Wiltshire Man

2 жыл бұрын

An Early Spring time Camp in a decidous woodland known as "Pickerings wood". Thats not it's real name, I can't give that away as it is on private land and only infrequently visited, so I am lucky to camp here on occasions.
I slept in my OneTigris Iron wall tent with my Woods walker titanium folding stove for warmth.
Lighting was my lovely old Fuerhand baby 265 Hurricane lantern.
I filmed a nighlapse using my Gopro Hero 7 black and photo's were taken using my Nikon D7500 Dslr.
The video clips were filmed using a Sony A6400 and stock lens.
Thanks for watching and hope to see you on the next one.
Sandy

Thanks again. My Dad introduced me to motorcycling at the age of 5. I have always had motorcycles and had my 70th birthday three weeks ago. I still use some of the tools he had as an engineer tool maker. I think of him and my mother most days. They never had much money but certainly gave me a love of the simple things in life

We are of that generation, that very past, I never saw Dad stop.. only when to dark to garden anymore, never off work, out of a job.. but the end, same we never went short, mum having some cleaning jobs helped out. I only ever know a BSA Gold flash & sidecar growing up, I was first to have a car.. Later came my motorbikes..

What a fitting tribute to your dad his heart would be bursting with pride to have such a son. Lovely woodland there. There are times I miss Wiltshire when I get country air in my nose and remember days as a boy cycling around, camping, watching wildlife all on Lardy cake and paste sandwiches and pop. I could cycle to see Grandma in Radstock, camp in her garden and set off home the next day. I enjoy the hills of Lancashire now and 5o years later look back in fondness. Great video Sandy, thanks for sharing.

@@WiltshireMan there is Sandy. I live in the Forest of Bowland an area of outstanding natural beauty which has peaks as high as neighbouring Pendle Hill. The Ribble Valley offers windy roads with old towns and villages and the coastline offers the noisy Blackpool and more refined Southport and Morecambe with a more distinct Edwardian flavour. As a great centre for industrial heritage from mining to heavy metal works and the old weaver Sheds and mills, it's a living history lesson. Sadly many of the Weaving Sheds are gone now- Nelson has the last and Queen Street Mill is the last existing steam powered mill. It's a museum now in Harle Syke Burnley.

I understand your love for your Father and fond memories of getting that lantern with him so many years ago. I have similar memories of my Father, who passed away in 1986 when he was 52 from a massive heart attack. I was 32 at the time. I will be 69 in February. I lost my wife of 46 years in June 2022, and will never live long enough to recover from losing her .My oldest dog passed 2 months after my wife. I believe he mourned himself to death because he loved her and couldn’t get over her not being home. I watch videos such as yours to ease my mind. Thank you for always providing great videos Sir.

Hi Mike I'm sorry to hear your story, you have lost some special people, but in life we all oneday have to face this.In some ways it is easier and who know's maybe better for those who have departed. There's a lot of pain and suffering down here on "The Good Earth", I hope you are able to find times of joy. I now look back with fondness at my dogs and family that are no longer here and am grateful to have been a part of their lives. Try not to allow grief to blind you, it has it's purpose but there will be good times to come still. Sandy

Always enjoy the vids Sandy. They always offer up the same calm , thorough ,attention to detail and quality that your knife making does. There's no posturing, no bravado, nothing showy or flash ... just an end result, with every stage formed from quality and calm proficiency... Thanks Sandy. This kind of vid is the closest I have been able to get to getting anywhere near to 'out there' , in any way, for best part of four years now, so I really bl##dy enjoy them. Love the link with the lamp and what it means to you. I have some of my grandfather's , and my dad's tools and such, grandad was a bit of a 'divil' , bless him. My dad, like yours was a wonderful man, truly my main hero throupout my life. Some of the tools and items are beyond use now... but ... they're still there, and will never be disposed of while I breathe out after breathing in ... Cheers mate ... Take care and stay well .

A very relaxing hot tent camp there Sandy. There is no better way to relax than hot tenting, I know I keep saying it but to ne there isn't. Lovely to hear a little about your father and hope much you love and miss him. I feel the same way about mine, it hurts every time I see him knowing I've already lost him.

Another great episode brother. Don't feel bad about starting your fire with lamp oil; in the 1800's cowboys in the American West did the same thing, but if it helps ease your guilt feelings, if you dissect the anatomy of your lighter, when you rolled your finger across the wheel, you used flint and steel.
