Jace's isn't being short sighted, he's thinking long term. Giving away dragons to random low-born with Tagarian blood is a huge risk, they're bastards that have a claim to the throne. He's worried they might try to overthrow him after Rhaenyra dies. Sure they're loyal to Rhaenyra now, but Jace is also a bastard and doesn't look Targarian, it's already opened him up challenges to his claim. Some of the other lords might plot to overthrow him and back their own bastard, one that looks more Targarian and has a bigger dragon. Jace has a dragon, but it's smaller than the dragons they just gave away, so he'd have a very hard time fighting back.

He wouldn't let anyone ride him while his rider is alive that's how all dragons bond are, so for him to basically go claim a human himself says Laenor is dead. I think Jace is actually the opposite of short-sighted. Petulant, for sure, but he has a point. If they win the war and Vhagar is dead, Hugh has the largest dragon in the world. After Rhaenyra dies, what’s to stop him from pressing a claim to the throne? If a bastard son of Rhaenyra has a claim, why not a bastard son of Saera (Hugh’s mother)? It’s not like they vetted any of the people they gave dragons to. If Rhaenyra wins the throne, there would be a succession crisis after her death. And Jace knows he’s not going to win that war against dragons like Vermithor or Silverwing. Also, my theory is that Mysaria is playing Rhaenyra like a fiddle. Not sure what her goal is, but I don’t trust her even a little bit.

I ditto other commenters. 1. Girls kissing is awesome. Zero issues. When a woman confides in you that she was r*ped by her dad and carved open to remove the incest baby and can now never have kids, it's a weird time to go in for a smooch. 2. Jace is petulant. 100%. Petulant, but smart. He knows that he will never rule because he's a bastard, and they'll all die trying to prove that he isn't. If Rhaenyra was smart she would have given Jace and Jeoffrey the Leanor fake-death service and let them live in peace in Pentos with their faux dad and named her heirs her and Daemon's kids. While the bastard army is dope, she is signing Jace's death sentence. 3. Three dragons were tamed this episode. Vermithor by Hugh. Silverwing by Ulf. Daemon by Oscar Tully.

I think the reason why I do feel for Jace is because in the books during the Great Council to choose Vizzy T, there were b*stards that put their name up to be considered as an heir as well. So, I can see his concern especially since his Mother is currently fighting to her throne. But also... WHAT ELSE IS SHE SUPPOSED TO DO?!

@unc54 Honestly, nobles would be harder to fight a claim. Say it's a Lannister who claims a dragon. He now has that whole Weserland area ready to defend his claim. Compare to Hugh and Ulf who has the guys at the pub to defend their claim. Also, it seems like Dragon has a fated partner until that person dies. Hence why Seamoke went to find his. The older ones are just used to people coming to them to claim. Which is why there are so many "unclaimed" probably waiting for that person that they never bonded with to die.

@@blerdywifey The nobility understands the importance of oaths. That's kind of a huge point with the Riverlands storyline. Also, Jace wants her to only select people that they know they can trust hence why he brings up Steffon Darklyn's loyalty.
