Hot Tent Winter Storm Camping - 50CM of Snow (Bereg UP-5 & Fireplace Wood Stove)

My home town Ottawa was forecasted to get a pretty hefty snowfall earlier this week. I decided to pack up my hot tent and head to Marlborough Forest to set up the day before and see how my gear would handle near-blizzard-like conditions. Safe to say everything went about as smoothly as it could have gone. I was able to experience one of the largest single snowfalls in my area of the past decade in a very comfortable fashion. Half a meter of snow had fallen on the ground once all was said and done. Hope you enjoy it!
Tent: Bereg UP-5
Stove: Caminus (Fireplace) Large
Bereg equip reseller (Canada & USA): bereg-canada.com/
Any other gear or general questions? Let me know in the comments.
Thanks for watching.

I have watched hundreds of great outdoor camping video’s in the winter, before, during, and after a winter storm, I watched them build shelters, campfires, beds etc. but what I have never seen is anyone build a latrine (toilet). They don’t have to demonstrate using it, but at else show that you have one, or some new modern day method designed for camping. No one can go three days camping without relieving themselves, its part of life, human nature, nothing to be shamed about.

I had to comment on this one. This guy picked a tent site with absolutely zero protection. 200 yds away was a stand of woods that would have offered at least a bit of windbreak. A lot of these KZbin videos are becoming “I’ll do this for one nite and hope I don’t die” videos. Not much bushcraft knowledge needed here.

@@Scorge120 here’s a bit of observation. You’re setting yourself up for some harsh warranted criticism. Try adding some common sense that real bushmen can learn from. In the case of this video, your site choice only spoke of a supreme lack of bush knowledge at the fundamental level. Your video only spoke to “I’m tough and I like the media attention.” I would guess you’re a media hound looking for more viewers and not about any knowledge you might have about bush skills. Oh I know you get some positive feedback from ppl about your videos. I would guess they are from ppl that are looking for inane, inconsequential content. And they just like you personally. I challenge you to try planning out your adventures with bush skills in mind. In other words how about adding some substantial content and not just the giggly school girl fluff.

You want some around the bottom base but too much further up for prolonged periods can damage your tent, loosen the stakes, or at the very least push it further inward and limit your space inside. Ice is usually more of a concern than light powdery snow though.

I also noticed the fence. This is not camping in the wild. A genuine outdoorsperson would not camp out in the open unless one is ice fishing on a frozen lake. It may even be so that his vehicle is only parked a few meters away hence the huge sled. For a more genuine experience, the youtuber Lost Lakes is the one to watch

Doesn't really do much since the tent has a floor that's zipped in + an insulated floor on top, so there is no wind that gets in. I was taking the snow off to reduce buildup on the sides of the tent.
