Most people don't understand what the series is about. They think it's a boring doctor solving cases series. I too feel the number of seizures in the series is a hell lot but that has nothing to do with the actual story going on in the series. The interactions , the wit and some comedy in between. What's not to love in this series. There's love , hate happiness, misery and serious. It's gives rise to most emotions we can experience as a human.

As someone who lives in a (non-electric) wheelchair I find it kinda funny this is raising quite the argument. To be fair as well, House's leg is in constant pain isnt it? So for him, walking that extra bit is more painful and stressful than the lady in the wheel chair. You could argue he is partially handicapped? and has rights to the space as well. I thought the whole point of a handicapped space was for convenience, so isnt someone who gets more relief from it more entitled? (house) Also its more dangerous and easier to slip with a cane than a wheel chair... plus its also a hospital zone so i don't think anyone is going to get hit by a car and there is plenty of people around to help a person on a wheel chair.

That's why somewhere (especially a hospital) should have multiple disability parking spaces!!! They both deserve it!! For fucks sake, shift another employee who is closer to the door, but it's handicapped, and instead is just lucky or won the auction. I don't have the best mental image of the parking lot from this clip, but it looks like there are people parked right next to the handicapped spot. And House doesn't even need a wider spot, unlike the wheelchair lady.

@@AbsolXGuardian House doesn't need a wider spot, he needs a closer spot. Walking on ice with a bum leg and a cane is a huge walking hazard and her argument that she deserves the spot because she can't walk is kinda ridiculous. She is in an electric wheelchair, the tank of all wheelchairs. She doesn't have to move her arms or have someone assist her (I mean she can but she doesn't have too) and they are much safer in ice and snow than a cane. House also experiences much more pain than she does, which could cause him more problems walking and he could slip and hurt himself. Cuddy should realize that and she should have CONSULTED the two doctors before moving house. They both should get spots closer to the hospital entrance, Cuddy was just being irrational and trying to do something without arguing with House.

This isn’t a disability olympics. Both have right to the space and it comes down to a first come first serve. If this becomes an issue again and again then the hospital need to adjust their parking arrangement for more disabled spaces. House only needs a closer space.

Speaking as someone in a wheelchair (mine is electric like the woman's), House is right. That excuse she gave about it being dangerous was kinda lame. Yes, cars do have trouble seeing you *sometimes*, but having reflectors helps that (similar to reflectors on a bicycle), and there's always the phrase, "Look both ways before you cross the street." Doesn't always guarantee safety and accidents of course can still happen, BUT ultimately it IS easier for her to cross the parking lot than it is for him, especially since her wheelchair is electric and not manual. If it was a manual chair, it might be more of a debate, but even then, House is dealing with chronic pain that would be aggravated by the extra walking and is also at a higher risk of falling (especially in winter), so point goes to House. House should get the parking space.

Except that's not what the argument is about. His argument is about his convenience -- yes, it's tricky navigating the snow and ice with a cane, but it's no more dangerous than it is for a person who DOESN'T walk with a cane. Her argument is about safety -- she's at a higher risk for being hit by a car because of her handicap. House still gets a closer spot and a handicapped space, it's just not the same one as before.

phastinemoon, I'm not sure if you've ever used a cane or crutches before, but one misstep with something that's supporting you is much more dangerous than a misstep for someone with two good legs. Also, many people put small flags or markers on their wheelchairs for that very reason.

ya but the point of the bet was to prove that being in a wheelchair was harder than walking with a cane. House could've easily lasted the week without getting out of the wheelchair, his patient, not so much. So unless they were counting emotional pain in this bet, it wouldn't really make sense. Also situations where you'd need to run to a patient to save their life isn't that common, unless of course, you're House.

Yeah, I'm with House. The space only specifies handicapped, it doesn't mean you have to have a wheelchair, or even a leg disability. If there was a doctor or nurse with a visual handicap of some sort, he or she would be equally qualified for it, and it's not like that's the only handicapped space at the hospital. House has been there longer than Dr. Wheellegs and is more likely to slip on ice with his cane then she is in her automated wheelchair. It's like they say, if the cane might slip, you must give it (I think they say that)

As a wheelchair user (not electric though) I would argue crossing the road, particularly in adverse weather. For example, a wheelchair requires a low curb to get off the road whereas someone on a cane, in theory, could climb up at any point. Due to being lower down, a wheelchair user is also more likely to be missed by a driver. Making crossing the road harder/more dangerous. I'm not claiming one is worse than the other but more just playing devil's advocate because despite one seeming to look better from a distance, there are factors not considered.

@@pun-inator6075 But if the design of the parking space is made in such way that a handicapped person (No matter what kind of handicape) would need to cross the road, then I would say it is a bad layout or design. Most handicap spaces I had seen here in Denmark is as close to the main entrance as possible, and almost always on the same side as the main entrance, so no need to cross where the cars are driving I would say both House and the other doctor in the wheelchair both have good arguements for the handicap space. @@tamarakolar1051 Because eyes encode movement in addition to vision. If your peripheral eyesight is mostly ok (where rods abound, but cone cells are scarce) you can still perceive movement ok. From the point of view of your eyes and the respective information processing areas in your occipital cortex, movement is basically shifting contrasts around you. Rods are much more capable of detecting it as opposed to cons. So, you can have full vision loss in your central retina (most cone cell are concentrated there), but can still see things moving by using your peripheral / averted vision. Also, there are some other cells (besides rods and cones) that detect light intensities and also play an important role in the regulation of circadian rhythms. The visual system is quite complex and fascinating :)

@johnhancock6114
@johnhancock6114 6 жыл бұрын
Both clearly qualify to have a disabled parking spot but Dr. House should have the closer one because of the physical pain he must endure by having having to walk at all. The other doctor has no pain associated with sitting in a comfortable chair, at least none is implied in the show. The ONLY inconvenience associated with having to park one row further away is simply having to push the joystick forward a few seconds longer than she would otherwise have to. Saying you can't "see"" someone in a wheelchair is just plain ludicrous because the same argument can be said for walkers, and the issue of "ice" is far more of an issue for someone on their feet than in a chair with FOUR points of contact on the ground. According to statistics, nearly 6,000 pedestrians (walkers) were KILLED just in 2017, which doesn't include thousands more walkers who were also hit but survived their injuries. Those who think someone in a motorized chair deserves to park closer over someone using a cane who suffers physical pain only feel the way they do because they feel sorry for the person in the chair because of what they SEE. They're letting what they see influence their argument. If they used the proper argument of who physically suffers more then Dr. House should be the one with a closer parking spot, not someone in a motorized chair who only has to sit and push a stick to move. This isn't about who has the greater disability, which she clearly does. It's about who suffers more with physical pain, which is Dr. House.

However I've also noticed that overall when it comes to his patients he does put them before himself showing that he actually does care about them and has good intentions by doing whatever he feels is necessary to save them. Like here when he risked losing this bet to save that kid or when he left that courtroom to save that other person knowing he might be thrown in jail for that. Also these are just a few examples they're many more and yet he's hardly ever thanked and sometimes even punished because that judge had him spend a night in jail despite the fact if he didn't leave someone would of died.

This episode kind of paints a picture of why he can be so, House sometimes. Living with a chronic pain condition is miserable. It impacts your moods, your mental state, even how the rest of your body feels. (More than in just painful ways.) You can be the most chipper, positive person in the world, get impacted with a chronic pain condition and it can change you as a person. House was never the nicest guy, but being in constant and intense pain for your whole life pretty much makes a good reason for being a prick. (I have chronic pain, and knowing you can never get away from it can really change your mindset, and not for the better. Why be nice when I hurt? Why bother with people, it takes too much energy, energy I need to get through the rest of this day, etc.)

I know people who have mobility issues. Yes, they're capable of walking with assistance. But it's very difficult for them. It's made even more difficult when we can't find a parking space close to whatever building we need to enter. I'm on House's side. Winter lasts only three months out of the year. So, there goes Whitner's argument. Not only that, but House is at a greater risk when it comes to losing traction. Also, has Whitner ever heard of wheelchair flags?! I think that would solve the visibility issue. Whitner doesn't have much of a case, far as I'm concerned. She doesn't need the space that's closest to the door. House does.
