Ah, nothing like being dragged from hotel to restaurant sector because the help is needed in banquet hall. What? Someone needs to be in reception room? Nah, restaurant is exactly looking at it through the open door. The overworked waiter will handle you, just asked then, and if not? Well, then there is two people looking for help.

@Lorelene Could be a worldwide problem. I remember one of those "What does the actress/model pack when she travels?" article from years ago. It was bulldog-clips or pegs they took, so you could darken the room as much as possible (and sleep!). Good tip that I've followed at times 👏

The curtains may shut all the way but expose the edge of thw window. Oh, and put a security flood light outside the room for safety. This will turn you room into a mini land of the midnught sun, but think safety.

You forgot the drapes! Big heavy sackcloth drapes that let no light through, but are set several centimeters away from the wall so all the light seeps around them! And laundry service so expensive it's cheaper to just buy new clothes. An ice bucket so small you can get enough for two glasses of water before having to make a second trip.... which you won't.... because the machine's always broken. A swimming pool that's best day was the day the pamphlet photos were taken and hasn't been maintained since, and the only people who've ever swam in it are the employees. Towels so small and thin you need one for every hundred pounds of bodyweight, plus two for the floor because couldn't tell the floor mat wasn't a towel and used it to dry off already.

The bath/shower tap arrangements are so true. You need a degree to work out how to work them. When you need glasses to see them but have to take the glasses off for the shower, it's an absolute pain. The lack of jugs is a real pain overseas as you have to run the hot water through a pod machine and end up with coffee flavoured tea etc. My other pet peeve is dark rooms (supposedly moody) where you're stumbling in tbe dark trying to find light switches, coupled with corridor mood lighting on power save. There's 1 Canberra hotel which is horrible for this.

I’ve spent many years as a young child and teenager exploring the country side of Australia. So a couple of tips for y’all: 1. Bring your own pillow 2. Wear shoes in the shower if the place is really old or ever lol 😂 3. Honestly go down to the shops and buy some toilet paper. 4. Don’t like Lipton tea? Bring your own. 5. Don’t sleep on the decorative pillows or blankets. If you’ve got a suggest just comment it and I’ll add it to the list.

Or the heater/air conditioner that is impossible to adjust so you are either boiling hot or freezing cold all night 🤪 And the bright digital alarm clock set to the wrong time that you have to unplug so you can sleep. Also, housekeeping barging after briefly knocking and not waiting for a reply (Happened to my husband and I on 3 separate occasions when we were dating in a long distance relationship and stayed in hotels often) 🙈 And the sheets with the scratchy wooden blanket (that I guess is not washed after each guest) in between are horrible. I get why they do it, but it’s not comfortable and the blanket is 😬 And unless you are staying in a fancy 5 star hotel,if you are starving after 9 or 10pm there’s no food available, not even in the mini bar and if you are lucky to have room service the choice is between an overpriced microwaved food 😆 And I always have trouble with having to tap the room card on the lift/elevator swiper so it will go up to your room, I can never figure out if you do it before or after pressing your floor number, so I just give up and let my husband do it 🤪 I think I may just need to stay in some posher hotels 😆

The late check-in is the WORST when you get to a city after an overnight flight and find yourself just riding public transport around the city to pass the time. Or if a library is open nearby that's always appreciated as long as they don't kick you out for falling asleep on the couches 😐

check your bags in early to the hotel early and go in search of the local i site and get vouchers from a free tourist information book then go on a self-guided tour. also complaining you're tired and you're going to just set up camp in their lobby until the room is ready and making it look like you're in no rush to move by keeping your self busy, gets things moving fast.

Being a business traveller, but thankfully not recently, every last bit of this is true. My personal pet peeve is no power points (not just difficult to get at) next to the bed to charge my phone and have it anywhere near me. The usual victim for unplugging is the alarm clock that is too difficult to set, and my phone does that for me anyway.except it would be on the other side of the room. I pity the poor staff forced to reset the thing once I plug it back on again and can't figure out how to reset the time. Or perhaps the next guest who thinks whatever the clock says the time is is correct...

One vivid Sydney I was staying near the harbour with family and I got a cold so I didn’t notice we had the heater on and I turned on the kettle for a tea to warm me up and the jug tripped the power of the room. Next morning I noticed it above the kitchen area in a cupboard ahaha

😖😑, and, the lighting switching control system will be different to every other hotel you have ever stayed at. The bathroom will will have less privacy commensurate with increasing price until a spotlessly clean glass panel will separate the bed from the toilet and shower. Room service will replace all but the very thing, I am talking about you coffee capsule, you need. There will be nowhere to hang more than one towel. The air conditioner will make the most uncouth sounds imaginable with a delightful crescendo just as you WERE falling asleep. The people next door will have noisy children, the tv turned up full tilt, will be having loud sex and or equally loud arguments. And, as a long term Chinese resident, the non smoking room will wreak of smoke 💨, stale tobacco. I am just warning up 🙄😑

Saw a tour of an upmarket hotel, in Bali I think, where the free-standing bathtub was basically in the main room. Separate shower for the shy, though.

@@kathydurow6814 Stayed in a cheap room in Madrid once. The toilet was opposite the bed, literally inside the bedroom. It was neither plumbed in, nor screwed to the floor. Just a porcelain poo chamber of horrors.
