Back when doing the washing was a an involved process.. had one of these years ago.. I still say a twin tub would clean really stubborn dirt better than an auto.

It is involved, but fun for me to use on occasions. I find the older detergents had to work harder and were, well, just more oomphy for stains

Dumb American here: what caused clothes washer like this design be the norm over in the UK? In the 1950s and 60s the US had the common blueprint for washers and dryers that are now used worldwide today. Perhaps was it space constraints or small washrooms? It is a unique way to wash clothes that seems quicker, but it also seems to wash less than an average top-loader made today.

Definitely space issues, millions of houses were built with tiny kitchens, millions of terraced houses and cottages had a front room and a back room which was the kitchen, then people built small extension kitchens etc, still no room for fitted kitchen and the like we see today. These were brilliant as they could be used as a worktop and then rolled out and used on washday. It’s only in recent years that kitchen here have become more Americanised and still millions of smaller new build houses don’t have utility rooms.

Still use my Electra 78HPT 1465 a re-badged Hotpoint weekly, at least 45 years old & still works fine.

Hotpoint top loaders were the best washing machines ever, would give my eye teeth to be able to buy them now!

My Nan had one of these hot point twin tubs in the 80s she died in 99 but my mum used it untill 2004 really reliable machines

oh wow, they really are tough, but I still need to get my spinner sorted, soon hopefully as soon as the lockdown rules are relaxed more, then I can take it to my friends to be fixed.

That's just like my machine. I bought mine 2nd hand 30 years ago, and all I've replaced is a spinner seal, a hose and a few rubber spinner mats.

I’m really annoyed with my Partner who got rid of my Hotpoint Super-matic... I’d only had it a short time - like new! I purchased one of the very last they manufactured from their Production Line (this identical Model) in 1998 - and when I moved in with my Partner, I left him to deal with everything in my previous home - he doesn’t even remember what happened to my Machine I could cry... I’m still, all these years on SO upset and heartbroken about it... I’d willingly pay £800 (more than double what I originally paid) for a a brand new or unused one (not used) if anyone could find one! Great Video - Thanks for uploading! x!

That’s such a shame. One recently came up on eBay, an earlier one late 70’s early 80’s. brand new in all original wrappers etc for under 150 quid. You really have to be at the right time right place to get one. I really hope you do.

I got a modern Thompson twin tub off Amazon last week its brilliant washes and spins a lot more than an automatic I'll only use my automatic for great big things xxxx

@@francisraffle2948 Me too! The Thompson Machine (for a modern Appliance) is VERY god and efficient. Juts missing a Heater.... I don't know if you managed to get one with the 'Waterfall' Action? They have also stopped doing tat feature now... Mine has it.

I got Hoover link Washing machine ,its a year old but now its got a e09 code ,i cleaned filter and found 2 pound 65 p and a hair grip , is there a way to reset it do u think ,i know your a mastermind at fixing things .

Awwww, it is a shame. It will be out again and back in use in the warmer weather as I use it in the utility room and keep the door open for space. I do enjoy using it. The spin is amazing!

@@HooverLux I remember the hotpoint twintubs well my opinion was that they were far better than the hoover twintubs I found tangled the clothes my late mum never had a hotpoint twin tub but she did have a servis twin tub which was similar to the hot point two tubs

I get you. They were designed more for convenience rather than effectiveness. My nan liked the auto-rinse because load 3 would be washing and load 2 rinsing, whilst she was begging the 3rd load on the line.

hotpointlil I did try it and it was fun to see it cascading like a fountain lol. I've got the hang of it a bit more now.
