The best way I can portray Tywin to you two is a combination of all of the major personality traits of this three children, Jamie, Cersei, and Tyrion. He possesses Jaime's martial skill and mind for warfare, Cersei's ruthlessness, and Tyrion's intellect and understanding of political and dynastic intrigue. He is without a doubt my favorite character in the entire history of Ice and Fire and GOT at large.

The big difference between GoT and HotD for me is how in HotD there is a pretty constant handful of characters that drive the plot forward with their actions but in GoT everyone all the way from a butcher's son to the king and queen gets some characterisation and a will of their own that affects the course of the future. It feels bigger yet more grounded!
@salmarwow2 жыл бұрын

A book tid-bit about Jon being assigned to the stewards: In the books, Ser Alliser doesn't intend to pass Sam in the new recruits class, and Jon is terrified of what will happen to Sam if he is left behind without the protection of Jon and his friends. So Jon visits Maester Aemon to see if he can persuade him to help Sam. Jon is only 14-15 years old at this time in the books, but he begins his astute appeal to Maester Aemon by reminiscing about a lesson he was given by Maester Llewyn at Winterfell as a boy. He tells Aemon that Llewyn explained that each link of a Maester's chain is earned as he acquires a new skill. And that, even though some maesters are more skilled in some areas (e.g. medicine, science, history, philosophy, etc.) than others, every maester - no matter his skill - has something to contribute to the Order. Then Jon cleverly transitions into saying that he imagines it's the same for the Nights Watch: that every man has something he can contribute. And that the Watch benefits from having more than just fighters. It also needs smiths and cooks and people like Maester Aemon who can read and write. Then he explains Sam's situation to Maester Aemon. He tells Aemon how Sam will not survive under Thorne without protection and that, even though he's not a warrior, Sam is incredibly smart and would be more of a loss to the Watch than Ser Alliser realizes. He then appeals to Aemon to take Sam on as his steward, as he would be perfect for assisting a Maester. Aemon was so impressed with Jon after that meeting, that he personally goes to Lord Commander Mormont to inform him that Jon should be groomed for leadership. (That said, there are others who had also pointed this out to Mormont, but Aemon's recommendation was the one with the most weight to it.)

Notice the similar conflict at this point in GOT and HOTD. Bastard children being named heirs - Cersei’s kids, Rhaenyra’s kids. Varys was trying to wink wink nudge nudge that something was afoot. Littefinger was calculating. Ned’s action/inaction changed the calculus for him and therefore the route he took.
@seanwatson33342 жыл бұрын
something about Sir Alister (Jon's main enemy at the wall) that I didn't know until after watching GoT... and they never go into it on the show, so this isn't a spoiler or anything and won't give anything away about the show, but it will help to understand his hatred for Jon Snow. Alister was a Targaryan loyalist who fought against Robert and Ned's army when they went against the mad King. After the war, Ned sent him to the wall when he wouldn't bend the knee to Robert as new king. So, Jon being Ned's bastard son is getting extra hate. I'm guessing Benjen Stark's legitimacy and his rank at the wall shields him, but Jon is a new recruit.

Just to let y’all know, the Gods of Westeros are separated into 2 groups. The Seven, or the gods of the Andals (a group of men that invaded thousands of years ago, from which almost all the people of Westeros are descended) and the “Old” Gods, which are the gods of the First Men, the men who were natives to Westeros, from which the Starks are descended. (And most of the North) The Seven are the official faith of the Crown, and are worshipped in septs (essentially churches) and the “Old Gods” are worshipped in the Godswood, the places where the white trees with red leaves are. (And sometimes the trees have crying faces, called heart trees) This is often why when someone swears an important oath they say “By the Old Gods and the New” referring to both the old faith, and the Seven, so as to guarantee they swear by whatever gods they personally worship. There are however, a number of other gods that are worshipped in the rest of the world, including “Death”, as Syrio puts it, and the “Great Stallion”, whom the Dothraki worship.

Varys was implying that the timing of Robert's fatal wound was not accidental. Ned had just made some moves against the Lannisters by summoning Tywin to answer for Gregor Clegane's crimes and telling Cersei to take her children and run. So Robert's squire being a Lannister and maybe giving Robert too much to drink too quickly during a boar hunt so that he was too drunk to avoid getting gored by the boar was suspiciously convenient for the Lannisters.

Been a busy week but I finally got to watch this. It's really interesting to see both your surprised reactions and see that they're totally for different reasons. While Pudgy catches on more to the political intrigue and moves, the final actions still surprise her and it's fun to watch. Spartan, on the other hand, seems to expect everyone to act out of honor and then gets absolutely floored by the dishonorable outcomes and it's hilarious! I'd say Spartan is the most "Ned-like" of the pair. Both bring me great joy and amusement to watch! This episode you finally witnessed the great Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister! You'll find he's one of the best actors playing one of the most interesting characters. You'll absolutely love him in all scenes, even while being firmly against him. He steals there show everytime he appears.

Littlefinger : Where is duty? Where is sacrifice? You tripped on your pretty foot again!! Ned : Now they see you as you are!! It's only right😆😆. It's the same dagger. This is like the Forrest Gump of Westerosi daggers.

its other way around . ned is in alicent's role of being threat to heir/illegitimate children. only unlike ned alicent decided to play the game and basically took the offer littlefinger made to ned in private.

Another good upload, very enjoyable. Well done Pudgey, you nailed it a few episodes ago. Still can't fathom why Spratan won't recognize that and even tried to be surprised by the 'Joffrey' revelation! Still, it's going to make the next 7 seasons of this show a joy to watch as you drag him along on an increasingly longer piece of rope. :¬D

The girl they captured (actually all of the ones that attacked Bran) is what they call a Wildling. They're actually what's mostly found north of the Wall. They're just people, I guess you could call them savages, though some of the tribes are more savage than others, but they're still people.

In the North, at least when it comes to the Starks and the lesser houses allied to them, being a member of the Night's Watch was an honor, even though the nobility of the more southerly kingdoms consider it a punishment. (And, well, it often is, but not for the volunteers like Jon.)

I always thought that to a warlord like drogo, if she had told him "oh by the way my family flew on 100 foot tall fire breathing reptiles and sat on a giant chair made out of the swords of their enemies in a room with too many swords to count" he would have actually taught his horse to run on water to go sit in it.

i totaly blame this one Eddart ----> he had multiple good options - cercei offered to let eddard go - litle finger gave him two option 1. let joffrey have the throne (and plot somthing) - 2. side with Renly ------> Renly has enormous amounts of power --- a big army and many great allys with Eddarts power they could force the lenisters to give up

Varys words seem to suggest that Lancel Lannister knowingly made sure King Robert was drunk while hunting so he wouldnt be focused enough and that such an "accident" with the boar can happen. I don't know if Varys knew it for a fact, but its obvious Varys suspects this and shares it with Ned and Ser Barriston Selmy.

6:05 see? Just like in HotD, Lannisters are sometimes shown hunting the Stag. Some say that it could be an allegory about a rivalry between themselves and House Baratheon

As Tywin said in the episode, it's all about perception. If the people perceive that Joffrey is King, then he's the King. Littlefinger is extra sneaky in this episode. He makes a great villain.
