I just want to give you a huge thanks for making your videos. Specifically this one. We got a new sundance cameo 880 yesterday (here in AZ) and filled it and just kept tripping the breaker trying to turn it on. It was very frustrating. We figured out by doing the elimination process (after checking the gfci wiring per your other videos) it is the blower tripping the gfci so at least we know. Hopefully we can get a tech out quickly from our dealership to deal with the blower. Thanks so much for taking the time to do these!!

I tried for hours today to try and get my hot tub to stop tripping the switch everytime I powered it on... after watching your video I just went back out in the dark with a flood light and I think it is the heating element cable. 1 of the round circles on the nut is burned and managed to get my hottub to power on and stay on after disconnected the heating element cable and the hot tub stayed on. So now need to find the correct replacement cable to buy a new one. But your video helped so much. Now I have diagnosed the problem. Thank you very much. Do you think it will be the whole heater that I will need to replace or just the simple job of the plug and click cable? I'm going to order the cable 1st as that's only £16 but the long heater tube looking online is £180. I'm hoping the plug and click cable fixes the issue

But without knowing why it burned it is tough to say.. keep an eye on it something is causing this to happen. when this has happened to me in the past I replace the entire heating tube as an entire unit. UPDATE: Once I removed the cover and start checking for leaks, I noticed drops coming out from the inner Clearray system (Jacuzzi-J345), rust in the nuts and humidity in the floor of the tub, close to one of the pumps. I disconnected the Clearray system from the tubing, the system board and removed it completely from the tub. Now the tub has been working for more than 3 hours without tripping the breaker. I think I found it! Thanks!

I repair for a living. Don't work on hot tubs as of yet. But after what you just showed me. This is just like working on all the appliances, water heaters, furnaces, and AC I troubleshoot and repair. I will not turn down the next hot tub repair. Just last night one of my customers said GFCI would not reset. I went up to look at the electrical. Nothing more than they were not resetting the breaker before turning it back on. Found no problems after resetting it. Everything ran fine. It was an easy money service call. But that said. Great info, with things to look out for in the future. I live in Nevada and my Balboa breaker trips only qhen its hot outside( 100+°). Replaced wire to appropriate size and solid ground. Still pops when ambient temps are high. Maybe the heater is my problem.

Great video and very informative. I have a Balboa single-pump system that trips the (new) GFCI breaker. I've unplugged EVERYTHING and disconnected the heater and two temp sensors. Still trips and can't figure out why. Don't see any physical problems (corrosion, PCB burns, etc.). Removed the (good) 300mA fuse F4 and GFI is stable. Don't know what F4 controls though as I can't find a true PCB schematic. [Thought the MOV above F4 was shorted, but it's not]. Ever seen this?

Both my heater terminals were corroded. Cleaned them with vinegar, rinsed with water and dried it really good. Spa is working now.

I have a Master Spas TS8.25 that trips the gfci during any size rain storm. No moisture in the gfci panel or in the control board. I remove to two fuses in the control panel for the motors and reinstall and the breaker will reset. Hot tub has been installed for a year and a half with no issues. Any ideas thank you!!

Spa Man you rock. My breaker blew and fizzled out a few days ago. Installed new breaker and it was immediately popping. Followed your suggestion. Disconnected ozone first. That wasn't it. I had just cleaned my filter before it blew and and noticed I was still getting a flow error and then my CB blew. So I disconnected flow switch. That was it. Hi I am having same problem. I have power at junction box from the gfi breaker with no short to ground. I have removed the elements checked resistance and short to ground, good with no blisters on outside. Hi limit and thermistor operation look normal when heated. I have a Balboa pack as well. History is just stopped heating. Everything else was okay. I will try disconnecting the heaters I believe I had 14.5 ohms on heater does that sound about right. Every thing else was unplugged just pack hooked up. Wish me luck Marc

Your video saved me. It was the Ozonator, that when it was plugged in, kept tripping the breaker. Spa tech had told us it was the main GFCI breaker, so we had an electrician replaced it, but then nothing would turn on. Found your videos and your tip on the Ozonator. I disconnected it from the panel, and the pumps and blower turned on. Only thing now is that with the ozonator off, a "Clicking" sound comes on. Is it because of the Ozonator being disconnected? In my experience if its only a couple years old and it trips from the get go and the breaker will not set it was wired wrong(Every Time) I am kinda confused You say you bought it new and it trips the breaker when turned on and its been sitting empty for two years and you still need to run power to it. Is it typical to have pump 1 not plugged in and plugged into pump two per say ? When I opened this new used unit it’s tripping breaker and idk what’s wrong yet , but here’s two issues I see , in the main panel the neutrals and grounds are all sorts of mixed up rather then designation of one bus for ground and another for common … second seems to be pump in plugged into pump 2 rather then pump one

I have a balboa board in a cal spa hot tub. It all of the sudden tripped breaker and I've disconnected everything from the board and it's still tripping breaker right when I flip it on. I also found 2 glass fuses that didn't have continuity will blown fuses trip the breaker right away?

Hey Spa Man, thanks for all the great videos! I'm working on a friends Balboa and it trips the breaker sporatically. It runs fine for a while and usually when the cycle shuts down it can trip the breaker. I tried disconnecting everything and repluging like you said. It's not the heater or ozone devices but seems to be the 2 speed left hand motor that is the problem but the motor runs fine. Replaced the main breaker. Any suggestions about the motor? @@spaman5440 I have checked all connections and even replaced the GFCI breaker. I am leaning toward the circulation pump overheating over time, or am I off track. I think if it was the heater element it would trip right away.

I have a Limelight Flair from Hot spring Spa. Breaker trips within 5 seconds of resetting it. Is this video universal or is it specific to a certain brand?

I use the same process on just about every hot tub. It a process of elimination.

***Question***Right off the bat I think you helped me! Last spring my hot tub tripped a couple times after I had everything clean and prepped after the winter. I also noticed the water level slowly going down. Instead of figuring it out, I just shut it down (busy times). Now, a year later I need it back up and running. Last week I opened the panels and turned the breaker on. I instantly noticed water spraying from the bolts on the heater. The breaker quickly tripped. Now it doesn’t come in at all. Your video showed me that I have a heater problem. My question is, because my system doesn’t do anything at all now, should I replace all the components in the box, or should I just replace the heater and fuses? Appreciate anything you can offer!!

If it is a Balboa system or the like...I would just replace the entire heater assembly with a new one including sensors and gaskets Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

Aloha! I have been scouring the internet for info. My hot tub isn't working: only hear a click sound when i press the pump buttons. All power supplies look good. Pump one is 5 months old. Breaker is not tripping... any ideas?

So I have a tub (J325) that is tripping the GFCI plug as soon as it powers on. I isolated it to the circulating pump. However, not sure if this is indicative of something else: I disconnected the black lead from the control panel and it doesn't trip. But when I use my meter to check the terminal's voltage to ground, it trips! Could the relay for that pump or even the board be bad? I did not disconnect the white lead though. Should I have disconnected it to fully isolate the pump? thanks for your help!

2007 Sundance Optima 880. Breaker tripping.. Diagnostic as you did showed heater was to blame. Disconnected heater but now the unit turns on randomly. Sometimes its a pump, maybe the blower, maybe the lights sometimes a combination of all 3. What now?

I have a question. What If the hot tub is running with jets and lights on. And it trips in like 12-16min? 50 amp gfci hot tun

I've tested all of these circuits. Even when I have them all disconnected, the breaker reliably trips after 1 min 17 sec. I have no warnings on the panel before it happens. It's a Jacuzzi 300. Any thoughts on what to try next?

Might be in the board or could be the connections between the main panel and the board. With everything disconnected from the board it can only be so many things. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

You sir an awesome teacher, I wished I had a come back and listen to this video again before I started taking things apart I'm pretty sure my pump is no good. But I'm not in over my head yet LOL I'm going through all of your videos and your I subscribed looking for my Tuff Spa you've hit this Balboa a couple times this is what I've got the v-series I suspect my problem is it going to be circulation pump but I saw you do this on the jacuzzi Style not tough Spa I don't see a circulation pump or the switch maybe I have to go all around the the tub and take all the panels off to find it but I suspect this little black box that's mounted in a way that I can't see it and I can't figure out what it is I've not seen it in any of your videos I wished you were a tough spot guy instead of a Jacuzzi guy LOL anything you can tell me to help I appreciate it thank you very much for all your hard work I know making these videos is a lot of work cuz I've made a few

What do you do if it takes several days sometimes for it to trip? The technician replaced the heater element yesterday because the washers were worn and it was corroded and he says causing a short. The first visit he blamed water splashing in as the cause. He tested amps on the pump and heater abd sats everything is in soecs.The worn element made sense to me but it is not covered under warranty because he says the water conditions is causing the corrosion, again seems like a reasonable assumption , however it tripped again today a day after! After $400 of visits and a warranty that apparently is worthless what should I do next? It is only a year old! Is it a gfi problem?

You could have several things going on.I do not want to confuse others that might have the same problem but the fix is different for different tubs and spas ..I would call the shop and talk to Scott and see if he can get you looking in the right direction. Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

I have one where the circ pump is tripping the gfci. I put a new pump in it and it does the same thing. Tried a 3rd pump and it still trips it 10 seconds after it’s powered up. I don’t see any obvious issues with the relays or connections on the board. Think the board is bad?

If you are putting a new pump in and everything is hooked up correct.. and still trips ? then you need to start checking other things. its hard to guess what is causing the problem with the info you have given. If it trips with in 10 sec it is something easy to track.Thanks for Watching & SUBSCRIBING

@@spaman5440 agree with it something easy or hope so! I have all pumps, ozone, heater leads disconnected. The unit powers up and as soon as the circ pump relay is triggered it trips the gfci. Without a load the circ pump relay output is 120v. I also tried using one of the other relays since there are multiple 6a relays on the board. It does the same thing.

So I have my breaker tripping I unhook heater it’s good. The heater tests ok any idea still change heater. I am not sure why it shows heater element good.
