3 here - 2 in UK one in US - all of them were 'good enough'. Always wanted a hallway, never got one (rest of the house was good enough to not get that) and a large kitchen (same deal lol). If I wanted everything on a 'list' - I'd have to build my own.

When people are looking for a house, they are looking a home but a house only becomes a home when you make it your own. More and more people want the house presented as their home. A home is a dream because it is not in the bricks and mortar. I grew up with my parents and three siblings in a three bedroom flat so we had to share. It got cramped but we still called it home.

Ha ha, that's how my brother found his family home! He held a pendant over a large area map and progressively smaller areas till he found the exact house. It wasn't up for sale but he went up to the door and asked anyway and they sold it to him! They were literally just talking about the idea of selling! CRAZY!

What kind of teacher do you have to be in order to afford a monstrosity like that? And the heating bill must be horrendous. Yikes. And you're a TEACHER?! how the heck do you pay for everything?! Either you have a spouse with a good job or you have family money. There is no way you can afford a house like that on a teacher's salary even if you bought 50 years ago.

I get the feeling that the single couple, if shown the "perfect" house, wouldn't want it because "there must be something wrong if someone's selling it". Also the importance of a "work-from-home" office space, wow it hits home these years.

As someone who has longed for her own 'forever' home all my life, really (including as a child), I can certainly feel for that army wife who just can't bear to move into yet another soulless 'army house' again. After so many apartments that were OK or 'good enough' but never, ever MINE, never truly 'home,' it's almost a physical craving to have my own forever home. Unfortunately, having spent my life working just above the level of a volunteer in a developing country, I won't be able to afford my own place barring a miracle.

@FigaroHey
@FigaroHey 11 ай бұрын
I suppose that went the way of meeting a good, reliable, kind, person with the same values and life-goals you have, and getting married and staying married through thick and thin for life, recognizing that nobody's perfect and you have to compromise in life. Now people want some kind of god or goddess who will marry them, not notice a single one of THEIR faults, and make them dizzily happy 24/7 until they make one mistake and then divorce them. Media, movies, advertising... it all creates a very false idea of life having to be picture-perfect or someone is to blame. Don't 'settle' for 'good enough' and work to make it better; expect perfect from the start and make no sacrifices or compromises EVER.

What I find most interesting is the difference between how this pair "educates and advisees" their clients. They genially care about what is best for the couple and what is the best long-term investment property for them. My experience in the US (purchased and sold four homes) is that the agents here care more about selling and their oncome than what house is best for the buyer.

I hate to be snotty about this, but when the woman says, “it doesn’t meet our number one criteria,” the correct word is criterion. Criteria is the plural. At first glance, it looks like a mighty heavy stone chip of entitlement she’s carrying on her shoulder. Is it worry, desperation, frustration, or self-doubt ? The manner in which she uttered her disparaging remark bordered on rude. She might have said, “I guess looks are quite important to us so let’s reframe the search a bit.” That dismissive, body language combined with a curt “sorry Phil, “was uncalled for. I get the feeling there’s some kind of deep deep seated worry beneath the veneer. Wow, I’m delighted that, dousing included, they ultimately found a house they really liked ! And she seems to have gained a good degree of confidence and thank Phil for his skilful insight which is great to see. The army couple were much more understandable. It makes sense that after decades of army accommodation, they find a house that really feels like a home.

@@thehungrygoldfish Seriously? This has nothing to do with Beyoncé, or any other famous person. We are allowed to have dreams, we are allowed to pursue those dreams and just because we are not famous or rich does not mean that we should give up on our dreams and shuffle off into mediocrity. We should NOT live in houses we do not like. We just need a little magic. It's out there. It's simply a matter of connecting with it. It doesn't mean that hard work isn't involved. It usually IS. But then we love our dreams even more.

@@andreaandrea6716 Yes, of course. Don't buy a house you don't like. But you do have to compromise. You can't have the perfect house in the perfect location done to your exact specifications within your budget. It's just not going to happen. If you can't compromise, then fine, continue to rent. Then you can have the house that you want within your budget. You just won't own it! lol

@@thehungrygoldfish Yes, but compromising doesn't mean that if you have a deep emotional need to feel at home, you need to live in a place that makes you weep unless there's absolutely NO possibility of you having habitable shelter somewhere else. They may compromise by having to work harder to pay off a bigger mortgage, or compromise by having to do some work on a place or compromise on location or schools or commute... But as her husband said, she will be the one home in the house most of the time, and I'm SURE that he appreciates the sacrifices she has made living in military housing for years so that he could get on with his career. It seems like military husbands on this show really do understand that their wives have a deep desire to make their own nest, their own real home for their children.

Oh come on! Don't harangue the buyers because they have preferences! Don't shame them for not liking some character less box. I can't help but think that the producers purposefully aim to create tension by presenting unsuitable houses, working up to the piece de resistance - something which generally fulfills requirements. It's a predictable and tiring formula and I don't appreciate the deprecation the couples have to endure, simply in order to generate an element of conflict in the script.

No because there have been many house hunts where the couple liked the first or second house the best, including Phil’s couple in this episode lol. The problem is you always have to make compromises, and there are a lot of people who don’t want to make any so they end up empty handed and continuing to rent as housing prices increase until they realize they have to buy a house so they end up buying a house with more compromises for more money. That’s insane.

That 'energy' woman is messing with the demonic, quite honestly, and it's just MAD to let someone who is channeling demons for her 'powers' choose your home for you - or anything else. She's not just a deluded nutter; she is someone who is inviting demons to give her 'powers,' but the cost is huge.

😮😢that woman is SO rude I've not finished the program and she's by far and away the rudest contestant EVER! "Find us something that we do want." I don't know how Phil put up with it. Love Kirsty "Glad we didn't swap." I hope they don't find a house, I really do. And I hope when they eventually buy it collapses around them. Now THAT would make a good programme! Not the people you want as neigbours!!!! 🤑🤮

As an American, I find it funny how you Brits use formal terms such as vendor for seller. I was a real estate agent for a period of time, and had I used that term with my seller, they would have thought I was referring to them as food suppliers as in vending machine, which we do use often! 😁😎👍✌🎄🎅 P.S. I am baffled how people become devotees of these two very unscientific, and possibly life altering beliefs based on fantasy, unbelievable! The scientific evidence is that dowsing is no more effective than random chance. It is therefore regarded as a pseudoscience. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dowsing As is, astrology! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrology
