+2007 Mikey Way Well, the "original" by The Animals is just an adaptation of an old folk song. Similar to how Misirlou by Dick Dale is just an adaptation of an old Eastern folk song. "House of the Rising Sun" has been around for at least a century with the oldest known recording being form 1919. It was just The Animals' version that became popular.

sorry mate but house of the rising sun is a public domain song. ANYONE can play it, and make money out of it. it just happens that the animals wrote the biggest commercially successful version of the song.
