House tour｜Creator's house｜Natural materials｜Renovation｜Old house｜Arata Endo｜Japanese room tour

This house was designed about 80 years ago as a vacation home by Arata Endo, a favorite disciple of world-famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Hideaki Masago, an artist and native flutist, and his wife Michiyo Masago, a clothing designer, have lived in the house for the past 30 years. During this time, they have rediscovered the architectural charm of the house as it was originally built, and have made it their own place to live and work. A few years ago, they undertook a full-scale renovation of the house with the help of specialists, in order to use it as an art salon open to the community.
The background music this time was provided by Mr.Masago’s indie label AWA. Thank you,very much, Mr. Masago!

遠藤新さんの建築は西洋の建築を取り入れながら、日本古来の美意識をとても上手く調和させていますね。兵庫の甲子園会館も見事に重厚で品格高く美しい。こちらのお宅は、遠藤さんの建築を今風に改築して活かしておられる。さすが芸術家ご夫妻だと感心いたします。何度見ても、惚れ惚れします。 私の母の習い事の師匠のお宅も、手入れの行き届いた苔むした庭園、手水鉢、見事な欄間、夏の御簾戸、長年磨き上げられた床板など、日本家屋本来の美を子ども心にも感じたものでした。
