Season 5 Episode 24 "Both Sides Now"
House and the team are intrigued by Scott (Ashton Holmes), a man who has undergone a corpus callosotomy procedure to treat epilepsy. Due to this, both sides of his brain are at war for dominance over the body resulting in him having Alien Hand Syndrome where he can't control his left arm. At the same time Cuddy and House try to deal with their relationship after spending the night at his apartment. The next day, House tells Wilson that he has stopped taking drugs and had sex with Cuddy, to which Wilson responds "Wow". But he also tells him that Cuddy may be repressing her feelings for him, and is trying to avoid him. Finally House realizes that his night with Cuddy and her helping him to stop his addiction to Vicodin was all an elaborate hallucination. With his hallucinations spiraling out of control, House is forced to go into a mental health facility after becoming unable to tell fantasy from reality.

Isn't that what happened to his leg? The doctors didn't believe him and it was too late when house convinced them he had a blood clot. Same reason you don't restrain people who are having seizures, because they can seriously injure themselves. Mostly your skin and eyes becoming yellow and terrible itching all over the body are the symptomps.. Altough i had a liver transplant two months ago and now im fine.. The worst part is probably the itching and since i was in hospital for 7 months waiting for the new liver they gave me every possible treatment for itching but nothing helped.. Turns out the reason you become yellow when you have liver failure is because the body is getting rid of innecesary junk through the sweat glands in the skin (and since the liver is failing it cant filter properly and turn things into sweat so the yellow stuff comes out instead of sweat.. Since the yellow stuff is a lot more dense than sweat it gets stuck under the top most part of skin and itches like crazy..sorry if this is innacurate.. Thats just how my doctors explained it to me.. Also im only 14 so i shouldnt be caring about this crap anyway..

The screen test with the words was actually done in real life and is accurate! A psychologist called Sperry had the corpus callosum of epilepsy patients severed in an effort to do reduce seizures. While the seizures stopped - it did lead to some strange behaviour. Such as being able to repeat a word if flashed in one visual field - but only being able to draw the object that the word described when flashed in front of the other visual field. Fascinating study

Apparently, the reason thus happens is that the right side of the brain has less to do with language and thus that part of the brain literally cannot think In language anymore or communicate once the two halves are separated. It's a bit more complex than that, but it basically means you, who were both halves working together, suddenly become two distinct but connected entities. One with control over the language centers and one that doesn't. It's a really creepy thought, honestly.

The different hemispheres of your brain think about things in different manners. Even if it doesn't know it's the root cause, it could very well know that it's A problem. Memory is also region locked, so it's entirely possible that only one of his brains knows that propelyne glycol poisoning is an issue.

fyukfy I think the parts are in Some ways still connected so bc the functions are all over the place so Some parts are still of acces to each other and shared between them. Functions like sight, smell and lots of other things are shared between the brains. Also most patients have no trouble with memory or movement between left or right so the sides are still in contact.

From what I understand from seeing other examples of cases similar to this, both sides of the brain receive the exact same information from their environment, but each half processes that info differently and in cases like this ... can reach completely different conclusions, despite both sides receiving the same info. Which sometimes also means one half can pick up on something the other half misses completely. So considering all that, in the context of this episode, I think throughout the period of continual use of the deodorant, right side brain made the connection between feeling ill and the use of the deodorant while the left side brain didn't. And since the right side brain is mute and "cut off" from the left side (meaning it can't share its data with its other half), that observation couldn't be acted upon.

2:34 I love how he puts that "You owe your insight to the mute loser" 😂🤣 The mute "loser" I think he's referring to is the subconscious. A wonder like no other, and without that, we would be well and truly boned 😅 The subconscious is the objective observer. I have a little theory about that... The gut microbiome affects so much about us, from mood to energy levels. And you know that 'gut instinct' we all talk about. Well I believe that the gut sends signals to the more clever subconscious and that relays the information to the conscious, saying "don't do that, it's too dangerous", or "look that way to spot danger". Super clever 😊

Whats happening in the first scene is a really interesting phenomenon knows as ‘blind sight’. Your brain receives visual information from the primary occipital pathway straight to V1, the primary visual cortex. But if V1 is damaged, there are still other smaller, less important pathways that can receive visual information and send it to V2, V3, V4 and V5. What is so crazy is that V1 is also involved in conscious sight so while someone might think he isn’t seeing anything, he actually is seeing something (although often impaired). Thats why while he is seeing the candle, he doesn’t know it, but he can draw it unconsciously when asked to. The brain may over time restructure itself to become better at this which is knows an plasticity, the brains ability to restructure itself according to its environmental needs.
