The throne was designed specifically to be sharp. I think the idea was that whoever sat on the throne wouldn't be able to relax. If you relaxed in it, or were angry or couldn't control your emotions, you risked cutting yourself. So only those who were calm and collected should sit in it.

Did you watch from 4:34 ? They can't read fast, subtitles would be disasterous. It would 1000% hurt their comprehension if they were struggling to read the entire runtime and not focusing on the visuals and conveyed information.

There's no proof Daemon actually said that. Otto is a snake and he's only interested in separating Daemon from Viscerys and advancing his own blood to the throne.

I know that he pronounced a couple of names, just a little bit off, but big props to BJ for staying on top of the names, right out of the gate from episode 1. HoTD has a lot of new people, with odd names, that all sound kind of similar, but BJ was locked in, and brought his A game. Well done!

Daemon vastly improved the city guards armor, weaponary and training while he was their commander. After that they became known as the Goldcloaks" on account of the golden cloaks he adorned them with. He used them to punish criminals before the tourney. Aemma would have died either way since the babe was in breach. Viserys´ choice was only to let them both die oder save the babe. We haven´t seen Daemon say "Heir for a day" only Otto alleging it to the king in front of the whole counsel. It is made clear that there is some kind of animosity going on between Daemon and Otto. Always ask yourself when Otto says something about Daemon what motives he could have for that action. Or any of his actions really. What does he accomplish for himself and his family by creating a situation in which Viserys replaces Daemon with Rhaenyra. We have already seen that Otto is plotting something with sending his daughter, Alicent, to the kings bedroom in her mother´s dress right after Aemma´s death. We also heard what Daemon´s opinion of Otto is. It might be good to remember his words. Rhaenys, the Queen who never was, is Viserys cousin. Jaehaerys had 2 sons, both died. Rhaenys is the child of the older (!) son and would have been 1st in line to become King/Queen. But since she is a woman the coucil chose Viserys, who was 2nd in line since he is the child of the younger son. Daemon, a male, was Viserys heir for 10 years before the happenings of this episode. Viserys replaced him with Rhaenyra because Otto alleged Daemon said "Heir for a day". There was no succession crises at all when the episode starts since Viserys had Daemon as male heir. Traditionally Daemon would have been considered first in line for king til Viserys has a son in the eyes of the realm. Viserys is of course keenly aware that the realm don´t want a Queen. That is the only reason he is King at all. Yet he follows Otto´s "guidance" to name her heir. Do you think Viserys action made the House of the Dragon stronger or weaker? Also Caraxes is Daemon´s dragon. It is bonded to him. He hasn´t taken anything away which wasn´t his.

Yeah they explain this more clearly in episode 4 - Rhaenys is the only child of Jaehaerys’s older son Aemon, while Viserys is the son of Jaehaerys’s second son, Baelon. He named the baby after his father.

Not only did they used to use maggots medicinally like that, but they have found in modern times that maggots are a very good treatment for eating the dead tissue with severe burns and other conditions. So while this was fairly realistic, I think it was also symbolism for his counselors who are also feeding off of the king metaphorically.

This was actually better than I was expecting it to be. I was a little disappointed when the same creative team didn't return for this but was really pleased with the result. Loved Matt Smith since I first watched his run of Dr Who. Milly Alcock (the new Supergirl for the DCU) ,Olivia Cooke , Eve Best all turned in great performances but hands down Paddy Considine steals the show. His performance is epic.

I listened to the audiobook of Fire & Blood after watching this series. The book starts hundreds of years before the first episode of House of the Dragon. The audiobook is 26 hours, this season starts at hour 13. I thought the rest of the book was going to be what this season was based on. Y’all, this whole first season was only 2 hours of the book with 11 hours left. The entire book was so good.

Maggots are still used today to get rid of dead flesh as they will only eat dead flesh & are really effective at stopping the spread of an infection when a person has an antibiotic resistant infection. Much like GOT, you're going to see all of the characters evolve and various events unfold in unpredictable ways. As a series, it's a true spiritual successor to the original GOT. Sadly, it may be a couple years between seasons, with season two scheduled to drop in June. It's a great series and I think most GOT fans are praying that HBO/MAX does not abruptly end the series by cramming the final resolutions to all of the story arcs into the final three episodes. I sincerely hope they stay in it for the long haul because GOT fans deserve it after the way they ended that series. Great reaction as usual Asia and BJ!

Yeah, the baby died, too. It's subtle, but you can hear him choking while the Maester was holding him. That's why he was looking so concerned. And you guys were talking to each other, so I think you glanced away when they showed the baby wrapped up like the mother on the funeral pyre.

Okay, ask yourself one thing: Did Daemon *look* like he was celebrating? This isn't a spoiler, because we never get a clear answer either way, but just look at his face. Everyone else was partying, but did he look like he was partying with them?

Here's the current crop of Targaryens (and other members of the blood of Old Valyria) in this show: -King Jaehaerys I (seen briefly in the little setup scene at the beginning). A very good king who reigned for a very, very long time (50-something years) and who did a lot of good for the kingdom. Except fathering way too many children. Thirteen, in fact. And with the way things go in days with no modern medicine, many of them died before their father, though enough of them lived into adulthood to have many, many grandchildren for Jaehaerys. So many that there wasn't a clear heir, hence the Great Council of 101 AC when they chose Viserys, the son of the second child to reach adulthood, Prince Baelon the Brave. -King Viserys I -Queen Aemma (RIP), who was actually only half Targaryen. Her father was an Arryn of the Vale. -Princess Rhaenyra -Prince Daemon, Viserys' little brother and Rhaenyra's uncle -Princess Rhaenys, the Queen That Never Was. Viserys' cousin, eldest granddaughter of Old King Jaehaerys I through his first child to survive into adulthood, Aemon. But the lords of the realm decided that no woman should be allowed to inherit, and so they chose Viserys, despite Rhaenys coming from the elder son's line. -Corlys Velaryon. Rhaenys' husband and a member of another house from Old Valyria, though they are not dragonriders like the Targaryens. (Except some of the ones with Targaryen blood.) That was the dude sitting next to Rhaenys and who raised an eyebrow at the mess during the tourney. -Laenor Velaryon, Corlys and Rhaenys' son. -Laena Velaryon, Corlys and Rhaenys' daughter. The pretty little girl with the mass of white curls watching the tournament and holding onto her brother's arm. Of course, there will be many, many more in the future, but these are all you need to know for now.

Nahhh, Rhaenys isn't hateful. She's blunt. And she's spitting facts at Rhaenyra. The men of the realm would burn the entire continent to the ground before they'd allow a woman to rule if they had any choice in the matter. I mean, watch them at the Small Council table. They barely let her make any suggestions, and when she starts making too much sense, they shuffle her off to look at pretty knights and pick one she likes.

Another comment i wanted to add is that there's another Game of Thrones spin-off currently being filmed! It's called " Game of Thrones: A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms- Tales of Dunk and Egg." It's taking place roughly 700 years before GOT, and it's about a Knight and his Squire's adventures. HOT- D is 172 years before GOT. SO each spinoff is being filmed every other year! So one year, we'll get House of The Dragon,and the following year, we'll get" Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." 😀😀 I Can't wait!!🎉🎉🎉

Honestly, rather than being an exec producer on all these prequels shows, I'd much prefer for GRRM to _FINISH THE DAMN SERIES HE STARTED_ because it has been *13* yrs since the last book came out. That's almost twice as long as the longest previous gap between book releases, which was 6 years between Book 4 and Book 5. He spent most of 2010 setting things up for the GOT tv series with Weiss and Benioff, and then he turned around and started writing "novellas" about the Targaryens pre-GOT. (I put novella in quotes because at least 2 of them are right around 60,000 words, and that means they are NOT novellas. Novellas are between 17,500 and 40,000 words. Novels are 40,000 words or longer. So he has written at least 2 prequel novels instead of finishing the novel we have waited 11 years for.)

@Skye_Writer I agree, he needs to finish the books, it's not fair to the avid book fans. 😕. I haven't read the books, but the TV show is good enough for me☺️☺️
