimes against humanity. However, in the context of the Dredd universe, the perp was a Bad Guy who definitely deserved to have his skull melted from the inside. 😉

imagine a hero walking into a dangerous area with an armed barricaded suspect instead of waiting 45 min and arresting anyone who tries to go in there to stop them. maybe dredd is a utopia, not a dystopia, and we're actually living in something worse already.

A common misconception. RESYK actually breaks down the bodies for use in hydroponics and other areas. They fertilize crops with their dead, not eat them. Beats cremation any day if you ask me.

I wonder if rhe writer/director took alot of inspiration from robocop 1 (not a bad idea). I notice dredd never really runs (except for the gatlin scene). And this scene reminds me alot of the robocop stand off with the girl. I def like that dredd is never in a rush makes it feel like hes always in control.
@greva2904
@greva2904 2 жыл бұрын
Robocop was to an extent influenced by the original Judge Dredd strip in 2000ad, especially the dark sense of humour, the over the top society and all the irony. The makers of Robocop were definitely aware of Dredd at the time, I think they might even have mentioned it

It's clearly in the exposition that there is so much crime that the judges can only respond to about 5% of calls.
@carlbates9110

It’s established that Judges can’t respond to the majority of crimes that happen and so only choose a handful of them to prioritize. These guys just happened to get Dredd’s attention because they were causing a scene on the highway.

Maybe something to do with instinctive reactions? The Hotshot puts them into shock and freezes them up whilst Regular might cause a flinch where he pulls the trigger?
@DaveDexterMusic
@DaveDexterMusic 2 жыл бұрын
@@variousnumber891 If anything's going to make you instinctively squeeze a trigger, it's a flare into the middle of your brain. I figure it's meant as a way for him to select an ammo type without alerting the criminal, but then it's not like Dredd wouldn't have regular bullets ready to go in that situation. Verdict: it's just to make Dredd badass and ruthless, and I am ok with that.
