Very good video, you have a gift to explain things. All good, the only thing, but in a school environment, and because some inspectors, fair enough, will judge the electrician on their attention to detail, is that phase 1 is customary to be black and phase 2 is red. Like you said, it does not matter because it is safe and will work, but since I noticed you are good at details, and because as an old manic veteran with OCD🤣 who since an apprentice, and son of an Electrical Engineer, who was super picky and paranoid about these things, I still fear him yelling if I don't pay attention 🤣😂 even though he is long gone. The good thing is that you ended up wiring them accordingly. Your left buss bar terminal got the black one! I have watched you and you do get your information right and your videos are safe. I cringe on other "internet electricians" out there, but you have never made a mistake and I would say your videos are the best edited and somehow the pace and your voice matches really good.

Hello Josh. I wanted to thank you for the useful content you create for us. Can I ask you to make a video on how to properly use power tools for construction (screwdriver, drill, angle grinder, jigsaws, etc.)? As a novice builder, I was interested to know. Thanks in advance.

For those of you wiring a Watkins (HotSpring/Caldera) tub, it's wired differently than just about all other makes. Watkins supplies the subpanel with GFCI breakers with their tubs. The pre delivery instructions detail how to wire a Watkins tub. Namely, a 50 amp double pole non GFCI breaker is installed in the main dervice panel. Watkins then says 8 guage wire is run to the supplied subpanel/disconnect (I used 6 guage THHN/THWN-2 in conduit) and from the subpanel to the tub 10 guage and 12 guage is used (the breakers are 20 and 30 amp double pole GFCIs). The 30 amp powers the jet pumps and the 20 amp powers the 4 kw heater. The ground wire is 8 guage and goes from the tub back to the main service panel (it's NOT connected to the neutral bar in the subpanel). Use the subpanel ground bar.

So I am wiring a Grandee next week. I will need to run 3 wire gage 10 and a ground gage 10, plus 2 wires gage 12 from the disc to the spa. Correct??

Hey when connecting the hot tub ,does it matter red or black where it goes ? they're both hot correct ?
@aksuarezjd2 ай бұрын
Yes, although in a trade school environment, the left (phase 1) is always black and phase 2 (right) is red. Is not important here but in other situations is somewhat of interest to people "down the line". And, if you are an old OCD veteran like me 🤣 I always look at the two feeders and check that my left terminal from the buss bar gets the black 🤣🤣🤣VA gives me pills but not a high dose, so is a habit I learned from a super detailed mentor in my youth (my dad).

Love the video! I had a local electrician hook my 60 amp hot tub up and he used a 50amp 120/240 gcfi breaker. Does that check out?
@aksuarezjd2 ай бұрын
Four reasons, the wire used is rated for 50 amps, the length of the run is far from the main panel and reduces amp capacity (feet/C degrees), or he did a load test and based on your meter and distribution panel he wanted to limit it to 80%, your equipment is rated for 50amp or less. Yet, perhaps, if everything else was not a problem, he did not have any 60 amp breakers left 🤣🤣😂

Was a great video. I'm going to attempt to install my whip for my hot tub to 50 amp GFI outdoor already set up for a previous hot tub what gauge wire did you use for your whip?
@bxu7894 ай бұрын
Why do you need two 50A breakers , one in the main panel, the other one in the Square D sub panel?
@TheExcellentLaborer4 ай бұрын
Some areas may allow you to place a 50 amp breaker that is GFCI in the main or sub panel and not have the disconnect within a visual distance from the hot tub. In my case, I had to have the spa panel within visible range from the hot tub. I hope that helps!
@BrianHinton-w3o2 ай бұрын
Is that wire rated for wet location? Everything is ready it says to use thhn wire.
@RosembeltVillanueva-c9f3 ай бұрын
I see the liquid tight conduit under the spa but I don't see it sticking out on the GFI box side, did you not run it all the way? Or is it not needed?
@natew.5511Ай бұрын
LiquidTite houses the wires from where the conduit exits the concrete pad (or from where the conduit running along the side of the tub ends next to the equipment compartment) and for the 2 or 3 feet from there to the control box inside the tub equipment compartment. There can ne some pretty tight bends and this is the easiest, neatest way.

I like the way you do your videos. I like that you say "I'm going to do this,"and then do it. I'm 83 years old and did my first electrical work when I was 13 years old in my father's machine shop. I would have liked that kind of detail back then. Eventually I was in the building and remodeling business for 60 years and did the majority of the electrical work on my own jobs, and it was a challenge to teach new people what to do. Your videos are perfect the way they are for new or younger people wanting to learn. The way you do your videos, you are teaching people how to understand the order in which the job should be done. Thinking out loud is a good way to teach, and your videos are about teaching.
