I love how the tournament celebrating the baby's birth is an analogy for the delivery. It starts nice and dignified, but becomes more messy and underhanded as time goes on, culminating in a death i.e. some guy's skull gets caved in around the same time the baby and mother die.

I think it was allowed in the rules...to do that, Daemon had to bend a lot toward floor but still stay on his horse and it is a really diffcult thing to do with such a heavy armor like his. So it is a really tricky move to realize, at the risk of the rider and I think that's why it is allowed because there is a few chance it work. Of course, this is for regular joust...with rider that arn't used to ride dragon instead of horses :D :D :D

Compared to the two jousts from "GOT"(Hugh vs Gregor and Gregor vs Loras), yeah, it's way better. Wish the actual tournament in GOT had all the colourful characters that they did in the book(early showing of Beric and Thoros, etc;)

I know accidents happened in jousts and people died but...this was downright murder. Jousting was supposed to be a sport that trained the young aristocracy for war. There were rules. The guy who tripped the horse would be disqualified and a young aristocrat gets murdered with an axe an no one cares? His family is fine with that?

The guy who tripped the horse is none other than the brother of the ruling king, a king that is weak with a brother that is known for his hot temper. There is no way they would disqualify the king's brother or sentence him when the last night he was chopping limbs of criminals without trial. As for the noble that got murdered, there's a chance that's not a nobleman but a knight at the service of a house, in any case here in westeros if you sign up for a tournament (Or a trial by combay) you are at risk of dying and everyone accepts that (Prince Baelor Targaryen, heir of the Throne was killed in a tournament/In GOT Bronn a sellsword kills a noble in Tyrions trial by combat)

This set the bar high for all the jousting tournaments in the upcoming Knight of the Seven Kingdoms show. The Trial By Seven at Ashford Meadow needs to be even more epic and graphic (esp. when a certain character removes their helmet and everyone sees what happens when you take a few too many mace blows to the head).

Pretty cool but sad to see the jousting tournament at the height of the kingdom in a stone stadium vs in GOT where the jousting tournaments are in a rickety wooden stand and the attention to quality and standards are no longer there.

It's not really a fair judgement as GOT had only one jousting tournament and it was in the first season, when the budget was much, much smaller. A lot of the cooler battles and events in the books were cut from GOT anyway, even after the budget rose.

@@kerenacosta6946 The point of showing this was that in HOTD the kingdom was at the height of the Targaryen power. So now we see the kingdom was actually in its decline in GOT. All of the grand structures were not rebuilt after the civil war that takes place in HOTD. Take the dragon pit for example. When they all meet in GOT the dragon pit is in ruins. @@MichaelHayesagent yeah, but the red keep was barely even scratched in GOT, even in later seasons, and in HotD we actually get to See It Properly as to just how grand and big it was. The red keep, other than the decor choices, would have been the same throughout the eras, through Targaryen decline and Baratheon/Lannister power.

Rewatching the show now, I'm totally unsure of whats going to happen to Harrold Westerling(Graham McTavish), as he's dead before the Dance in the book. Okay, say what you will about the Hightowers, but its sort of awesome that Gwayne was able to take and strike a first blow to Daemon and stay ahorse, immediately grabbing a new lance and charging back in the fray(and Daemon had to cheat to unhorse him on the second pass).

0:53 MISTAKE! You see the crown on neck of the stag on the Baratheon sigil. It isn't supposed to be there. The stag only received the crown once Robert Baratheon overthrew the Targaryen dynasty and became king, thus House Baratheon became the royal house. Until then the Baratheon sigil was just a black stag on golden field - without the crown.

If this was real life jousting, absolutely not (and he’d likely have been hit dead center by his opponent’s lance when he tried, and/or gotten his arm broken from his lance being wrenched backwards). But since this is a fantasy universe, they obviously have different rules for their sports (and he needs to be introduced as a bad guy anyway lol)

A good scene but smacking a Lance on a horses front legs will not stop at nor will it trip it the lance is simply not stronger than the horses leg not only that but you would actually knock yourself clear off your horse the horse weighs 2000 pounds the most that you would weigh in your armor is probably 240 so black fire would in fact fall flat off his horse more than likely breaking his neck from that stupid stunt he is not a superhuman and he is not using a metal lance that would actually be capable of simply breaking the horses legs

Many wrong things in this scene, starting by stacking elements of medieval armor from 1000 to 1400 while vanilla GOT was more in an original identity creation (lannister's companies, baratheon's army, Vale knights, Bolton reapers ...). I don't understand at all the art direction in this show. It seems they want to pile some elements of classic history with high fantasy items likes the suits of Daemon.

Why, tourney helmets were very often full of ornaments that looked pretty, but were impractical in battle. And battle armor was different than a tourney armor in many other aspects.

Well I read an article about the fact he has only one helmet and he can remove wings of it. It is quiet logical, in medieval time, full armor were really expensive, just as helmet, and knights had often just one helmet where they could add some ornaments for tourner or parads...
