As House has pointed out to Masters when she almost made the correct diagnosis but allowed herself to be overruled: "counts for nothing if you can't defend it". Taub joked that the diagnosis was too... what? Boring? for an intersex patient, and Foreman dropped the point. He should have kept arguing the point, but didn't. Which means that he didn't diagnose it.

As someone who's taken Methadone, it's NOWHERE near as DANGEROUS as this show is making it out to be. Can you stop breathing if you drink alcohol while on Methadone? Yes, so just don't drink.... One shot won't kill you like demonstrated in this show but drinking to the point of drunkenness will cause respiratory failure in some cases. I wouldn't risk it. But that bit about mistiming your dose and you die and if you don't take your dose you die it's all bullshit. There's plenty of people who get arrested while on methadone and have to kick it cold turkey. They may FEEL like you're dying but you won't die from lack of opiates. You COULD have shock if put into precipitated withdrawals. Someone gave me Narcan when I was in the hospital because THEY thought I was on Heroin but in my chart, it shows I'm on Methadone, but they didn't bother to check it. My heart stopped because of the shock.

Same here. .I refused to take them for years because I was terrified of getting addicted. So, was on arm crutches for years because of a spine that is shot. When my shoulders started to deteriorate, I went on an Opiate. I have never been " High" from them, I have only gotten pain relief. I still have a lot of pain, but I can actually function enough to take care of myself. I walk every day now. When the pain gets to be too .uch, and it's not time for my meds, I use other means of some relief. Yoga has helped a lot, too.

@@reneet5858 othe NSAIDs absolutely do not work for me so I take Kratom and it allows me to function. They were leary of giving me narcotics in my youth so I had to get them thru other means. Beside the fsmily history and my scoliosis I've had 2 amputations and reattachments blown shoulders and been told my hands have been broken 100s od times and this was by the time I was 23. I work as a butcher and sometimes you will be putting a 60lbs slab of frozen meat on a safe it fall over break mt hand and I just keep working, never went to the doctor. I'm close to 50 now.

Methadone would have been ideal for House, it's not anything like the show makes it look like. It really demonstrates how aged the show is. It was a good ep to flesh out the character but adds onto the stigma of OUD treatment... and it can cause resp depression and qtc prolongation but not it's not dangerous as the show makes it out to be. We just keep a close eye on qtc and can possibly use other qtc prolonging meds, although we try to avoid it in general.

As someone who was on methadone for years and now Suboxone and it has saved my life I will say this episode is ridiculous. Methadone is not that dangerous and it certainly will not kill you the way they say. Of course you need to be careful on it but the same goes for any medication. Being addicted to opiates is much worse as far as behavior and actions.

Why can’t he drink the Bourbon?
@Roonifer2 ай бұрын
Because alcohol is a depressant. It slows down brain function and can limit communication between the brain and the central nervous system, which can lead to respiratory distress (among many other deadly risks). House was already taking Methadone before he drank, it would be incredibly dangerous for him to drink alcohol on top of it. This is because Methadone is classified as an opiate, and just like alcohol, opiates can suppress the central nervous system and cause him to stop breathing. (Which, we saw it already do.) If he drinks something that can cause him to stop breathing, while being on a medication that has already made him stop breathing once, there is a huge risk that it will kill him.

@Sniperboy55512 ай бұрын
@kb4903 It’s not safe, but most do combine depressants with opioids. It’s pretty common with recreational opioid users. A Vicodin (5mg hydrocodone) or two and a few beers, you’ll *probably* be fine.

@@kb4903 Many junkies drink booze with heroin, but it's very dangerous and will never be recommended by a licensed medical professional. Doesn't matter if it's beer or bourbon. Any alcohol and any opiate can do it.

Its pretty rare though. Im on subs. After tramadol and downers...It is not reasonable, subs are stronger but it was combined for me with pain relief. My addiction started after a car hit me on the sidewalk, rip. Its mega hard to be functional with it, I have more pain than this could alleviate enough. Its kinda hard to face strong opioids wont solve your pain or depression. You can be functional in your life helping others, but you will be destructive towards your life, to be honest I think because it sucks your spirituality out. You cant be happy while on it, impossible
