Could do a video for someone new to hot tubs either just bought one or bought a house with a hot tub and what needs to be done daily, weekly and after each use to keep the chemicals balanced.

Help! Cant get chlorine levels down on my hot springs spa It has a salt cell. I have tried everything spa dealership has told me to do. Shock, turn off cell, leave lid off and run jets. Have done this for several days. And also let some water out and filled with fresh. And still can’t get levels down. What should I do?

The store I bought my hot tub from said my Chlorine was Total Chlorine (7.7) Ideal: 3- 5 and Free Chlorine (0) Ideal: 3- 5 So what is causing my Chlorine to be high, I am using the Frog@ease and have it set on a 1? What is strange is on the report is says Add 3.5 oz(s) of Chlorinating Concentrate? Why would I add Chlorinating Concentrate to my hot tub if it is 7.7 Total Chlorine?

Hello! Just got a brand new hot tub and only used a couple of times and this morning, after having used it a couple of times yesterday, the water was turvy... Tried everything the spa's store told me to do, balanced ph and alkalinity, shocked... end of day and still cloudy. Filter rinsed out even tought we just used tub 3x in 3 days. Pump and circulation, jets, everything is working properly. What could be causing the water to be cloudy? There was even a bit of smell earlier this morning. Thanks for your reply🙂

Hi, Thank you for all the help full information. Would you know what to do or how to reduce cyanuric acid in the hot tup? Thank you
@HotTubOwnerHQ3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick. Honestly it's not something I've ever measured or thought about. People tend to add it to make chlorine hold up better in sunlight (so it's used more in pools than in hot tubs). The downside is it reduces the ability of the chlorine to kill bacteria. So people have to add more chlorine than normal (hence super high chlorine smells at public pools). If you are seeing high levels in your hot tub, chances are you're using a chlorine sanitizer and/or shock with added stabilizers (which contain the acid). I would start by switching brands and looking for ones that don't have added stabilizers. You should be able to just let the water go for a few days and see the levels naturally drop. If they don't, then you could drain a portion off and top off with fresh water. Hope that helps!

Water changes. That the only thing that will remove them. Don’t use stabilized tablets. That’s what my issue was. Went to shock at 10ppm and wouldn’t even touch the green water. Cyanuric levels were 120 ppm. Didn’t know my tablets were the source. Did a 50% water change and the chlorine cleared the pool in less than 24 hrs.

test strip... test strip.... test strip totally fed up hearing about them and then talking about parts per million; another silly term. Why? Because having two brands of test strips and trying to figure out where the colours match is a terrible guessing game. The colours never match anything close on the test strips. Also when i take my water in to be tested at the hot tub outlet ( fairly frequently) i always have to adjust the chemicals usually only small amounts. I follow every direction to the letter. There are two of us I use it the most perhaps once every few days. The water is crystal clear doesnt smell is not cloudy etc. I do weekly shock, 3 cubes, polysheen and stain and every thing else it needs. Its a new tub. I clean the filter scrupiously. Change the water long before it is due.I still get red itchy bloches that last for weeks with raised pimples and blisters on the skin. Some net info points to pseudomomes, folliculitis. My wife doesnt get it ever. No home tests test for this the biggest problem with a hot tub. Nobody really talks about it. Nobody talks about test strips being virtually useless. Nobody talks about the fact that this folliculitis can survive in chlorine. Nobody talks about where and how to test for bacteria in the tub . Nobody talks about getting rid of all bacteria in the tub. Fresh fills etc have all been tried. I swim in a river on the property all summer teaming with bacteria downstream from a sanitation plant and yes i had the river water tested . The result was not fit to drink and yet no pseudomomes rashes . I only get it with paying 7600 for a tub treating it weekly following every test result action, watching every video ever made on tub maintenance with people trying to explain PH and Alkalinity and explaining how to save money and every other basic thing which you can find out if you only read the manual that comes with the tub. So yes am i fed up with all these people chatting about hot tub maintenance and how easy it is? Yes i am. Am i fed up with quotes about using test strips? Yes I am. Where, when, and how can we get accurate yes accurate home daily testing for bacteria, ph, etc so we really can use hot tubs safely?

My chlorine levels drop really quick have to add more before every soak so maybe twice a day if I’m using it morning and night. I just started though so PH levels aren’t completely balanced yet but adding decreaser every night. How long is chlorine supposed to last and will it get less frequent when my water is balanced? Thanks!
@HotTubOwnerHQ3 жыл бұрын
Chlorine (as you're finding) doesn't hold up well in heat (or sun). That's why a lot of hot tub owners use bromine as a sanitizer instead (and then use a chlorine shock). I like bromine tablets in a floater as I can set it and forget it. I just add 3 tablets a week. High pH shouldn't necessarily cause the chlorine to get used up faster (but high pH does have other issues, so I would definitely fix that).
@TamiVroma14 жыл бұрын
Just a thought.....would turning the heat way up help dissipate the chlorine. I couldn't keep my free chlorine up so they had me super chlorinate it...holding now but way to high. Other option was to empty but we have well water and high tannins.
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but water in a hot tub only heats between 3-6 degrees per hour, so by the time it got hotter, the chlorine would be dissipated already. I would personally suggest setting the temp where you like it as raising and lowering will raise your electricity bill if you do it frequently.

My water chemistry always has high PH but low alkalinity???? I have to add spa down to decrease the ph but then my alkalinity bottoms out. Then I have to add Alkalinity Increaser, which will eventually increase ph especially after we get in. Plus my hose/source water has high ph which doesn’t help either... I would LOVE to see a video about how to stop this!!! I’ve looked all over KZbin but no one really talks about this kind of issue.
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lindsey Great question! I don't have this issue with my hot tub, but I do with my Intex above-ground pool and I haven't found the answer yet. Ultimately, I know if the alkalinity is off, the pH probably will have a hard time getting or staying where it needs to. So I would start by getting the alkalinity where it needs to be. Then, if you need to lower the pH, use a product specifically for pH, as opposed to the ones that say "Spa Down". It will still affect the alkalinity, but not as much. For that, I like Spa Choice pH Decreaser (check it out on Amazon - amzn.to/3hOcyqy) If you then need to increase the alkalinity again after, use regular household baking soda which doesn't affect pH nearly as much. These other videos of mine could help if you haven't already seen them: High Alkalinity - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKSbpq16grmYjMU Low Alkalinity - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpfMkGdujtZ7fM0 Using baking soda to raise alkalinity - kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2K2o6que7dnb6M Hope that helps, but I'll definitely do a video on this too. Thanks for the suggestion! Jeff

Hi, How much "Shock" do you have to put in tub if you don't have a way of measuring grams ??
@HotTubOwnerHQ4 жыл бұрын
I eyeball it and it's about 1/4 cup for my size hot tub (which is a large 6-8 person).
