My six month old mini is pretty good about letting me know when she needs to go. Sometimes she mouths my hand when it’s time for #2. She got fixed a few days ago though and has definitely taken a few steps back.

I have watched several of your videos and have to say I really appreciate how you have such a concrete understanding of the breed. I have had 3 dachshunds, while they have all been different individuals, they still show at lot of the same traits you talk about. Thank you for making these videos!

Helpful video. My pup is 4 months old. She has no problem going potty on her bed and then going to sleep on it. She will often wee right after coming in from outside (even though she went outside as well). No carpet and no blanket is safe in our house at the moment. Some days I think she has gotten it and others it feels like we are starting from the beginning again 😭😭😭

House breaking my first doxie WAS tough...but when I got a second one as a friend for my first one because I had to work...house breaking was a breeze...she took her cues from number one and it only took at most about a month...and she was good to go.

My doxie Bambi was already puppy pad trained when we got her, so I just had to train her to go outside. She does pretty well with it, I would say 75 percent of the time she goes outside. She is only 5 months old so she’s still learning. Love this video and Stella.

This is our 4th dachshund and the hardest one to train. I think a strict schedule would work for him. Thanks for the info. Great video!

We lost our Doxie on 8/4/21, He was 11 years old and it was so sudden, there is not a day that goes by that I still don't tear up a bit 6 weeks later. He was very easy to house train and we did not have an accident in at least 10 years, he will always be in our hearts. To fill a large void in our home we are picking up an 8 week old Doxie this week. Hopefully, he will be as easy to train, If not he will still be loved and cared for.

Oh my I can relate so much to this! I live in an apartment and my pup is actually surprisingly easy to potty train even from day one (I use pee tray.) She have accidents whenever she's upset with me or other family members over such ridiculous things 😂 (not enough belly rubs, not giving her enough attention.... she's such an attention seeker!! hahaha) one time she saw my mum getting ready to leave the apartment, she was VERY upset because it was supposed to be her play time with my mum! (our family take turns with her play times) so she decided to keep my mum busy and distracted from leaving her.... by poo-ing in my mum's bedroom 😂😂😂 once my mum's done cleaning her poo, she made a weird noise which apparently was her laugh (yes I didn't know they can actually laugh!) as she walked back into her crate 😂

I would clean the poop with her face, every time, and make her sit in a different room without any attention or toys for 2hrs. That will take the laugh out of her hand stop her from wanting to repeat that unacceptable behaviour. @@itzelsuarez4400

thank you for this video! I just got my doxie (3.5 mths old) and potty training has been so hard! We leave in an apartment and potty train on pee pads. He understands to pee/poo in the toilet but doesn't understand that it should be on a particular spot. Hope you share more tips on this next! :)

I learned 15 years ago through loving and living with my precious Tallulah Whiskey that negative reinforcement has nothing but negative results on a Dachshund! The breed is very sensitive to harsh measures. And they WILL hold a grudge 😉😂. ~Lesa on my husband's account

My doxies were easy. They had a dog play pen and come and go when they want except at night. We are blessed with a large fenced backyard so they go out and run a lot. Then they sleep eat snd out for play snd potties. We have doxies and chichi’s. They are all easy to train.

Thank you for your video. I can't believe people punish their pups, 'rubbing their nose in their mistakes' that's just cruel and insane. You wouldn't do that to your babies, so why would you do that to your pups? Crazy people 🤦🏻‍♂️

I don’t think it’s possible to FULLY potty train a weenie due to how stubborn they’re. 😂 Mine is “potty trained”, but will have mischievous “accidents” whenever he feels likes it. Especially when it is raining. I’ve learned that it’s just part of owning a dachshund.

Lol, you summed it up perfectly. I'm learning my little girl is a priss and doesn't like getting her little paws wet on the grass after the rain. Still such a loveable breed.

Yes! Our ween is almost 8. He’s trained…but if he can’t get anyone to respond to him, he will just go in the house. He doesn’t go to the door or “alert” us that he needs to go potty. But his behavior gets very “attention seeking”. He can always get mama’s attention (me) but the dad and the kids in the house think he should only go outside once per day 🤦🏼‍♀️. They are never vigilant about it. He also can’t be trusted out of his crate at night because he WILL go potty around 5 am.

I know this isn’t apart of the video but I love your shirt where you get it? Lol 😂 also I did very similar training for my doxie as well he’s almost 6 months now! I do the puppy pads Bevause I live in a apartment and I live in Buffalo it’s so cold here too like Canada but someday when we have a house even he will be older like 1 by then but I want to push him to go outside more even it will be harder but doesn’t hurt to try! Awesome video!! 😊

How do you train them to not bark so much? I’m planning on adopting a Doxie and curious to know if you have any tips that might help
@janetvanantwerp8899
@janetvanantwerp8899 3 жыл бұрын
Throw a shaker can…like a taped up aluminum beverage can with a few coins in it….at their feet and yell “no bark!”….then reward them with pets or praise when they stop barking after the startle. Supposed to learn “no bark” command eventually without need for can. A sonic trainer can be used the same way. Either one you use must be used diligently and also letting them bark once or twice should be allowed if they are doing it because they are protecting the home. The sonic trainer works well for my dogs. They stop barking as soon as they see it in my hand. But some dogs don’t respond as well to it. I found it easier than a shaker can.

In all honesty, I am wondering how much of the potty training dificulties are due to the training of the pups mothers. My mini girl is fanatical about keeping her bed clean, and when she had a litter of puppies, she taught them all to go outside their crate. Now, even a 6 weeks old, I can bring them inside after their dinner, take them all outside to go potty just before I go to bed, and again in the middle if the night, and their bed is dry in the morning still. This is 6 week old puppies who are still with their mother. But my boy, who I bought from a breeder who I know did not let them out to go potty at night (because she has so many dogs and it would take forever) is terrible at pooping and peeing everywhere through the house. So I do think the puppies mother AND the breeder play a huge role in how difficult it is to potty train your puppy once he comes home to you.

Is it DOCK-SUND or DASH-HOUND? Both correct?
@HollyObee
@HollyObee 3 жыл бұрын
Technically the proper pronunciation is dock-sund but the Americanized version is dachshund and I catch myself saying it like that a lot 😂
@janetvanantwerp8899
@janetvanantwerp8899 3 жыл бұрын
Seems it is pronounced different in different areas of the country. Here in Illinois, I had never heard dash-hound until someone asked me if that was what my dogs were and it kind of took me back, because I hadn’t heard that pronunciation. In England they often call them sausage dogs.

I 100% believe that punishing your dog for going inside makes things worse not better. My puppy was yelled at and put in time out after pooing in the house. Later that night he wouldn't wee or poor outside. Literally right after he wouldn't go outside, he weed in our bed

I'm sorry but serious question: how on earth did you have the time to take her out every 30 mins if you had a full time job and have to be AWAY for 8-10 hours of the day??? Unless you live and mom and dads house and all your needs are being met already?! So you can have all the time in the world to take care of a puppy and not have to pay the bills??
